Sonic was eating slowly, with a worried look on his face. He couldn't shakes the fact that his enemy could be back, and probably because of him...

"Sonic, you okay dear?" Maddie asked, a little worried.

Sonic got out of his thoughts. "Oh, yes... Yes, I'm fine..." He continued to eat slowly.

"I told him what I discovered at work..." Tom added.

"Oh..." Maddie started. "I'm sure it will be fine, maybe it's nothing. But if not I'm sure you will be fine, you're strong after all." She smiled at him, trying to reassure him the best she could.

"I'm not really worried about me. Now I have more control over my power. But what if he tries to attack the town, or anything? I'm worried for the people here..." The blue hedgehog sighed.

"He... Who?.." Shadow asked innocently, feeling lost in their conversation.

"The guy who wanted to capture me to take my power, and that I had to fight to send him to another planet. You remember that?" Sonic answered him, even if it was obvious that he don't wanted to talk about his enemy...

"Yes... So? He is back?" The ebony hedgehog asked again.

"Maybe. We don't have proof for the moment, but some special investigations are trying to find him." Tom answered the curious hedgy.

"Oh, I see..."

Sonic growled a bit while finishing to eat, unhappy about the subject of the discussion.

"How about we taste this beautiful chocolate cakes?" Maddie asked with a smile, taking the plates from everyone before coming back with the desserts made by the two hedgehogs.

After dinner and their movie night, everyone was going to sleep, aside for a certain blue hedgehog...

"Sonic... You okay? You look angry since dinner..." Shadow asked cautiously, currently sitting on his bed, looking at his blue counterpart.

"I am not angry... I just-" Sonic sighed loudly. "I was living my life until that guy showed up and tried to capture me to use me like a living battery or whatever. Then I successfully defeated him and lived a perfect life, and now he is back to cause havoc!" He groaned in exasperation. "I just wanted to have a normal life!.."

Shadow suddenly felt useless, he wanted to reassure Sonic, badly, but he just was clueless at how he could do it...

There was silence between both of them. Until Sonic sighed again, trying to calm his anger.

"Sorry... I shouldn't have to scream like that. You did nothing..."

The ebony hedgehog looked at him. "It's okay. I just don't know how to make you feel better..."

The blue speedster started to smile. "Come lay down with me."

Shadow blushed a little with a small, shy smile, but complied to his blue counterpart request.

Sonic held him close with a smile and gently purred. "There... Now I feel better..."

Shadow's blush deepened but he continued to smile, his tail gently wagging in happiness.

"I'm worried about you... What if this mad man attacks the town, or even tries to capture you? I won't forgive myself if something happens to you..."

The red stripped one looked up to his lover. "I know you will protect me." He gently nuzzled himself on Sonic's chest, making said hedgehog purrs louder.

Some days later, Sonic was still on edge since he knews that Robotnik could be back...

The two hedgehogs were watching the TV together, they were alone today, Tom and Maddie were at work.
Until, suddenly, the electricity went down.

Sonic looked up at the light. "Weird..." He then looked at his black counterpart. "Wait here, I'll see what's wrong." He got up from the couch.

Shadow only nodded, until he felt the ground trembling. "Sonic?.." He asked, worried.

"It looks like something heavy is walking..." The blue hero was seriously on his guard. He suddenly saw something. "Watch out!" He quickly got Shadow out of the way, as something smashed one of the walls. Sonic looked up with a growl, he knew exactly who it was...

Robotnik showed himself, standing next to his robot, on his eggmobile. "Hello, Hedgehog. Did you miss me?" He said, smirking.

Sonic growled louder. "Not at all, Eggman..."

Robotnik then saw the red, striped hedgehog. "Oh? A new one? Interesting..."

The blue speedster growled more. "You won't have him! You will have to fight me first!" He quickky started to attack the robot, who blocked it and counter-attacked.

Robotnik smirked evilly. "With pleasure. And this time I'll be victorious!"

Sonic was still fighting the robot, but he got some injuries. It was stronger than he thought...

"What's wrong, Hedgehog? My robot is too much for you?"

Sonic growled angrily. "In your dreams!.." He did a successful Spin Dash, but the robot was still able to fight, he then suddenly was thrown in a wall, hard.

"Sonic!.." Shadow suddenly screamed in fear and worry, he couldn't just watch Sonic being hurt like that by that maniac. He started to growl. "Don't you dare hurt my family!" His eyes glowed a little and he suddenly charged the robot.

The blue hedgehog groaned in pain. "N-No... Shadz..." He tried to sit up but he felt dizzy, this hit did numbers on him...

As Shadow tried to fight the robot out of instinct, Robotnik got intrigued by this striped hedgehog and scanned him while he was fighting. "Interesting..."

He then thought of something and smirked, he could just finish Sonic off, but his robot took a lot of damage, and he have an idea to get it stronger. Robotnik suddenly shoot at Shadow, a electrified net enveloped him and shocked him painfully. The ebony hedgehog screamed in pain until he fell unconscious.

Sonic's eyes widened. "N-No!.." He tried to get up, but his head was pounding, his arms and ribs were hurting him. The only thing he could do was watch Eggman fly away with Shadow...

He felt stupid...

He felt guilty...

He felt weak...

He promised that he would protect his lover, but he failed... He underestimated the robot, and because of him, Shadow have been captured...

"Sonic!-"
