Nine-year-old foster child, Reese Lewis, has been in five homes over the last two years.

Her newest placement feels just like the others, and Reese promises herself that she won't get too attached. Despite her strongest efforts, the fourth-grader forms a bond with the Portmans' teenaged daughter.

Reese struggles to define her feelings for her temporary family, and phone calls with her mother only complicate the picture.

When her foster sister undergoes a traumatic experience, Reese puts her own issues aside to help the teen find peace.
