Ryder stepped out of the pants too, so he was left in just a pair of blue plaid boxers. Then he walked up to where I was and sat beside me. I just sat there and stared forward, trying to numb myself as he pulled my shirt off. I can't believe this is happening...
A rush of dark energy slammed into my back, knocking me clear across the room and into the wall. As I struggled to stand, Ryder was stalk still, staring straight at Aym. I stopped trying to get up and just stared at the fallen angel prince. What the hell....?
Then I realized what had happened. I don't know how Aym got here, but I knew what he was doing. He'd used the element of surprise to stun Ryder and was now pulling him out of the host's, Alexander's, body. Into a... vase. At least that's what it looked like. Aym was holding a small black vase in his hands, it was etched with strange runes and markings.
"To think," Ryder's voice sounded strangled. "I considered you a friend."
"Your mistake," Aym smiled pleasantly and ripped Ryder out of his host.
I watched, jaw hanging open, as Ryder in cloud form was sucked into the little vase thing and Aym snapped the lid shut. Fear choked me. I had never seen such a thing. I had no idea demons could inhabit non-humanoid vessels. What had just happened? Numbly I looked at Alexander whatever his last name was. He was breathing, looked fine, just unconscious. My eyes jumped back up to Aym. He met my eyes for a long moment then smirked and walked around the bed towards me.
"How are you Kaysden?" he laughed. "You look a little pale. I must say that I prefer this body to the old one, much sexier."
"I- what-"
"You mean what is this?" he looked down at the vase. "This is a way to trap demons here on earth and kill them without killing the host."
"Why-"
"I've been wanting to get rid of Ryder for quite a few hundred years," he shrugged. "This was the best opportunity I could grab with the least repercussions. Everyone in hell now knows that it was you who rejected Ryder. He admitted it himself, said that you were fed deceptions by another devil about his intentions towards you and that tonight he was taking you home as his exclusive.
I can now go back to hell and announce that you did in fact reject him for his person and that he forced himself onto you. I had no choice but to force him from his body. I currently have forces freeing the three that Ryder imprisoned. Their testimonies, your testimony and Clay's recordings will confirm my story, none of us will suffer for this."
"Clay?!" I jumped to my feet then. "The human that joined my taskforce?!"
"Yes," Aym laughed at my expression. "I had him placed there. I was waiting for an opportunity like this."
"What are you going to do with him?" I looked down at the vase.
"Clay!" Aym called without warning.
"He's here?!" I demanded. "What the hell is a human doing here?!"
"He's not a human," Aym sighed as the door opened and Clay strode in. "He's a pyro."
"What?!" I stared at the irritating human. "There is no way he is an elemental."
"I am," Clay said very calmly. "One of my talents is to hide my abilities."
"Clay, kindly incinerate this," Aym tossed the vase backwards.
I watched as Clay caught the small thing and his hands caught fire. SOB Clay really is a pyro... and he was frickin good at hiding that he wasn't human. Damn that annoying thing. Then it melted. The vase melted into a small black puddle in Clay's hand, then evaporated. And the power knocked us all off our feet. The death of a devil releases its energy and Ryder was a royal devil, he had a hell of a lot (no pun intended) of dark energy.
"That was fun," Aym said happily, standing up. "Now I have to go sort out the aftermath in hell."
He waved his hand and a portal appeared. Without looking back once he walked through that portal. Ryder's gone. He's dead... he can never come back. I'm free. If what Aym said is true, and considering his position he probably thought it through very well, then this is it. I'm really free...
I started laughing. A strange, giddy feeling flooded my stomach and I just couldn't stop laughing. I was free, really free. I heard Clay leave but I really could care less about that. I felt like a great weight had been lifted from my chest... a weight that had been there since 1778.
"Victoria?" Nick called from the doorway.
"Nick?" I stood up, still grinning like an idiot.
"Are you alright?" he rushed to me.
"He's gone!" I beamed, wrapping my arms around his neck. "He's gone Nick! It's over... oh my God... We can go home..."
"Yeah," he grinned, wrapping his arms around me. It vaguely occurred to me that I was just in my bra and a skirt, but I really could care less right now. "So how about that house in hell?"
"Sounds good to me," I grinned, holding onto him like a lifeline as I laughed so hard I cried.
2 months later
"Do I have to go?" I pouted as Estara jerked on the corset ties.
"Yes love," Nick grinned, straightening his jacket. "It's just dinner, it won't kill you."
"It's a demon state dinner," I muttered. "With my mother... why is this neccesary again?"
"You are a demon princess," he shrugged. "And you're are getting married."
"I know," I smiled, looking down at the ring.
"Let's leave the fact that you're inviting Chris and Matt until dessert shall we?" he grinned.
"I don't think I'll tell her at all," I shuddered.
"So you're just gonna let a Werewolf and a mind tell show up at the ceremony and hope your mom doesn't freak enough to ruin the day?"
"My mom's got a good poker face," I said. "She can wait until after the honeymoon before blowing up at me."
"I'm finished miss," Estara told me, standing up.
"Thank you," I stood up too. Damn the dress was tight... but it looked friggin amazing.
"Do you need anything else miss?" the maid looked at me through the mirror in front of me.
"No, you're free for the night Estara."
"Thank you miss, sir," she bowed her head to me and Nick then scampered out of the room. Estara was adorable and efficient, everything I required in a maid.
"So, you ready to face your mother?"
"Nope."
"You'll be fine," he came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my corseted waist. "I love you."
"Love you too," I smiled, leaning my head back so it rested on his shoulder.
"So here starts the good part," he smiled at me through the mirror.
"What do you mean?" I murmured.
"Neither of us have had an outstandingly happy life before now," he laughed. "So the good, happy part starts now. We're announcing the engagement, we've got our house."
"Yeah," I sighed happily. "It's starting now, and no way in heaven am I gonna let it end."
"Amen." I met his eyes in the mirror and neither of us could stop laughing.
