"JJ... what happened?" you asked, almost scared to hear the answer.
"Did you fuck Hyunjin??" Tessa gasped, covering her mouth.
Her brazen question was met with silence.
"JJ, ewe!!!" Alaska squealed, covering her eyes, her purple unicorn headband slipping from her head. "You didn't... oh god, not with my brother!! Why???"
JJ groaned. "It was a lapse in judgement, a weak moment!! He just looked really hot that night, and who am aiming to refuse a hot guy who literally offers himself up to me? Like I said, it won't happen again."
"He looked hot in his Jaq costume?" Alaska said disbelievingly, looking nauseated. "Girl..."
"You are so kinky, JJ!" Tessa clapped her hands wildly. "I bet you kept the outfits on, didn't you!"
"Stop!" JJ moaned, glancing at Alaska nervously. "I regretted it right when it was over. I always- I mean, it was amazing, but-"
"Girl I am warning you..." Alaska interrupted, eye twitching.
"But I told him I fucked up!" JJ finished. "We aren't doing that again. We're just friends."
"I don't believe a word of it," Robin declared. "There's no way that man's dick wasn't life changing. Actually I'm having a hard time believing this was the first."
"You guys are so gross," Alaska mumbled. "I should've known this would happen..."
"Does anyone have anything to say that will somber the mood a little?" Renee joked. "I can't even bear to look Seungmin in the eye, let alone sleep with him. Thinking about it makes me itchy."
"Well, I might get fired from Park and Paws!" you broke in, voice a little too strained to pull off the attempt at a lighthearted subject change.
Everyone whipped around to face you, expressions ranging from shock to confusion to anger.
"Girl, what??" Tessa exclaimed.
"Come again??" Riley deadpanned.
"Hua..." Mya whispered, mouth hanging open.
"Uh... so that might have been the reason why I had a breakdown on Halloween," you laughed nervously. "And my drinking buddy? Namjoon."
"He did look yummy in his pirate costume," Robin nodded appreciatively.
"A whole meal," Tessa agreed. "If I wasn't so busy with Taehyung..."
"But... you might get fired??" Renee repeated, not phased by Robin or Tessa's jokes. "I thought they were really happy with you!"
"I guess they think I'm not doing well enough," you replied, fighting to keep your voice steady. "And they're going to talk to me at the end of the trip about the status of my employment."
"That's absolute bullshit!" Tessa seethed. "You are an incredible worker! You're a whole ass workaholic. They couldn't ask for more, or you'd keel over!"
"You are glued to your email," JJ agreed.
"And you love those dogs!" Mya cried. "You've been working wonders with them."
"Especially Kkami," Alaska confirmed. "He's cute, but a menace. You've turned him into a gentleman."
"Whatever you need, Hua, we got your back," Renee said seriously.
"We got you!" All eight girls chorused.
You smiled back at them, heart full to bursting. It felt really good knowing how many people you had in your corner. And you were going to try your damndest to make sure Park and Paws kept you around.
But would that be enough?

okay why was this one of my fave chapters to write? 🤭 it was a little long and i got a bit carried away, but i just love writing our girlies so much! hearing all the details of their crazy halloween night was a must-have, and now we even know about riley and chan's date! poor robin and jisung have some stuff to talk through, jeongin and mya are official, jj claims that this was the last time she'll see hyunjin (do we think she's telling the truth...?), renee seems to be comfortable not making any moves on seungmin, and is minho avoiding tessa? anyway... seeing the girls hyping up hua is so great! they'll always have her back no matter what 💪
