An 11 year old Kazuya Takahashi accompanies his older sister, Hikari, while she's a year away in the Alola region for school.
The young boy meets a girl from the Aether House named Acerola, and the two form a friendship, as Kazuya gets more comfortable around Ghost-type Pokémon.
