as they waited, vanni glanced down the line when she noticed a group of four girls mumbling to each other just behind them. their words were low, but vanni could make out enough.
"yo, who the fuck is that skippin the line," one girl whispered harshly. "exactly. like how big are you," another added with a sneer.
vanni's brow furrowed, her ears picking up on their subtle jab. she turned around slowly, her expression steady. "what'd you just say?" she asked, her voice calm, but firm.
the girls froze for a second, their chatter ceasing mid-sentence. "nothin'," one of them said quickly, avoiding eye contact.
"don't act stupid," vanni said, stepping back a bit to face them fully. "i heard what you were saying."
"okay and? here's a cookie, fuck." another girl snapped, crossing her arms defensively.
yas stepped forward at vanni's side, her presence grounding and protective. "what's happening?" she asked, her voice smooth but with an edge.
"it aint yo business," the same girl shot back, though her voice had lost some of its confidence.
"nah, something's clearly bothering you," yas pressed, folding her arms now. "you over here talkin shit bout someone for no reason."
"she cutting," the girl muttered, though her tone was quieter this time, less confrontational. vanni raised her voice slightly, addressing the group directly. "i wasn't cutting. i stepped out to use the bathroom and came right back to where i was."
"you still shouldn't have done it," the girl shot back, her voice growing louder again. "we've been waitin'. you can't just skip and then act like it's normal."
"and who the fuck gon stop me?" vanni countered, her frustration bubbling beneath her words. "you fat anyway," one of the girls sneered, her tone sharp. "ain't nobody gonna care about your excuses."
yas's face hardened, and she stepped in front of vanni slightly, her body tense. "the fuck," she said, her voice low and commanding. "who she talkin to, my heart?"
vanni's chest heaved with every breath as her fists clenched tighter, her eyes locked onto the girls who stood their ground, smirking at her. "they got me fucked up," she hissed, her voice low and deadly.
yas stepped in front of vanni again, her tone fierce. "you done messed with the wrong bitch," she growled. "ain't nobody gon' talk to my cousin like that."
the girls exchanged glances, their confidence wavering for a moment. but one of them, emboldened by the crowd of people watching, stepped forward with an attitude. "what, you think you gonna fight too? you a joke. stay in your lane."
"lane?" yas snapped, her eyes blazing. "you buggin'. ain't no lane here. y'all need that?"
"talkin' all that, but can't back it up," another girl sneered, folding her arms and leaning in closer. "you ain't built for this."
"built for what?" yas shot back, her voice filled with venom. "bro come on and let's fight."
the air between them buzzed with tension. people began to gather around the commotion, some watching curiously, others stepping back to avoid getting involved.
music blared in the background, but the words cutting through were sharp and intense, slicing through the warm summer vibes like a blade.
vanni's mind was a whirlwind of anger, but she felt yas's presence beside her, steady and protective. yas never let anyone disrespect her familyβand today was no different.
"keep talkin'," yas warned, stepping forward, her voice now a low growl. "is y'all gon catch this fade or?" the girl smirked, stepping closer, her friends behind her as backup. "you talk too much. let's see what you got."
without another word, yas launched into action. her fist connected with the girl's face, a sharp crack echoing through the air.
the girl stumbled back, hands flying up in surprise, but yas wasn't done. she grabbed another, shoving her with enough force to send her tumbling onto the grass.
vanni didn't hesitate. she dove into the chaos, fists swinging. the anger was a blur, a rush of adrenaline driving her forward. the sound of fists meeting skin, the shouts, the screamsβit all blurred into a chaotic symphony of fury.
"bitch let go of my fucking hair!" yas yelled, her voice loud and fierce, filled with protective rage. she wasn't holding backβnot now, not everβespecially when it came to her cousin.
the crowd around them began to cheer, some cheering yas and vanni on, while others shouted for them to stop. but they couldn't hear anything beyond their own battle, their focus locked onto the confrontation.
another girl tried to grab yas's hair, pulling viciously, but yas yanked her arm off with brute force, slamming her into the ground. vanni pinned one of the other girls against a cooler, her grip strong, fists flying in rapid succession.
the battle raged on, fists pounding, shouts filling the air, until the crowd began to buzz with panic. the shouting hadn't stopped, the chaos still swirling around them like a storm.
"yo chill, what the fuck!" notti's voice cut through the noise like a sharp blade. before vanni could react, notti stepped in from behind her, his arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her back effortlessly despite her struggles.
"let me go!" vanni shouted, thrashing in his grasp. "i ain't done yet!" notti tightened his grip slightly, his strength unrelenting. "nah, you done," he said calmly, his deep voice a stark contrast to the chaos around them.
vanni kicked and twisted, her movements desperate, but notti held her firmly, his size and strength overpowering hers. "you not about to ruin my shit," he continued, keeping his tone low and steady, like he had the situation under control.
"nigga get offa me!" vanni screamed, her voice rising again, her hands clawing at his arms, trying to pry herself free.
"yo, notti!" dd's voice rang out as he stepped into the fray, grabbing yas who was still fuming, her fists clenched, her jaw set with determination.
"dd, let me go!" yas snapped, her eyes blazing with fire. "i ain't playin' with these bitches!" dd shook his head firmly, his grip unyielding. "not now. chill for a second, ma."
the struggle between vanni and notti continued, but slowly, her thrashing became weaker, her energy starting to wane. her voice softened, her breath coming in short, heavy bursts.
"move.. stop," she panted, her voice breaking. he didn't loosen his grip right away, giving her a moment to regain her composure. "you cool?" he asked lowly, his tone steady despite the tension.
vanni's chest rose and fell, her anger simmering down, but her voice still firm. "don't touch me nigga, the fuck."
notti eyed her, releasing her slowly, but staying close. "you buggin, you needed to chill."
dd let go of yas and stepped back, both of them taking deep breaths to steady themselves. yas's hands were still clenched into fists, her breath shaky but controlled.
"you good?" dd asked her quietly, watching her closely. yas nodded, her jaw tight. "yeah," she said through gritted teeth. "but they lucky we ain't finish it."
"nah," notti said, his voice a low murmur. "they had enough." vanni was still catching her breath, her heart pounding in her chest.
the adrenaline that had been driving her fight faded, leaving behind a quiet, simmering rage. she glared at the group of girls, now standing a little further away, silent but still angry.
"you good now?" notti asked again, his voice softer this time, watching her closely. vanni met his gaze, her eyes cold and defiant. "fuck up," she said quietly, her breath evening out.
notti nodded slowly, glancing toward yas and dd. "yo dd," he said, his voice low and steady. "lets go bro."
the group started to walk away, the tension still thick in the air. but vanni kept her focus locked on the girls who had crossed the line, her mind racing with thoughts of what might happen next.
