"The legends of the past shape our lives and those of our children. One such legend tells of a struggle that almost destroyed our world. The names of Orakio and Laya echo down through the years, still inspiring love and hatred even now, almost one thousand years after their tragic deaths. Their conflict wiped out civilization and left the survivors in a world of mutated monsters and warring pockets of men. Into this shattered world you are thrust, to live or die by your sword and your wits.....
The legends of Landen, our hero's homeland, tell of world-sweeping wars fought almost one thousand years ago. Brave Orakio sought to foil the evil schemes of the dark witch Laya and her hordes of monsters. In the final battle, all combatants were killed, although Orakio and Laya's bodies were never found. The passage ways between the Layan worlds and the Orakian worlds were sealed. In time people forgot that there were other worlds besides Landen.
Two months ago, a young woman washed up on the shores of Landen. She remembered nothing of her life prior to waking up on the beach. This seemingly minor event sets this epic adventure into motion."
- prologues to Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Book 1 of a novelization of Phantasy Star 3, following Rhys' (Kein's) story.
Written during my freshman/sophomore year of high school, 1994-96. Unedited and uncorrected, so there's likely to be some misspellings, incorrect grammar, things that I got wrong about the story/lore, etc.
For a loooong time, Phantasy Star 3 was the only fan fic I had ever written down. I've since begun writing a Phantasy Star 1 fan fic (under Monkeeshrines). I've branched out so much! ;)
It's dedicated to a friend of mine that had passed away during her junior (my senior) year. She had never played the games but liked the story and was the only one I showed this to before completing it. She kept asking me when I was going to finish, which I sadly didn't do until after she passed.
