The darkness in his eyes faded away leaving nothing but anguish. Silence blanketed the room, interrupted only by the sound of our breathing.

"It seems as though all I've been saying to you are apologies. But, they're all true and I swear I will never hurt you, Rain."

Levi took a shaky breath before hesitantly reaching out and grabbing my hand. I stiffened but began to relax as he rubbed small circles over my knuckles with his thumb.

"I'm not mad at you, little moon. I could never be. It just makes me upset that I was unable to protect you again and I broke my promise that I would never hurt you."

He dropped my hand from his and let out a loud groan. Levi began pacing back and forth, clenching his fists at his side until his knuckles turned white.

"I fucking left you. I should've never left your side. If I hadn't been so fucking ignorant you wouldn't have gotten hurt and I wouldn't have had to go look for you only to find you in a fucking cell. This is all my fault and I don't know how many times I'll have to say this to get you to forgive me but I'm sorry. I'm sorry for being such a bad mate."

My eyes followed his every movement as he paced. I decided I couldn't stand it any more and I slowly got up from the couch and walked over to him. I shyly wrapped my arms around his torso and pressed my forehead against his spine. He stopped moving and I could feel his every breath. I could faintly hear the thudding of his heart increase and it made me want to smile, knowing I had such an effect on him.

His hands went up to intertwine with mine as he unwrapped my arms and turned around before hugging me to his chest. Levi was more than a head taller than me yet our bodies fit together perfectly.

"Y-you're not a bad mate," I stammered, burying my face further into his chest. "It wasn't your fault I got locked in a cell. There's nothing to forgive."

He sighed and lightly shook his head, "I swear I'll punish whoever did this to you, Rain."

He pushed me away from him before cupping my cheeks between his hands and tilting my face so I was looking at him. His hard gaze softened as he looked at me and I plastered what I thought was a smile onto my face, hoping he wouldn't be able to see past the thin glass holding me together.

"Are you hungry?" he asked, the warmth fading from his eyes as he frowned at me.

The smile fell from my lips and I stepped away from him. Levi's hands fell from my face as I stared at the ground, hurt filling my chest at how upset he looked when he peered at me.

"No, it's okay. I don't want to be a bother," I whispered.

"Hey, what's wrong? Why are you upset?" he questioned, crouching down so I was looking at him instead of the ground.

"I don't need to eat, just please don't be mad at me anymore. I'm sorry for being such a burden."

Levi grabbed my hand again before explaining, "I'm not mad at you, Rain. You could never be a burden to me. I'm just concerned about your weight and how slow you're healing after talking with the doctor."

The pain in my chest eased and I nodded as he continued, "You're severely malnourished and you have a long way to go before you're at the weight requirement for your height. But, I'm going to be with you every step of the way, okay?"

I squeezed his hand and murmured, "Okay."

He stood up and pressed a kiss to my head, "Why don't you go and take a shower and I'll cook us dinner?"

I nodded before walking away from him and headed up the stairs. While the house itself was large, the layout was fairly simple and it was easy finding the room I was in before. The moment I stepped into the room, memories of him my near-death experience flooded my mind. I clenched my eyes shut and ran into what I assumed was the restroom, locking the door behind me.

I was trembling and I could feel the ghost of his fingertips grazing along my throat, taunting me. I took in deep breaths and tried to calm myself down before peeling my eyes open.

My eyes widened as I glanced around the vast space. The entire bathroom was marble. The windows above the bathtub allowed sunlight to filter in, brightening the room. The windowsill was lined with succulents that added life to the otherwise empty house. It was simplistic like much of what I've seen of the house but beautiful.

I walked over to the shower and stared blankly at the metal knobs. I was unsure of what to do and debated on asking Levi but I didn't want to bother him any more than I already had. I brushed my hand over the knob and tried pushing but nothing happened so I decided to turn it which resulted in warm water spraying all over me. I hastily sprang back and peeled the damp gown from my skin before folding it and placing it on the ground.

Amidst my movements, I noticed something gleaming out of the corner of my eye. I padded closer to examine it only for a scream to lodge itself in my throat.
