Maritza "Mari" Nguyen believes that everyone who comes through her New York corner store is a part of her community. She refuses to leave a customer alone without sharing a friendly conversation to get to know them. Now, this may be an internal method to carry on her parent's legacy through the store or a marketing tactic, but it works regardless.

One day, when a gruff brooding man carrying a hard hat comes in, her friendly charms fail her. Now, Mari wasn't one to give up but this guy wasn't making it any easier for her. So, when the man agrees to the free food that Mari offered to him, it becomes apparent that maybe he wasn't the toughest puzzle to crack, after all.
