A loud "Get up," woke her up the next morning. She opened her right eye, her face scrunching up as the curtains were obviously forgotten about last night and were still opened. The room was bright from the morning sun and she looked around to see Jim standing at the room, arms crossed across his chest. "You can leave."
She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and sat up, pulling the sheet up with her. She was still very much so naked and right now, with his statement and the way he was looking at her, she didn't feel comfortable about it at all.
She cleared her throat "What?"
"You heard me, you can leave now. You're free to go, need I draw it for you?" he spoke bluntly before he turned around, "Your stuff is back at your place already so chop chop." With that, he walked away. She cleared her throat again, not really knowing how to respond as she looked around her room to see it empty. What the hell was going on? She quickly got up and pulled her dress on from the night before as that seemed to be the only thing of hers that was still in her room. Why was he letting her go? This wasn't right. Confused, she walked out of the room, running her fingers through her hair.
"What the hell is going on?" she asked as she walked into the main room where Jim was sat on the couch, talking on the phone. She didn't care, she needed answers because the more she thought about all this, the more this looked like one of Jim's little games. She crossed her arms on her chest and watched him end the call.
"And here I was, thinking that you could actually compete with me in this big bad world, all this is actually kind of embarassing," he said and stood up, "Wine?" He grabbed two glasses and grabbed a bottle of wine, opening it up and pouring some of it into both glasses.
"Do you not need my work anymore?" she asked as he handed her a glasses but she only stared at it.
"Suit yourself," he replied and drank her glass in one swing, "I never needed your work. Well, I did but I don't anymore. You're useless now, I got everything I wanted from you."
Okay, you know, she should've seen this coming. Wow, she really was pathetic to think any of this wasn't a part of his plan. He realized that he couldn't destroy her physically so he decided to do it in a different way. And it worked. Because she was hurt. And so disappointed. And not about the way this whole thing played out but in herself. Because she actually thought... Shaking her head, she cleared her throat for the third time that day, a blank and unreadable look taking over her feature.
"Okay," she started, "Fine, thank god you did because I couldn't stay here for another second." Wow, she really was pathetic. If Jim thought he could play with her mind like that he was wrong. He thought he won but Violet still had one more move. The last big plan. She was going to destroy him. Every single last piece of him. Three cheers for sweet revenge.
She should've known it would come to this. It was obvious. She wasn't heartless like he was, yes she was a pretty damn good criminal and very much bored but at the end of the day, she was human. And she had feelings. She wasn't really sure what he was but right now, she didn't even care. The only thing she cared about is this, her next move. He hurt her and she was going to bring him down. She said it before, she was as good in this game as he was, if he thought she wouldn't have a backup plan, he was so wrong. And so, the next day, she smiled when she read over the article in the newspaper. She did it. She made her last and final move. He was going down.
'Jim Moriarty, the consulting criminal mastermind exposed!' the title read.
'There's been a lot of rumours as to where the culprit is and what he's been planning. Well apparently, he's not preparing anything except maybe his way out of England. Because we have here, the true story about who Jim Moriarty or should we say, Richard Brooks actually is.'
She brought everything, every single last piece of evidence she managed to flock when she was researching him to the publisher. Of course Kitty Riley wasn't her only plan, she wasn't stupid when it came down to stuff like this. She had this planned all along, she was just angry at herself for not doing it sooner and without any heads up. Because now, even though she succeeded and won, she still felt hurt. Sentiment isn't something that you can just throw aside, especially not if you're at least slightly human.
But what she forgot about was the fact that he was actually a king. He owned everything. He had people everywhere, there isn't a thing you could do to him that would stop him. Because he can't be stopped. He's above all, above the law, above the crime, above the world. So why was she so shocked when he knocked on her door at 3am in the morning the next day? She thought it was over, she thought he would be in prison by now, rotting away in a cell with no way out but she was wrong. As always, she made a mistake and now, she was sure that this was the end.
"You know, I knew you aren't a genius but you are a specialist so how are you this bad at this game?" he spoke as he walked inside her flat, his hands in his pockets. This time, she really was scared as he stood in front of the window, looking at her with dark eyes. They say that your eyes are the window to your soul but with him, that wasn't true. Because when she looked at his eyes, she saw death. He doesn't have a soul. "I thought you were smarter than that. But of course you're not, you're ordinary."
