"She is proof
that you can
walk through hell
and still be an angel."

SERENITY WALKED TOWARDS THE WINDOW prepared to fight any intruder regardless of their identity, but as she reached the open window she came to face with no one. She placed her palms on the windowsill, clutching it tightly, and leaned over the window to look at the road below.
Serenity had lost track of the time during the hectic day, but as she looked at the road and saw not even one soul in the dark night, she figured it must be a few hours past midnight.
Taking a deep breath in through her nose, she prepared herself for the stupid decision she was going to make, and called out in the night sky: "Whoever you are, show yourself. I already know you are there, and it would be in the best of both our interests for you to come out."
Although seemingly brave and courageous on the outside, Serenity was secretly wishing that the person won't come out of hiding. She was not really keen on fighting anybody after all. But it seemed like asking for even one minute of peace on Earth was asking for a lot, and she saw the fluttering of curtains as coldness draped over her.
She turned away from the window to face her hotel room, and was not surprised to see two vampires sitting on her bed- one with a very familiar face.
"Felix. What are you doing here and who is that with you?" Serenity asked the familiar man whilst pointing towards the other man who sat beside him.
"Oh my dear, is that any way of welcoming a guest?" Felix retorted back, dodging from answering her questions.
"That is precisely the way of welcoming unwanted guests." Her sarcastic reply had the two men chuckling in no time.
"I like you." Spoke the other man as if approving of her. "I'm Demetri, and we're here to take you back to the kings."
"I'm pretty sure it was one of the kings, Marcus I think, who told me to head back to my hotel." Serenity spoke out, crossing her arms over chest and looking between the two vampires trying to figure out their motive.
"Well yes, but that was before you found out about... our secret."
Serenity let out a gasp at Demetri's statement. She had been extremely careful-or so she had though until now- but how had someone managed to see her? Albeit she was thrown off guard by this new revelation, she couldn't let the two men see her internal turmoil, so she put on a neutral face. If one of the three kings had found out that she knew they were vampires, the only reason they could be calling her back was to kill her, to keep their secret safe. And so she spoke out. "Well I have no plans on going with you willingly. I won't hesitate to fight you if it comes down to that."
The two vampires bellowed at her statement as if they couldn't believe what she had said. While Demetri rolled over on the mattress of the bed, clutching his stomach laughing, Felix regained his composure and looked at the woman. "You must be more stupid than I thought if you are willing to fight us, even after you know what we are."
Serenity let a victorious smirk come upon her face as she saw the two vampires play right into her hands. She had the benefit of knowledge in this situation, knowing exactly what they are. On the other hand, Felix and Demetri had no idea of her identity and mistakenly assumed her to be a human.
"If it's so easy for you to defeat me then come on! What's holding you back?" Serenity challenged both men who looked furious at her audacity.
Completely forgetting about Marcus' orders of not harming the woman, Felix stood up- rage burning in his eyes due to being challenged by a mere mortal. However, Demetri was quick to stand up and pushed the other man on the bed quickly, seeming as if wanting to diffuse the ever growing tension in the room, but instead he looked over to Felix and said: "Let me, brother."
In a blink of her eye, Serenity found Demetri standing a few feet away from her. Instantly, she unfolded her hands and took the posture of a fighter, with one hand in front of her face and the other shielding her stomach. The vampire found himself copying her stance and the two started circling each other, with relentless eye contact waiting to see who would attack first.
To the surprise of both elite guard members, it was Serenity who released the first hit as she curled her hand into a fist and aimed for the front of Demetri's nose. Her fist hit the bridge of his nose and he reeled back from the sudden impact. Demetri was thrown off guard by the strength of the punch- he had never expected a human to hit so hard.
"You... little.." Demetri took a lurching step towards Serenity with each of his words, and on the third step, he swung: "bitch!" The blow felt too sluggish, and Demetri knew it the second he launched it- it was because of the anger that was fuelling him. The sly, smirking angel ducked under his hand. Before Demetri could even register the dodge, another body shot from Serenity found its way on his back. She went in for another shot, but was pushed by the shoulders by Demetri. Seeing Serenity scoot back so far against the weight of his hands gave him a second wind, and he covered the distance between them quickly. He grabbed a hold of her stumbling figure by one of his hands, while using the other to punch her in the stomach. A full three times.
Serenity let out a painful protest but found a rancid arm covering her mouth, not allowing her pained grunts to be let out. Without giving it a second thought, she chomped down on the edge of his hand and Demetri stepped back choking and sputtering- clearly not having expected her to bite his palm. Serenity stood over him, rubbing her jaw. "That is called vegan power, my friend. Clearly something you don't know about."
Taking advantage of his uncertainty, Serenity hit him again and he fell down on his back. Grabbing Demetri's head she pulled him off the ground until the vampire found himself on the tip of his toes with her fingernails dragging onto his scalp. She reeled back her free hand, and brought it down again to slam onto his ribs, as the receiving man found himself wincing at the pain that rippled across his chest.
Moving quickly, Serenity backed Demetri up to the wall and moved her hand down from his head to his throat, securing him in place. "Now tell me, why are you really here."
Not even slightly phased by his current position, Demetri barked out: "I am not answerable to you. You cannot even kill me."
Bringing her mouth closer to his ears, Serenity whispered. "And you cannot kill me. I am immortal."
To say the two vampires were shocked by this sudden disclosure would be a massive understatement, and Demetri spluttered out. "B-but how? You're not a vampire." The question was very genuine because neither of the two men in the room knew what she was, but there was not a doubt in any of their minds that she was immortal. The fact that she had Demetri backed up into a corner in a chokehold was enough proof that she was not a human.
"There exists more immortal creatures than just vampires." Serenity simply let out, not wanting them to know her identity at this point in time.
Understanding that this was the end of the conversation-and the fight- Demetri sighed in defeat and raised both of his hands above his head. "We don't know why but Master Marcus set us to follow you and make sure no harm came upon you."
Serenity was lost in her thoughts, not knowing what it was she had done for Marcus to send two of his elite guard members behind her. She let go of the man's throat and took a step back, still in deep thought- which was broken when Felix started clapping.
"Wow that was immensely hot. I don't think I've ever seen Demetri look so helpless and backed up into a corner by anyone, let alone such a gorgeous woman. I think I might be falling in love." Felix raised a hand to his heart, playing out his dramatic monologue. While Serenity let out a sincere laugh, Demetri scoffed and crossed his hands over his chest.
"I mean.. I'm more than willing to give you a repeat show." Serenity spoke to Felix with one eyebrow raised in anticipation, as she gestured for him to take Demetri's place.
"Chill woman! I was joking, I'm good right here- just sitting on this bed."
"Whatever you say." Serenity rolled her eyes at the childlike antics of the grown man. "Request me an audience with Marcus. I need to have a talk with him."
The two vampires nodded before they rapidly went out the window, heading to the museum, while Serenity took the more normal route, going down the stairs of the hotel and out the main door. On the way to the kings' place of residence, Serenity could not help but wonder if she was doing the smart thing walking headfirst into the den of vampires. As she walked to-perhaps- her doom, the letter she had penned laid forgotten on the fireplace mantel back in her hotel room.
