Afraid of Losing You
Kyung-jun had always thought of himself as someone untouchable. Someone people feared, someone no one dared to cross. He carried himself like nothing could hurt him, like he was above feeling things too deeply.
But that was before Minji.
Before her, he never knew what it was like to be afraid.
But now? Now, he knew. And he hated it.
He hated the way his heart dropped when he couldn't find her after school. Hated the way panic clawed at his throat when she wasn't answering her phone. Hated the way he found himself running through the rain, searching for her like a madman because she had texted him hours ago saying she wasn't feeling well, but then she never responded after that.
By the time he reached her house, he was completely drenched, his pulse thundering in his ears. He knocked hard, almost desperate.
It took a few moments, but finally, the door opened.
Minji stood there, wrapped in a blanket, her hair messy, eyes blinking sleepily at him. "Kyung-jun?" Her voice was hoarse, confused. "What are youβ?"
He didn't let her finish.
Without a word, he pulled her against his chest, holding her so tight that she let out a small squeak of surprise.
For a moment, she didn't move. Then, slowly, she melted into him, resting her cheek against his soaked hoodie. "You're all wet..." she murmured, voice soft.
"I don't care," he muttered, his grip tightening.
Minji blinked up at him, her fingers hesitantly resting on his back. "Kyung-jun... what's wrong?"
He didn't answer right away. His jaw was clenched, his heartbeat still erratic. Then, after a long moment, he exhaled shakily, his forehead pressing against the top of her head.
"I thought something happened to you," he admitted quietly.
Minji's breath hitched.
"I tried calling. You weren't answering. Iβ" His voice faltered, his fingers curling into the fabric of her blanket. "I got scared."
Minji's heart squeezed at his words.
Kyung-junβthe same Kyung-jun who acted like he didn't care about anything, who always kept his walls up, who never let anyone see him vulnerableβwas scared.
Because of her.
Slowly, she reached up, her hands threading through his damp hair, stroking softly. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "I fell asleep. I didn't mean to worry you."
Kyung-jun let out a slow, shaky breath, leaning into her touch.
"...Just don't do that again," he mumbled. "Or at least tell me before you disappear like that."
Minji smiled softly, shifting back slightly to look up at him. His dark eyes were laced with something raw, something unspoken, and it made her chest ache.
"I promise," she said.
Kyung-jun didn't respond, just stared at her for a moment before sighing. Then, without hesitation, he cupped the back of her head and pressed a firm, lingering kiss to her forehead.
Minji closed her eyes, warmth spreading through her at the familiar, silent way he said I need you.
When he pulled back, his hands were still on her, as if making sure she was real.
"You're such a grump," Minji teased lightly, a small smile forming. "But you're completely weak for me."
Kyung-jun scoffed. "Shut up."
She giggled, wrapping her arms around his waist, resting against him again. "It's okay. I'm weak for you too."
He didn't say anything, but his arms tightened around her.
And for now, that was enough.
Kyung-jun didn't let go of her for a long time. Even when she pulled away slightly, trying to peek up at him, his arms refused to loosen. It was like he was afraid that the second he let go, she'd slip through his fingers.
Minji let out a soft breath, pressing a hand to his chest. "Kyung-junnie..."
He stiffened at the tone of her voiceβgentle, knowing.
"You really were scared, weren't you?" she asked, tilting her head.
He looked away, jaw clenching. "Tch. Don't make a big deal out of it."
Minji smiled, a mix of affection and amusement. "But it is a big deal. You came all the way here in the rain for me."
Kyung-jun clicked his tongue, finally loosening his grip just enough to glare at her. "Because you're a reckless idiot who doesn't check her phone."
Minji giggled. "Aww, you care so much~."
He groaned. "I regret coming here."
"No, you don't."
He sighed in defeat becauseβyeah. He didn't.
Minji grinned before tugging on his sleeve, guiding him inside. "Come on, you're soaking wet. You'll get sick if you stay like this."
He let her pull him in, too exhausted to argue.
A few minutes later, Kyung-jun found himself sitting on her bed, hair slightly damp from the towel she had thrown at him, while Minji rummaged through her closet.
"I don't have anything in your size, butβah-ha!" She turned around, holding a hoodie in her hands. It was pink. And covered in tiny bear prints.
Kyung-jun stared at it, unimpressed. "No."
Minji pouted. "But it's warm!"
"I'd rather freeze."
Minji stomped over, holding it out stubbornly. "You'll wear it and you'll like it."
Kyung-jun narrowed his eyes. "Minjiβ"
"Kyung-jun," she shot back in the same tone, crossing her arms.
They had a silent stare-off before Kyung-jun exhaled sharply and snatched the hoodie from her hands. "You're so damn annoying," he muttered, pulling it over his head.
Minji clapped her hands together, looking way too pleased. "Aww! You look adorable!"
He shot her a look. "Say that again and I'm leaving."
Minji giggled before plopping down beside him, leaning against his shoulder. "Fine, fine, I won't tease. But..." She peeked up at him, her voice softer now. "You're really staying?"
Kyung-jun sighed. "You're still sick, aren't you?"
Minji blinked before nodding slowly.
"Then yeah." He reached up and flicked her forehead lightly. "Someone has to make sure you don't pass out or forget to eat."
Minji rubbed her forehead, but her lips curled into a soft smile.
She lifted her hands and ran them through his damp hair, stroking it gently. Kyung-jun immediately tensed before relaxing, his eyes fluttering shut at the familiar feeling.
"You're so soft for me," Minji whispered.
Kyung-jun grumbled, too tired to deny it.
Minji giggled, then leaned up to press a small kiss to his foreheadβjust like he always did to her. "Thank you for coming," she murmured.
He opened one eye, watching her for a moment before sighing and pulling her against his chest again. "Yeah, yeah."
She just smiled, snuggling into him.
And for the first time that night, Kyung-jun wasn't afraid anymore.
