"Guardian?" A light voice said, which a small lag on the last syllable. I didn't know what it meant by guardian but somehow I knew that it was referring to me. I couldn't feel my eyelids open but I could now see, as if before I had been blinded.

"Guardian?" The voice said again, I cocked my head over to the left to address it. There was a small machine levitating in the air, the only way I could describe it was a strange metallic Rubix-cube.

"Guardian!"

"YES!" I responded suddenly and it flew back slightly in shock. My voice was strange, slightly distorted, slightly robotic, and I couldn't feel the once familiar vibration in my chest. I clutched onto my throat, startled by myself. But I felt smooth metal instead.

"Is there something wrong guardian? Can you breathe?" The Rubix-cube said in concern, hovering close to me again. I took my hands away and nodded my head slightly, not wanting to speak again.

"Ok, do you feel anything strange? Anything out of the ordinary?" He insisted.

"My voice." I managed, wincing at the sound of it.

"No that appears to be normal for an EXO." It responded happily. I was getting slightly frustrated for all of the terms that I didn't understand.

"Sorry, but could you please explain everything? Like what are you, and who am I, and why can't I remember anything?" I asked, I was panting even though I hadn't engaged in anything physical.

"My bad, I was meant to remember a speech to tell you about everything but there haven't been new guardians in a long time. I kind of thought that we had gotten them all, especially since the light faded..." It began. It tried to maintain a positive attitude but it was obvious that it was struggling.

"Light?"

"I'll get to that." There was a large shriek that could be heard roughly a mile away, and other war cries that followed.

"Oh for traveller's sake, we need to go as soon as possible. You are a guardian, I am a ghost, you died a long time ago, and I was made to bring you back to life to defend the traveller, which made me and all of the light. More correctly, I am your ghost. And it is my duty to keep you alive. Did you get all of that guardian?" The ghost said, having a few glitches and spasms randomly throughout the description.

I nodded in approval, I didn't know what the shriek meant, but I wasn't willing to stand around and find out. Guardian, EXO, all of the terms weren't fitting in.

The ghost materialised into thin air suddenly, and I stood there for a few seconds, trying to think of what to do next.

"Ghost?" I called quietly.

"Yes, guardian?" I heard a voice say as if it I were in my head. I flinched in surprise.

"Woah! Are you in me?" I asked, feeling my head to see if he was attached. I felt two antennae, one on either side of my head.

The ghost chuckled lightly.

"No guardian, I am not in you."

"Oh."

"..."

"..."

"You thought about that in a dirty way didn't you?" The ghost asked me and I burst out laughing, then stopped as my laughter sounded the same as my voice did, slightly distorted and different.

"How could you tell?" I asked. Beginning to run in the opposite direction of the shriek.

"Your wiring sent out a dose of testosterone." Ghost said which cause me to go silent for a second, I attempted not to laugh again at the silence.

"Wiring?" I responded with a sigh, still confused on the terms.

"YES, Guardian. This is basic EXO anatomy." Ghost said, I could tell that if it had shoulders it would have shrugged at me.

I stopped running, wanting some answers.

"Ghost, what is an EXO," I asked.

Ghost hesitated for a second, I could almost hear its optics moving as it thought.

"You are, guardian."

"What do you mean, I'm a person, a human being," I said casually. I felt a portion of purity leave my body and the Ghost materialised in front of me again. So close that my eyes could barely focus on it.

"Hold out your left arm please." It asked. I resisted an urge to be stubborn and did what he said. I held out my arm and my jaw dropped. Instead of skin and flesh, my arm was made out of intricate wiring and metal plates completely covering the arm, all spray-painted a messy yet reflective bronze colour.

"What the hell..." I began, flipping my arm over and over again like the other side would somehow make sense. I extended my fingers slowly, listening to the dull metallic sound my muscles made as they moved. I was a robot...

"Guardian I need you to calm down, your heart rate is accelerated." The ghost said with concern, how could I have a heart if I was a robot?

I began to run again, then it turned into a sprint, I needed to burn off this energy. Suddenly I stopped, hearing footsteps other then mine, neither ghost or me talked, both aware of our company. One by one strange alien stepped out of the shadows, some with four arms, some with two, all sharing one thing in similar which was a gun aimed at me.

"Run, you don't have a weapon, Guardian. You can't fight them. Not yet."

I turned around and tried to sprint away but I was knocked down by the force of a bullet as it entered my leg, making me yell out in pain. I fell to my knees.

Run. The words burned into my new memory and I pushed myself off the ground, limping away.

I only made it a few metres before another bullet smashed into my other leg making me fall face down. My face shrivelled in sheer pain and tears would have stained my eyes if I were able to cry.

"I'm so sorry Guardian..." I ghost said and then trailed off. I wasn't giving up yet, I began to drag myself across the dirty gravel, muscles powered only by determination. I heard deep voices shriek out again, this time in victory. I felt a net being thrown up over me, restricting me of movement.

"I'll send a distress signal to the farm, but I'm not in range to teleport you back there." Ghost said, glitching like crazy in stress. He materialised and one of the aliens with a spear jabbed him with it, sending a powerful shock through the small ghost and he fell to the ground beside me.

With the few strength I had left I reached my arm out and grabbed onto him, pulling him next to me so they would have to go through me first. They killed him, they killed my ghost, they killed the only thing that wanted to help me in this new world.

I felt a spark ignite inside of me, and I yelled out in a battle cry, head forced up as my body was taken over by a new strength, my body lit up in flames, consuming me entirely and I felt a gun in my right hand, made entirely out of embers. Without thinking I twisted around and shot them all, aiming for the heads and they burst out in flames one by one until there were none left.

The flame went out as quickly as it began, and I sat there, clutching at a gun that didn't exist anymore and I fell back onto the ground. Exhaustion eating away at my insides as I panted uncontrollably. My vision began to die out and blur.

I heard a voice coming from my ghost but it wasn't my ghost's voice.

"This is Cayde-6, lucky for you I got your distress signal! I will be arriving at your location shortly, over. *sigh* I gave up spicy ramen for this so it better be good. Over." The voice said, somehow, it calmed me down. It was the last thing I remembered before I fell unconscious.
