A Portrait of Wendy
Pre-face: The following stories, 21 total, are one short story about a Wendy's restaurant. During my years at ETSU, I had to walk anywhere I wanted to go mostly, and I'm a fan of Wendy's so I quickly became accustomed to the nearby Wendy's. Around the last year, I began noticing the variety and sometimes amazingness or strangeness of the people that also went, and so i set out to write a story. Inspiration was drawn from Henry James' Daisy Miller: A Study inasmuch that "Wendy", the restaurant, is treated as if she were the Daisy Miller being studied (or Daisy studying the dude, depending on how ya look at the novella) The style of chapters/stories also comes from older American literary styles as well as Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles, in the sense that the chapters are only loosely placed in chronological order, i.e. the 3rd story may have happened after the 5th. There are many metaphors and strange ways of writing implemented; however, the main point was to make sure that all of it was completely true, not just based on a true story. Everything, though written in a confusing manner, in this story are true events. As a note, the restaurant, Wendy, is always referred to as feminine pronouns. All instances of she/her refer to Wendy. Similarly, all instances of masculine pronouns, he/him/his, refer to...well, me. The story is very weird and will probably offend you at best. Enjoy.…