"If I'm ordinary, then how come I outsmarted you?"
"Outsmarted me?" he scoffed, "Sorry kitten, there's only one person who's come close to outsmarting me and it surely isn't you."
"How are you-?"
"How am I still here?" he raised his eyebrows, "Violet, don't embarrass yourself, you know I can get to anyone, anywhere. There's not a lot of things that surprise me in this world, you know, but your arrogance surely is one of them. Did you really think you'd get the final move?"
"I-"
"Don't even bother because I'm sure that everything that would come out of your mouth would only further prove your stupidity and gullibility," he spoke. Violet's eyebrows furrowed.
"Gullibility?"
He sighed and rolled his eyes, "Did you really think I didn't know you had a copy? I truly underestimate me, Violet, it's getting kind of hurtful."
"You knew?"
"Well of course I knew, stupid," he spoke with a boring tone.
"Then why did you let me go to the papers? You could've stopped me," she spoke, raising her eyebrows. He sighed again and walked towards her, only stopping when he was right in front of her.
"Oh sweet Violet, you're boring, so boring," he shook his head, mocking sadness, "You know, humans are actually so weak. Especially if they start to feel sentimental, feelings are so easy to play with," he added, looking at her with a sarcastic smile. A look of confusion crossed her features. He couldn't have known, could he? Was she that obvious?
"Oh please," he spoke before she could, "did you really think I'd have sex with you for pleasure? You surely knew that wouldn't be the case, right? Did you really think I'd have sex with you because I liked you?"
Showing hurt or fear to this man would be the worst thing you could do. And that's what Violet did, stupidly. But that's what she was, right? Stupid? Her eyes filled with tears. Of course he wouldn't tell her he knew about the copy. No, that would be too easy. He needed to take this to another level, play with her feeling for his own good. He knew that if he hurt her in that way that she'd act on instinct. Heartbreak, especially in Violet's case lead to a great need for revenge. He knew how she'd react, he only needed to nudge her into the right direction and here they were. He won.
"My god," he looked her up and down, disgusted, "you really are ordinary." The room fell quiet as a tear rolled down her cheek and she sniffed. She wiped it away with the back of her hand.
"You're a monster," she spoke and he burst out laughing.
"You're only getting this now?" came his loud reply. He shook his head, his laughter calming down as he looked down on her, "Oh kitten, don't cry. It breaks my heart," he added in a mocking tone. He was enjoying this, as always. This was his way of having fun.
"You don't have one," she replied. He nodded, smiling.
"True, true," he answered, "And that's why this won't be hard at all." He clicked his fingers together and a red dot once again appeared on her chest, dancing around the white fabric almost lazily. "Oh, one more thing, have you heard of a man called Max Thompson?" She shook her head, still looking down at the red dot as her heart thumped against her ribcage. By this point, she knew this was inevitable so she wasn't exactly sure why she was so nervous. Maybe it was just another proof that she was much more human than he was.
"Yeah, he was a real nice guy, quite charming to be honest and I heard he had a daughter with a woman called Emily Gray a while back?" Her head snapped up at her mother's name.
"What did you do?" she asked, voice trembling.
"You shouldn't have messed with me, Violet. You really shouldn't," came his calm reply, his voice dangerously low again. She cried out loudly.
"Oh darling, think," came his reply as he looked down at her. "What do you think I did?" he added, leaning closer to the point she could feel his breath on her lips. His eyes travelled down her nose to her lips before he licked his own. He looked at her for a split second, winking before he grabbed the back of her head and crashed his lips against her, a mixture of mint and tears and as he pulled away, he looked at her for the final time, smiling.
"Goodbye, kitten," he spoke before he turned away from her. She closed her eyes. This was it. This was the end of the game. Before she knew it, he clicked his fingers together again. A loud 'bang' filled the room for a split second before her body dropped to the floor with a loud 'thud'.
Everybody should know not to mess with him. He was ruthless, he was a psychopath without a heart. He didn't feel, he didn't care. There isn't a thing you could do to him that would break him. He would always come back, with full force. He played deadly games with people because he was bored, and he knows he'll win them all.
He walked out of Violet's flat building, smiling as he fixed his tie. He won this one too.
Long live the king.
The End
