After taking a moment to breath in the fresh morning seabreeze, you heard the music play from the radio as a Korean voice blared from its speakers.
undonghaja! cha!
Hana... dul!... dul... dul!... ses... dul!... nes... dul!...
daseos... dul!... yeoseos... dul! ...ilgob...dul!...yeodeolb...dul-!
SMASH!!
"Okay, we're done."
You stared at the broken radio with a bewildered expression, as Steven set down his small dumbells, looking a bit dissatisfied.
"But the day still has so much potential!" He complained, as Spinel itched her head, staring down at the broken machine.
"Why'd ya have to go and punch the-"
"Garnet, what are my breakfast possibilities?" He asked, looking up to the tall gem hopefully.
"Well, you're already outside, so you'll probably go to the Big Donut." She suggested matter-of-factly.
You snorted, slighty amused. It was kind of an obvious prediction.
"Wow... That's amazing." Steven was awestruck for a moment, itching his head sheepishly as Garnet dispels her gauntlets. "Um, do you see any possible futures where you... um, come with me, (Name) and Spinel and have a great time?"
"Hmm..." Garnet states down at the starry-eyed child, while he stares back at her with pleadingly, wiggling his eyebrows a bit to sell his hint.
She then glances up her eyes on you, as you stared back at her with a brow raised, waiting for her answer. Spinel just smiled at her, bouncing on her toes.
She tweaks her visor before delivering her final verdict. "Yes."
Steven gasps in excitement. "Really?! Then let's go! Come on, Spinel!"
He runs over to you, who instinctively crouched down, letting Spinel and Steven mount your back. "Come on, Garnet! hop on the (Name)-train!"
"There's room for one more!" Spinel piped, patting your head.
"All aboard." You said humorously, with a beckoning gesture with your head, causing your two passengers to giggle.
Garnet stands for a moment, before smiling very faintly to herself and walking over, sitting behind Steven, crossing one leg over the other.
"Choo choo." With a snort, similar that of a train chuff, you stroll down the beach at a smooth, steady pace.
"So, can Pearl and Amethyst see the future, too?" Steven asked, looking up at Garnet.
"No one can see the future." Garnet states. "I can see options and trajectories. Time is like a river that splits into creeks, or pools into lakes, or careens down waterfalls." She adjusts her visor again. "I have the map, and I steer the ship."
"And... Garnet chooses which one to go down?" You asked slowly. "Choosing the most... suitable river or... something of that like?"
"Exactly." Garnet said, patting your back.
"Aye Captain." You said casually. It sounded complicated, but it did make some solace of sense to you.
"I knew you would." Garnet said, smiling the slightest bit at your words.
However, Steven and Spinel looked beyond confused with the explanation.
"I see..." Steven stated slowly.
"...I don't." Spinel replied, itching her head.
~~~~~~~~~~~
You reached the cozy bakery in little time, nudging the door open gently with your forepaw.
"So, what would happen if I said "hi" to Sadie?" Steven asked as he dismounted your back alongside Spinel.
"The most probable outcome is that Sadie will say "hi" back." Garnet responded coolly, sliding off your back and giving your shoulder a couple pats. "And say hi to (Name) and Spinel as well when she sees them."
"Hmm..." Steven ponders Garnet's prediction for a moment. "Hi, Sadie!"
"Oh, hi, Steven." Sadie replies simply. Her eyes then meet yours and she waves to you warmly. "And hey to you to, (Name) and Spinel."
Steven laughs at the outcome as you return the wave with a friendly hru, but Spinel puts her hands on her hips, looking dissatisfied with how obvious it all was.
"Alright, that one was too easy." She said, raising her brow. "Try somethin' a bit more... complicated, maybe?"
Steven thinks for a moment. "What would happen if... I said "hi" to my BFF, Lars?!"
He points to Lars, who was standing by the coffee machine. Spinel squinted slightly. "BFF?"
"Our friendship is deep, but complicated. So the outcome of this experiment is waaaay unpredictable!"
Your face fell as you looked at the orange haired teen, fighting off a sneer. Deep isn't what I'd describe this "friendship"...
"...I see a single potential future where Lars gives you a high five."
Steven gasps, looking up at Garnet with hopeful eyes. Unknown to you or the others, Garnet's gaze shifted over to you with an air of hesitation.
"...And two more potential futures where you suffer third-degree burns all over your body."
Your metaphoric stomach dropped the second you heard Garnet say this.
"Huh?" Garnet barely held back a wince as you snapped your head up to look at her incredulously. "Third degree burns? From what??"
Spinel pursed her lips in slight worry as she watched you out of the corner of her eye before leaning towards Steven and dropping her voice to a whisper, "Uh... Stevie, maybe you should be careful with—"
"A high five... from Lars!" Either not hearing Spinel's words or ignoring them entirely, Steven runs towards Lars gleefully. "Hi, Lars!"
The excitable yell startled Lars, causing him to fling the pitcher full of hot coffee up in the air and sending it hurtling towards Steven.
"NO!!"
Before you even processed it, you practically watched yourself lunge forward, shielding Steven as pitcher smashes over your face, drenching it in the scorching liquid.
Sadie gasps in alarm as Spinel winced, knowing how hot coffee can be. Steven looked shocked at your intervention while Garnet had a barely visible frown on her face.
"Criminy! Are you okay?!" Lars asked with surprising amounts of concern. "That coffee was really hot!"
"It's... fine." You pushed out as you shook the liquid out of your bangs. Indeed it did burn a little bit, but thankfully the brief rush of adrenaline managed to numb most of it. "(Name) likes her coffee hot."
"Heh... nice one..." Spinel chuckled in a sheepish manner.
"(Name) makes good coffee." Garnet comments, walking up to wipe your face off with some napkins she got. "I drink it for breakfast."
After his initial shock, Steven lets out a nervous chuckle. "Funny."
