Enid let out a groan as a beeping
monitor heralded her entrance back to the world of the awake. She was lying on a white bed, feeling horrible. Every muscle in her body ached and she could taste tar in her mouth.

"Enid."

A soft voice drew Enid's attention to Wednesday who was sitting by Enid's bedside. She looked tired, like she hadn't slept in days. Her clothes were rumpled and her hair had one braid almost undone.

"Wednesday?" Enid breathed out, finding that even her tongue hurt to use.

"Don't talk. And don't sit up. You're hurt," Wednesday said.

"How badly," Enid asked, eyes fluttering when she recalled the truck. Her body tensed as if bracing for another impact and she winced in pain as she jarred her injuries.

"A lot of bruising. Your wolf side healed a lot of your broken bones."

That would explain the pain and soreness. Enid hoped the doctors wouldn't get too suspicious.

"How long was I out for?"

"About a week." Wednesday swallowed harshly. "What were you thinking, Enid? Why did you run into traffic?"

Enid looked at Wednesday oddly. "You were there."

"I was there?" Wednesday questioned.

Enid nodded her head slightly. "Standing on the freeway. I called out to you, but you didn't hear me. So I went to pull you to safety, and you told me goodbye before the truck came." Enid swallowed harshly at the memory.

"Enid, I wasn't there. I was at home. There was no way I would stand on a freeway like that," Wednesday said slowly.

Enid's brows furrowed up. "But-I swear I saw you there!"

Wednesday thinned her lips. "That could have been a result of your dip in the lake, Enid. Oxygen deprivation is serious business. It can lead to hallucinations."

"Oh," Enid said, disappointed in herself. How could she have been so stupid?

"I'm just happy you're alright," Wednesday sighed, reaching to touch the back of Enid's hand. Enid felt warmth at that, clinging tightly to Wednesday's hand. "Father and mother are looking to erase any trace of your records and stay at this hospital from the normies memories. We're putting you with Dr. Frankenstein for the rest of your stay. We couldn't afford to move you until you woke up yourself."

"Whose that?"

"A family doctor. You'll be in good hands. He saved me when I took an arrow to the heart to save Andrew's life."

"How is Andrew? I lost him that day at the mall."

"He's distraught. He blames himself for what happened. He said he wanted to surprise you with a special treat as an apology for the lake incident and he was running late. When he got back, the ambulance had already taken you away. I came as soon as I found out."

"What rotten luck," Enid murmured.

"Indeed," Wednesday said. "Maybe you should go home for the rest of the summer. I don't want you getting hurt anymore. Your wolf side protected you this time, but what if it won't be enough next time?"

Enid didn't want to go home to her family. She should want to, but something she couldn't put her finger on was holding her back.

Gomez and Morticia walked into the room, arm in arm. "My dear Enid, we are glad to see you awake and well!"

"You took quite a hit," Morticia said, sitting down on the bed and stroking back Enid's hair from her forehead.

"We took care of everything," Gomez assured. "And you will have the finest care at the hands of Dr. Frankenstein."

"We should go now," Wednesday, looking at the door. Gomez shut it behind him and locked it, before turning off the lights.

"Tish?" he asked and she inclined her head. She took off one of the rings on her fingers and threw it into the air in front of Enid's bed. It spun and spun before yawning open into a portal. On the other side Enid could make out a run down house. Together the Addams family rolled her hospital bed out through the portal and to the other side.

They brought her up to the front door, Gomez leaning in so the eye on the door could scan his eye. The door then swung open and a flurry of nurses with bandages on their heads came to help Enid out of the bed. They carried her into the house. Enid craned her neck, nervous. She was overwhelmed by the flurry of activity.

"Wednesday?" she called out, trying to spot her friend.

"Right behind you," came the reply and Enid relaxed a bit. That was before she saw they were putting her down on a slab, where a cart with many sharp tools on it stood nearby.

"The doctor will be with you in a minute. No guests," one of the nurses said after they had put Enid down and they slammed the door shut on Wednesday's face.

Enid gulped, eyeing her surroundings. She tried to sit up but her muscles protested against this. She really hoped the doctor only looked scary but wasn't. She lay there pondering what was going to happen. The cold of the table leeched into her skin and she shuddered.

