The glass tank in the center of the robot suddenly exploded, making the machine nearly lost its balance, and missed the blue hedgehog.

Sonic weakly looked up and stared, astonished by what he was seeing. There stood Shadow, right in front of him and growling angrily at the mad scientist. His stripes were glowing red, his quills were moving gently with the intensity of his power.

Eggman was surprised by this, didn't know that his captive would be able to escape, and now he was mad at him...

"I won't let you destroy my family!" The black hedgehog charged at full speed, nearly making the robot fall again. The machine tried to counter-attack, but Shadow was faster, in a blink of an eye we was behind the robot. Suddenly, out of instinct, his palm started to glow as he attacked.

"Chaos Spear!"

A multi-colored lighting-like spear appeared in Shadow's palm, and he throws it at his enemy. Robotnik was just baffled, and he tried to quickly find an escape. But Shadow saw it.

"You won't go away!" Shadow's entire body suddenly glowed red, preparing his final attack. "Chaos... Blast!" A powerful,  red blast destroyed the robot...

The army started to come just as the battle finished, they were looking for Robotnik. Shadow's energy slowly calmed down, and he quickly ran were Sonic was, still on the ground.

"Sonic?.." He gently approached the beaten up hedgehog on the ground, and was wondering if it was too late. He carefully picked Sonic up in his arms, and small tears started to fall from his eyes.

There was suddenly a soft groan and a small movement in his arms. Shadow quickly saw Sonic starting to wake up. "S-Sonic?.."

The blue hedgehog groaned in pain once again, before slowly opening his eyes. "S-Shads?.."

Shadow quickly hugged his loved one close to him, being careful to not ad to his pain. "S-Sonic!.. I thought you were..." He sniffed as more tears felt.

Sonic chuckled weakly but groaned in pain quickly after. "I-I'm still here... Eggman w-would need more than that to g-get rid of m-me..." He looked up in Shadow's eyes. "A-And I was right about y-you after all... You a-are special... What y-you did was absolutely a-awesome..."

The red striped hedgehog blushed a little at this. "I just... Acted on instinct... I couldn't just let the one I love die in front of me, right?.."

Sonic chuckled again. "Yes... A-And I suppose that y-you earned a reward f-for your heroism..." He gently made his lover comes closer to him, and they both kissed, Shadow melting in the kiss.

"Sonic!?" Suddenly Tom and Maddie ran to them. The two humans were helping the citizens during the battle.
Tom quickly stared in surprise at the scene in front of him, his wife saw it too and smiled, she knew that all along.

"I told you." Maddie winked at her husband and ran to the two hedgehog, who quickly stopped their kissy time. Tom got out of his surprise and followed his wife.

Maddie gasped a bit in worry when she saw Sonic's state. "My vet cabinet won't be enough this time... We need to get him to the hospital."

"I-I'll be fine..." Sonic tried to reassure his family, but he started to cough, some blood escaping his lips.

Shadow looked, very worried. He wanted to help him, but he just had no idea how...

Suddenly some soldiers started to approach the family. "Don't move."

The black hedgehog started to growl in warning, holding Sonic closer to him for protection.

"These hedgehogs saved Green Hills and stopped Robotnik. They aren't dangerous." Tom stepped in front of Shadow, protecting him and Sonic if he had to.

"The government will decide that. You're the one who tried to hide the blue alien, now there's two of them."

"Sonic and Shadow saved us, saved the entire town! They have all the right to be here." Maddie goes next to her husband, wanting to defend her family, too.

"Yeah! Sonic saved our town when the army didn't cared of this Robotnik guy that was destroying our peaceful town! And now this other hedgehog did the same. Where were the army when Robotnik was destroying our town? If Sonic and the other hedgehog weren't there our town would be gone now! They are our town symbol!" Some citizens even joined Tom and Maddie, not letting the soldiers approach the two hedgehogs. Shadow was speechless,  there was humans he doesn't know that was standing right there, just for him and Sonic...

The soldiers started to back up, not wanting to cause a ruckus against a whole town. They were able to capture Robotnik, that was knocked out with Shadow's powerful blast. "The government will be aware of this." One of the soldier said before walking away, as they handcuffed the mad scientist and left.

The citizens got back to their business. Some of them saw the horrible state of the blue hero and they got worried. Some wanted to help as well but Tom and Maddie declined, saying that they will just go to the hospital as quickly as possible. Since Sonic was known in whole Green Hills, the hospital could probably help them.

"We should go quickly, Sonic need medical attention right now." Maddie urged.

Shadow quickly nodded and gently carried Sonic.

"I-I'm tired..." Sonic said weakly, groaning in pain.

Maddie looked at him with worry. "You need to stay awake, Sonic... We are going to the hospital quickly... You will be able to rest there, I promise..."

Everyone quickly goes in the car as Tom was driving them all to their destination. Maddie was keeping an eye on Sonic and Shadow, he was stressed and scared.

"Shadow... You need to keep Sonic awake, alright? If he falls asleep, there is a chance that he doesn't wake up again..." Maddie explained.

The black hedgehog made a small sob, trying to control his emotions. "A-Alright..." He looked down at Sonic, and held him closer. "S-Sonic?.. You remember when Tom and Maddie said that one day you covered a whole room with bubbles?.." He softly asked, trying to distract his loved one.

Sonic made a small smile at the question. "Y-Yeah... I was k-kinda embarrassed when they f-found out... But I had f-fun..."

"Can you tell me how you were able to do that?.."

The blue speedster chuckled weakly. "I-If you want, love..." He whispered the last word, and he started to tell his funny stories, while Tom was driving towards the hospital...
