Minji pouted as she stared up at the darkening sky, the first raindrops already splattering onto the pavement. She rummaged through her bag, hopingโ€”prayingโ€”that by some miracle, her umbrella would magically appear. But of course, luck wasn't on her side today.

"Ah, seriously?" she whined, crossing her arms as she watched students open their umbrellas and walk off, leaving her alone under the school entrance.

"Idiot."

A familiar, gruff voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and she turned to see Kyung-jun standing beside her, one hand shoved into his pocket, the other holding his umbrella over both of them. His usual scowl was in place, but his ears were a little pinkโ€”something she always found cute.

"You're calling me an idiot? I just forgot my umbrella, that's all!" Minji puffed her cheeks.

Kyung-jun scoffed. "Exactly. Who forgets an umbrella when it's literally been raining all day?"

She stuck her tongue out at him. "Well, it's not like I did it on purpose!"

He let out a sigh, shaking his head. "Just shut up and walk."

Minji giggled but obeyed, stepping closer under the umbrella. She was practically pressed against him, and she could feel the warmth of his arm against hers.

"You're all grumpy, but you still waited for me, huh?" she teased, looking up at him with a bright smile.

Kyung-jun rolled his eyes. "Tch. It's not like I wanted to. I just didn't wanna deal with you whining later about getting sick."

Minji laughed. "Sure, sure, keep telling yourself that."

They walked side by side, raindrops drumming softly against the umbrella. The streetlights reflected off the wet pavement, making everything look warm and golden despite the cold rain. Minji kicked at a puddle, watching the water ripple before sneaking a glance at Kyung-jun.

He was always rough with his words, always acting like he didn't care. But she knew better.

"You know," she started, rocking on her heels as they walked, "you could just admit you like me, Kyung-jun. I wouldn't mind."

He stiffened for half a second before scoffing. "In your dreams, sunshine."

She grinned. "Aww, you're blushing~"

"Shut up!"

Minji giggled, leaning her head against his shoulder. He grumbled something under his breath but didn't push her away. Instead, he tilted the umbrella slightly, making sure she stayed dry.

The rain continued to fall in soft drizzles, the rhythmic patter against the umbrella filling the silence between them. Minji hummed a tune under her breath, content with the warmth beside her.

Kyung-jun, on the other hand, was desperately trying to ignore the way his heart was pounding. She was too close. Her flowery shampoo mixed with the scent of rain, making it even harder to focus.

Why did she always have to be so... bright?

"You know," Minji suddenly spoke, breaking the silence, "this is kinda romantic, don't you think?"

Kyung-jun nearly tripped over his own feet. "What the hell are you saying now?"

She giggled, swinging their joined steps slightly. "Sharing an umbrella on a rainy day, walking home together... It's like something straight out of a drama!"

He scoffed, gripping the umbrella handle tighter. "If this was a drama, I'd be the mean second lead who never gets the girl."

Minji turned her head to look at him, eyes twinkling mischievously. "Hmm, maybe. But I like second leads more, anyway."

Kyung-jun stopped walking for a split second before quickly continuing, his face heating up. How this girl could say such things out of the blue ?

"Whatever," he muttered, looking away. "If you like second leads so much, go find another one to bother."

Minji pouted. "But I like bothering you."

She tightened her grip on his sleeve and smiled up at him, and damn it, Kyung-jun felt like his heart was about to explode.

"Ugh, you're annoying," he grumbled, pulling the umbrella lower to hide his face.

Minji just giggled. "And you love it."

He let out a long sigh but didn't deny it. Instead, he moved the umbrella slightly so that more of the rain splashed onto his own shoulder, keeping Minji completely dry.

And if Minji noticed that his ears were even redder than before, she didn't say a word.

Maybe rainy days weren't so bad after all.