The door knob of the room rattled and the doctor walked in, closing the door behind him. He was a short squat man with white hair slicked back and a pair of goggles hanging around his neck.

"Enid Sinclair." He pulled on a set of black gloves and stood over by her, using a flashlight to examine her.

"That's me," she said, forcing a smile to her lips.

"I'd never thought I'd see you here again," Dr. Frankenstein hummed, moving on to take her blood pressure.

"Again?" Enid frowned. "Have I been here before?"

"Yes, with Wednesday Addams when she took an arrow to the heart," he said.

Enid didn't remember being with Wednesday for that. "Oh, maybe?" she said. "I don't remember. I almost drowned in a lake so my head's a bit fuzzy from lack of oxygen."

"Lack of oxygen?" he arched a brow before shaking his head and chuckling. "No no no. Not that. You've got a nasty entity attached to you that's causing all your problems."

"Excuse me?" she blinked rapidly. What was he talking about?

"Yes, something truly nasty and dark that is aiming to kill you."

Enid blanched, feeling her body turn ice cold. "Am I cursed?" she whispered out.

"Worse than cursed," he laughed. "And I don't mean the typical Addams curse."

"What....what do you mean?" she squeaked, dreading his answer. "How do I get rid of it?"

"The only way you can get rid of it is if you die," he said, waving his hand casually, like he wasn't delivering the worst possible news to her.

Enid stayed under Dr. Frankenstein's care for three more days. He administered her some potions that made her feel right as rain. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do or chose to do about the evil that had cursed her.

Suddenly, a lot of her misfortune made sense. She was downright miserable, unable to sleep properly because she kept turning this information over and over in her head. Wednesday took one look when they came to pick Enid up and knew something was wrong.

"Enid, are you alright?" she asked and Enid tearfully broke down into tears, tugging Wednesday into a tight hug against her. They stayed like that for a long time in the back seat of the car, a privacy screen rolled up as Enid quietly sobbed into Wednesday's chest, Wednesday's arms strong and secure around Enid. In between her sobs, Enid had pieced together the truth of the matter.

"And I don't know what to do now," Enid sniffed in conclusion, her voice hoarse from her sorrows. She looked up to find Wednesday looking down at her face, black eyes glimmering with sadness. Their faces were so close their noses brushed together.

Wednesday's hand came up to brush away a stray tear falling from Enid's eye. "Enid, I promise you, we will solve this together. We will find this curse and we will end it before it can do you anymore harm." Wednesday's face drew imperceptibly closer, eyes dropping down to Enid's lips before she pulled herself back, confused by her own closeness.

"Wednesday?" Enid asked at the sudden pull back of her friend.

"I...I apologize. I must have lost a bit of my balance because of the car's movements and tilted forward," she said, a faint gray blush to her cheeks.

"I'm sorry for making this summer suck," Enid said, casting her eyes down.

"You're not. In fact, this is an intriguing challenge. I want to find out who is doing this to you, and I want to render them limb from limb," Wednesday promised darkly.

Wednesday's words made Enid feel a bit better. Made her delude herself into thinking that the two of them could stand up to something so ancient and evil.

Andrew was waiting for them back home and as soon as Enid walked through the door, he was hugging her gently. "Enid. I'm glad to see you."

"I'm glad to be back," she breathed into his shirt. He smelled like Wednesday and it made Enid's eyes prick with tears remembering her friend's solemn promise.

"How about some warm dinner?" Morticia suggested. "To celebrate Enid coming back."

The entire family was in agreement about this and they sat down to a warm meal Lurch had already prepared. The family ate and talked as normal, but Enid couldn't find it in herself to enjoy this moment. She was constantly replaying the information the doctor had told her over and over again. She wouldn't get to enjoy moments like these for much longer. Not unless they got rid of the curse on her.

The idea choked her up.

No, wait.

Enid's hands flew to her throat. She was actually choking. She coughed and jumped out of her seat. Instantly everyone's eyes were on her.

"Enid, what's wrong?" Wednesday was on her feet, by Enid's side as the wolf inside her wheezed.

"Allergies....chocolate," she breathed out.

"Quick, call for help!" Wednesday cried out, and that was the last thing Enid remembered before black spots overtook her vision.
