Der Herbst in Boston hat eine eigene Atmosphäre, die Sonne ist noch stark und der Indian Summer zieht auf und langsam wird es kühler. Die Farben der Stadt ändern sich und die Menschen sind gut gelaunt, der Urlaub ist vorbei und die natürliche Arbeitshektik ist noch nicht auf dem Höhepunkt . Mit dem Taxi fahre ich vom Richtung richtig General Hospital. Über meine Freundin Charlotte habe ich für ein paar Tage ein Apartment organisiert. Sie hat mich am Bahnhof abgeholt, sitzt jetzt neben mir im Taxi und redet wie ein Wasserfall. Meine Blicke konzentrieren sich auf die Stadt in der ich lange nicht war. Im Apartment angekommen werfe ich meine Sachen auf das Bett. Es ist eine kleine Wohnung, ein Studio mit offener Küche, sehr praktisch. Wir sind noch mit ein paar Freunden verabredet und nach drei Bier und einem fetten Burger bin ich reif für das Bett. Irgendetwas ist merkwürdig, aber ich bin zu müde, um darüber nach zu denken. Mitten in der Nacht wache ich auf. Die Wohnung hat etwas sehr Befremdliches. Mir gehen verrückte Gedanken durch den Kopf und schaue mich um und finde nicht mehr richtig in den Schlaf.Am Morgen mache ich mir einen Kaffee und dann schaue ich mich nochmal um. Es gibt keine einziges Buch, nichts zu Lesen in der ganzen Wohnung. An der Wand hängen gerahmte Poster, auf der Anrichte leicht angestaubt einige Glasfiguren. Die Wohnung ist sauber aber ganz ohne Literatur.Niemals habe ich mich in einer Wohnung so unwohl gefühlt. Immer wieder habe ich die Wärme und die Ausstrahlung von Bücher oder Zeitschriften gespürt. Später erzähle ich Charlotte von meinen Eindrücken und sie erklärt mir, dass die Bewohnerin Analphabetin ist und als Aushilfe in der Krankenhauskantine arbeitet. Bis heute schaue ich auf die Bücherrücken in den Regalen wenn ich irgendwo eingeladen bin, so lernt man viel über die Menschen. Wie kann man ganz ohne Bücher nur leben ?…
