Marinette is the princess of china but her and her family had to move to France when she was little because her uncle Sebastian (mothers brother) wanted the throne all to himself. He drove them away with threats so they went in hiding and 13 years later Marinette and her class have to go to china for a field trip the same time Marinette has to go back to get her throne back.
