Amy tossed and turned in her bed, never truly finding comfort in any position she tried to lie in, she was exhausted from bawling her eyes out the night before. It would've been perfect if not for the end that had changed her vision of the last decade of her life.
Chasing after Sonic the Hedgehog was a chore that took dedication and determination two things Amy had loads of. If it weren't for the blue blur always inspiring her she'd never have become half the hero she had become today, well not today, today she felt her absolute worst. After years of one sided crushing turning into pining then a guilty obsession, the blue hedgehog had finally took the initiative and took her on the date she had always dreamed they'd go on. Well it was a date with Sonic, one he'd actually planned out for the two, in a way it was special, but also not.
The two had went on a run. A two hour run across the beach with a picnic in between that, they talked about a lot of things, most of it felt like idle conversations, it wasn't until the end that Sonic had stopped beating around the bush and finally let out everything.
"I'm sorry Amy I just can't do this with you," he started, "I love you, I really do, you're my best friend. But that's what this is, I don't... No I can't be the man you want me to be, and you deserve a man that wants you in every way that you want him-"
Amy hadn't really listened to him after the first sentence, 'With you' rang through her ears like a chorus that wouldn't end. Sonic had still been talking but the pink hedgehog's breaking heart silenced all the noise around her, she watched waves meet the shore and time seemed to slow down around her yet her heart beat faster than it ever had.
She could no longer take the feeling of being there, so with a weak excuse and a quick goodbye she ran away, her unsteady breathing and tear stained vision made her balance wobbly. She'd tripped and fell over several times but that wouldn't stop her, she ran through the pain, through the ragged painful breaths she took with every step, through the tears that seemed to run as hard as she did.
The girl made it home a mess, she was covered in sand, dry dirt, scratches, and bruises from the trips and falls she took. Despite that she threw herself in bed then kicked off the blue running shoes she'd chosen for the date, they complimented the sky blue long sleeve she was wearing, her now tear stained sleeves. Her outfit didn't matter anymore she guessed, more like it never did, she curled up into her bed and cried herself to sleep.
The next morning hit her harder than she would've expected. Her body was still tired and sore from the running and she had a headache that was forming into a migraine from being dehydrated, still she made no effort to get up. Her heart ached from her date with Sonic and all she wanted to do was go back to sleep but the pounding in her skull kept her awake. She took her phone out of the pocket of her jean shorts and saw that it was 20 minutes before 6 o'clock, she'd always been an early bird, she also noticed 8 missed calls from the blue hedgehog himself.
She dropped her phone on the side of her bed to better ignore it, the discomforting clothes finally started to get to her so she went to her closet picked out one of the few sweaters she had that were too large for anything, other than a makeshift nightgown.
The long bubble bath helped ease her body from the pains of the day before, but the migraine persisted. After dressing in only underwear and the sweater that dropped between her thighs and knees, she slowly walked to her kitchen for painkillers and a glass of water. She drank the whole cup, taking large gulps that relieved the dryness her throat was feeling and after refilling the cup a second time she made her way back to bed where she could continue to ignore all her feelings.

It had been a month since the event and Amy hadn't left her house, she'd contacted Vanilla and told her she was going out of town. She didn't like lieing to the elder bunny but she already knew she'd be no help in her current emotional state, she started working for Vanilla a few years ago in the hopes to hone her skills as a baker and eventually win Sonic over with her mastery of sweets.
Now she knew one of those would never happen, she curled back under her blanket gripping the phone in her hand, as she watched another movie, she'd basically become a ghost she ignored any calls or texts from her friends it hurt to not speak to them but she didn't want anyone concerning over her or her lack of positivity, she was emotional it wasn't a secret but she wouldn't let anyone see or know she was at her absolute worst.
The movie about a poet grieving her murdered boyfriend was interrupted by a knock on the door, she ignored it and continued until she got a notification
*We're coming in*
Amy sat up and immediately hid back under her covers when the sound of her front door suddenly opened then within seconds her room door had thrown open as well.
"Amy!" The hedgehog was suddenly tackled, by a little body, throwing her and attacker off her bed. She was on the floor her blanket still covering her lower half and wrapping around a calf. "What the Hell?" It was a surprise to hear Cream swear but given the situation she could understand why her friend would be angry with her.
"Language sweetie," Vanilla calmly told Cream then looked at the hedgehog 9n the floor "what the Hell Amy?" The sudden switch from the elder Rabbit made Amy flinch as a barrage of tiny fists were pelted on her by cheese. The chao looked at her teary eyed then hugged the arm it had just been battling, she pet him immediately getting back on the creature's good side.
"Amy your little disappearing act is getting old," Rouge's voice chimed in as she entered the hedgehog's bedroom, "now you're gonna tell us what happened or we'll tell everyone you've been here. And believe me Knuckles has had some words saved up about you 'leaving' out of the blue and ignoring everyone!" The bat inhaled to calm herself down, "Do you have any idea how many times I've heard-" she changed her stance and voice to copy Knuckles, "Have you heard Amy's been gone? Have you heard from Amy? You're a spy why can't you find her?" She let out a long hard groan, "It's been getting on my nerves, maybe if I leave he'll give me extra attention."
