shouted once he emerged from the adjoining room. "This time you're not getting away." He threatened with his sword held in defence. While the pair had their exchange the other guards didn't waste a second in lifting Isabel and Simon from the ground and restraining them also.

"Finally ready to kill your own father?" He taunted.

"You abandoned me."

"I was protecting you, Jace. You weren't ready then, but you've grown. You've become the warrior I've trained you to be." He said as if he was proud.

"You trained me well."

"And yet, I still have so much to teach you. I brought you here for a reason. Look, fight me, and watch your friends die." He warned just as three more guards arrived, restraining Alec and Magnus also.

Arya and Alec made eye contact and shared a look that neither understood, but it gave them both a feeling of hope never the less.

"See, you are strong, but they make you weak." He taunted and Jace looked at each of his friends being held against their own will.

"Let us go," Clary demanded. "You can have the book. We won't be able to stop you without it." She admitted.

"Ah, Clarissa." He clicked his tongue in approval almost. "So like your mother." He observed. "Willing to do anything for those that you love. I'm touched but...the book was never part of my plan. I want you to wake up your mother. I know that you'll both join me eventually. It's fated." He smirked before turning back to his blonde-haired son who still had his seraph blade pointing at Valentine. "You ready?" He asked with a grin, in comparison to Jace's icy stare.

The blonde boy looked between all of his friends, they were all helpless. He looked at Alec and then Arya who had only just admitted how much they card for one another and were finally non the track to being happy. Then to Isabel who's brother and Arya were the two most important people to her in the world. They were his family. Not Valentine. And that was why he lowered his blade. "If I go with you, promise me you won't hurt them." The blonde insisted.

"You have my word," Valentine swore but nobody honestly believed that he would keep it.

"This is insane." Clark protested.

"I'm sorry, Clary." He said and he sounded defeated. Jace had given up.

"Jace...what are you doing? You can't be serious. Valentine is wrong." Her voice broke as tears filled her eyes. "You're not like him. I'm not. You're not!"

"You don't know that, Clary. You don't know that." Jace insisted.

"Let them go," Valentine called and the guards released all of them.

They all immediately made a move to try and stop Valentine or Jace and Arya took one step towards him before his seraph blade was pointed directly between her eyes. "Stay back! Get back. Arya, I mean it." He insisted and Isabel was quick to move her away from Jace's bladeโ€”shooting a quick glare at her so-called 'brother'.

"Jace." Clary tried to convince him but it was useless. He had already made up his mind. But he didn't take his eyes off of the redhead until he had fully disappeared alongside Valentine inside the portal.

Clary sprinted forwards after him but was restrained by Magnus who was also quick to stop her from getting inside. "What are you doing?" She cried pushing the warlock off of her.

"Saving your life, biscuit. If you enter a Portal not knowing where you're going, you'll be stuck in limbo forever." He warned her and Clary continued to cry as the portal finally disappeared and fell into Magnus' chest sobbing.

Alec quickly made his way over to Arya and held her close against his chest and kissed her head. If she had disappeared through that portal too he wasn't sure what he would have done to get her back. He didn't even want to think about it. The thought made him want to throw up his breakfast lunch and dinner. But when she wrapped her arms around his torso he felt guilty for feeling so happy and relieved that he had his girlfriend in his arms when Jace was missing but he was still allowed to feel some happiness he told himself.

Once they arrived back at the institute, they watched the guards take Hodge awayโ€”more than likely to the silent brothers.

Arya and Isabel headed off together to seek comfort from one anotherโ€”their sister.

"Alec asked me to be his girlfriend," Arya mumbled as they sat down on Arya's bed. "I said yes." She added once she saw the look Isabel was giving her.

"That's great." Her parabatai smiled widely.

"It would be. But I feel guilty for being happy about it because Clary's lost, Jace. We all have." She explained and Isabel nodded understandingly.

"You're allowed to feel happy, Arya. This is what the pair of you have wanted for years." She said happily and Arya sent her a look. "I'm your Parabatai, I know you better than you know yourself." She smirked and the brunette nodded. "I'm really happy for you and my brother." Isabel sighed.

"I like him, like a lot." She grinned, the feeling of fluttering in her stomach erupted as she thought about it.

As they say, every grey cloud has a silver lining.

To conclude the day, the group which consisted of Magnus, Alec, Arya, Isabel, Luke and Clary crowded around Jocelyn's unconscious stateโ€”more than ready to lift the spell she was placed under.

"Is this going to work?" Clary asked hopefully. She needed at least one good thing to happen that day.

"Let us hope," Magnus spoke vaguely, as if not to get her hopes up. He flicked open the book and started his magic, speaking an unknown language nobody had ever heard. But it seemed to work

when the green bubble around Jocelyn disappeared and she collapsed into Luke's arms.

The mother and daughter had a long time coming reunion which was another positive to add to the day. But there was still a cloud hanging over the institute no matter how much they had succeeded. That cloud would only be fixed by Jace. But at least they had one another. For now.

Arya had finally listened to the advice of her friends and family and decided that she shouldn't feel bad about accepting their help. This was why instead of suffering through another night of nightmarish sleep, she made her way to the person she wanted most at that moment.

She knocked on his door and he called for whoever it was to come in. He was lay staring at the ceiling in his bed, the only light source being his lamp. When he saw it was her, however, he smiled.

He saw the look on her face, the one where she already knew what kind of night she would have been in for had she not gone to him. So he didn't wait for a second to nod with his head and pat the bad beside him, pulling back the sheets for her.

"I was hoping you'd come." He admitted once she climbed in and they lay with both of his arms wrapped around her, holding her as close as he could. "You wouldn't have been the only one getting no sleep." He chuckled as she buried her head into the crevice of his neck.

"You have no idea how relieved I am that you're okay." She mumbled in response and Alec ran his free hand through her hair as they both slowly drifted asleep.

"Trust me. If it's in any comparison to how I feel. I
do." He sighed. Reviling in the feeling of her in
his armsโ€”the feeling of knowing she was safe with him and she was really there.

It was moments like those where he realised that falling in love with each other didn't make either of them weak. It made them want to fight harder for those they loved. And they would do just the same for Jace. No matter what it took. They could do it if they were together.

Alec and Arya. Together at last. But for how long could it last?
