(UNEDITED)The silence was loud, too loud. You could probably hear a pen drop. Sirius was barely breathing, unable to move his gaze from the dark mark upon Peter's flesh. Sirius prayed that his friend of so many years hadn't really joined the dark lord, but the mark made it so abundantly clear that he had. "What have you done?" Peter didn't respond, that's when it clicked. Prongs. Lily. Harry, his godson.. Sirius ran, ran as fast as he could before shifting into his Animagus form. He had to make it, he couldn't lose his best friend-his brother. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Padfoot was panting now, finally taking a moment to catch his breath. Looking up at the street lights, he snorted, because of course Dumbledore had used his light stealing device-whatever it was called. Padfoot froze-there, in a small basket, was his godson. His precious Prongslet all wrapped up and abandoned on a doorstep. Padfoot glanced around quickly before shifting into his human form. Once Sirius had shaken off the chill of the morning, he crouched down in front of the basket. Ever so slowly, Sirius raised his godson from the basket and pulled him close to his chest. Sirius gazed down at the fragile bundle of joy currently asleep in his arms, and oh Merlin how he had missed this little troublemaker. Sirius was quick to burn the basket and the letter that came with it, letting the ashes blow away as he turned back to his godson. "You're gonna be ok, Uncle Padfoot's going to take care of you now." He allowed himself a few moments to enjoy the comforting weight of his godson in his arms before he pushed to his feet. "Let's get you somewhere warm, hmm?"…