"Rouge is right Amy," The elder rabbit said, "maybe not about that last part, but she's onto the right idea." Vanilla seated herself at edge of the bed then continued, "We've all been worried about you, but instead of seeking help you chose to close everyone off. All of your friends, and coworkers, and even the regulars would ask me where you'd gone and I just didn't know anything. No one knew anything." The woman paused to keep herself from crying, "I wouldn't have minded anything if you had just told us all the truth," this made Amy look away, she was ashamed of herself and couldn't make any excuses to explain the choice she made, "Please tell us what's going on. Let us help you, we can't let you suffer alone. Life isn't meant to be done alone when you have people that love and care for you."
The pink hedgehog could no longer hold herself together as she finally started bawling she buried her face into her palms as she wept loudly. She expected one of them to try and stop her, to tell her it was going to be okay and just cheer up, but instead she felt one by one each of the other girls come to hug her, a silent embrace telling her they didn't mind her being sad each one just wanted to comfort her. She sobbed loudly then finally joined the three girls and chao in the group hug, "I'm sorry guys," she whispered between sobs, "I don't know why I acted like this, I just didn't want to bother anyone with... the same thing."
The three girls exchanged looks immediately knowing what Amy had meant, "Sonic." All three said in unison, giving different reactions, Vanilla was calm, she already had an idea as to what had happened, Amy ha told her about a date a few days before she had shut herself in. Cream had sounded hurt, usually the young rabbit was the first to hear anything new in Amy's life but this time she'd been left in the dark. Rouge was the only to let her frustration be known, she wasn't upset with Amy it was the blue hedgehog that was getting on her nerves she could never understand why he would lead her on and repeatedly hurt someone he called his friend.
"I can take rejection, it's not like he hadn't turned me down before but this time... this time-" the girl's voice cracked as more tears broke through, "he said it was my fault."
"He said what!?"
"Sonic said that?"
"He said he couldn't do this with me." Her eyes were already sore from the excessive crying over the month and she felt she was reaching her limit, "Is something wrong with me? Am I not enough for-" Amy was cut off by Rouge placing a finger over her mouth.
"Now don't you for a second start blaming yourself," she moved her hand back to cross her arms, "if anyone is to blame it's Sonic. You're Amy freaking Rose. You helped saved the world almost as many times as that blue jerk, any guy would be lucky to have you."
"It's true! Amy you're amazing." Cream said taking the hedgehog's hand in hers, "You're the most caring and kindest person on the planet, you give all your time to help everyone and you don't ask for anything in return." The young rabbit looked up at Amy with admiration, "When we first met I was a cry baby and I didn't know how to stand up for myself, but thanks to you I can look fear in the face and fight for what's right."
"Amy if you don't believe in what's said, believe in what's done." Vanilla helped each girl up one by one saving Amy for last, "No matter how low you get who's been there to help you back up?"
"You guys." Amy said sheepishly.
"And no matter what anyone else thinks or says who's the one standing up for everyone?" Cream asked already knowing the answer.
"Me?"
"Where's your confidence?" Vanilla said firmly to Amy, "Who isn't afraid to tell off anyone who tries to pick on the weak and defenseless?"
"Me." Amy said with a bit more oomph in her voice.
"That's it girl," Rouge said riding the others energy, "Light that fire. Who's not afraid to look down Eggman and throw a hammer at his fugly stache?"
"I'm not!"
"And who's the second baddest bitch of all the heroes on earth?"
"I'm the baddest- wait second?"
"Sweetheart you'll always be second while I'm kicking." Rouge sent a playful wink towards Amy and the group laughed.
"Okay this does feel good," The hedgehog admitted softly then added, "I missed you guys. I'm sorry I shut down."
"We forgive you," Vanilla said embracing the young girl one more time, "maybe this is something you need a girl's day with all your friends."
Cream let a squeel, "That'd be so fun, right Cheese?" The chao let out a gleeful noise as it nodded, "I rarely get to hang out with you Rouge and this is the perfect way to."
"Sure thing kid but gotta warn ya," the bat let out a nervous chuckle then admitted "I've been called a bad influence."
"Okay then it's settled," Amy said putting a close to the agreement, "once a week or so we'll all get together, hang out, and catch up."
"I'm in." Cream said, she was the one with the most free schedule, other than school she lived day by day.
"I think I can make it happen," Vanilla said, other than her bakery and Cream she was pretty available, "I could just change store hours on the days we plan on getting together."
"It'll be a little hard for me," Rouge admitted G.U.N never had consistent hours sometimes paperwork could have her on the clock for a few hours or whole missions could make her leave for weeks at a time, "Oh what the hell, I'll guarantee at least once a month if not every other week."
"This is gonna be so much fun," Cream said jumping from excitement, "when can we do the first get together?" All girls looked at one another and then each came to the same conclusion.
"I'll pick a movie to put on."
"I'll make popcorn."
"There are face masks in the bathroom after all this crying I need one."
"Ooh let me paint your nails! We can have a spa night."
The four girls had a great night doing make overs and giving each other manipedis. Amy even enjoyed the movie the movie that was picked out, a romcom about a young woman that decides to change her life and keeps track of it all in a diary, she also falls in love with a good man she judged harshly in the beginning of the movie. In her defense he was pretty rude and kind of a jerk but he was also kind and caring, someone Amy herself could fall in love with. Well with Sonic no longer an option maybe another dashing gentleman would woo her, maybe her knight in shining armor was out there waiting for her to.
