Her fingers clutched the edge of the towel as panic threatened to bubble up again. She peeked at the door. The thought of walking out wrapped in just a towel in front of Vayran sent a wave of embarrassment crashing over her. Heβs probably still in the room.
She cursed under her breath, trying to think of a solution. Should I call out to him? No. Heβd enjoy this too much. The memory of his smug smirk made her clench her teeth.
Taking a deep breath, she opened the door a crack, peeking into the room. Vayran was nowhere in sight, but the sound of a chair scraping against the floor told her he was still in the room, likely near his desk.
Biting her lip, she debated her next move. She needed to get to the wardrobe on the other side of the room, grab her clothes, and retreat to the bathroom before he noticed.
Quick and quiet. I can do this.
She stepped out cautiously, her bare feet making no sound against the floor. The towel was tightly secured around her, but she couldnβt shake the feeling of vulnerability.
As she tiptoed toward the wardrobe, her worst fear came true.
βAaravika.β
The deep, amused voice stopped her in her tracks.
She slowly turned her head, her cheeks burning as she met Vayranβs gaze. He was leaning back in his chair, one hand holding a cup of coffee while the other rested lazily on the armrest. His dark eyes sparkled with a mixture of curiosity and mischief.
βWhat are you doing?β he asked, his tone as casual as if they were discussing the weather.
She clutched the towel tighter, her embarrassment turning to frustration. βNone of your business,β she snapped, turning her back to him and marching toward the wardrobe.
βWalking around half-dressed in my room makes it my business,β he retorted, setting the coffee cup down and standing up.
She froze again, her heart pounding. She didnβt dare turn around, knowing his gaze was likely fixed on her.
βDonβt you have any shame?β she hissed, pulling open the wardrobe door and grabbing the first outfit she could find.
βFunny,β he said, his voice closer now. βI was about to ask you the same thing.β
She spun around, glaring at him despite her flushed cheeks. βStay where you are.β
His lips curved into that infuriating smirk. βRelax. Iβm not the one parading around in a towel.β
Her jaw tightened as she clutched the clothes to her chest. βTurn around.β
βWhy should I?β he challenged, crossing his arms.
βBecause if you donβt, Iβllββ
βYouβll what?β he interrupted, stepping closer. βThrow those clothes at me? Go ahead.β
Her breathing quickened as she realized she was backed into a corner, both literally and figuratively. He wasnβt going to make this easy for her.
βFine,β she said through gritted teeth. βKeep staring. If this is the only entertainment you get, I feel sorry for you.β
His smirk faltered, just for a second, before he stepped back. βYouβre impossible,β he muttered, turning around with a wave of his hand.
But before she could escape, βIf you take one more step, Iβll walk over there and make sure you donβt forget your clothes again,β he said, his voice low, almost a growl.
