"But he refused it, and he said he won't be able to do anything by force."
"I didn't say I'm going to force him to do it. I will find a way to make him lose the strings he tied to himself. As long as I'm alive, he will live."
I was determined. And even though, I had no plan in my mind, I knew deep down that, I would play my cards right and get him to undergo the transplant. Money wasn't the problem. Hell, I could even pay for his surgery from my bank account.
"Listen, I don't want to speak of that again and I came here with a... request to you." He sounded desperate and I couldn't wait to hear what he had to say.
"You know Aarush; you have been through a lot this week so I planned for a getaway to chill. It's not like Netflix and chill, it's like get your thoughts at the back of your head and be a little productive something like that." I already understood where he was getting at.
"So, what's the plan?"
"I spoke with my friend in Goa and we can secure a spot for the weekend if you agree. I haven't told anyone because I wanted to hear what's your thoughts first." He made a puppy face that made him more glowing in that darkness. I wanted to laugh but I suppressed it for my own sake.
"As long as I don't have to take care of your arse when you drown, then I'm in."
He laughed genuinely at my response. I also needed the break for real. I was all worked up with everything that had happened in the previous two weeks. Roy was still there fidgeting with his fingers in awkwardness. He didn't know if he had to go or remain and I didn't want him worked up as I was.
"You know I could use a shoulder to cry on right now."
I just said it to clear the air and lighten the mood, but he was happy that I trusted him and wanted to cry on his shoulder. He came to where I was sitting and crushed his body with mine hugging me as I faked sniffles and rubbed my nose all over his shoulder. We both burst out laughing before I made a mental note to quiet down, so we wouldn't wake Aryan who was sleeping beside me.
Because I couldn't sleep and he chose to stay up with me, we crashed Netflix till 5 in the morning. We then went to make breakfast and retired to have a quick nap before the grand breakfast with the whole family.
¶
We left for the airport at about 10 am. I was still sleepy, but after Roy said to everybody that we had a surprise waiting for us, I had to fake enthusiasm. It was the hardest fucking moment of my whole 12th grade.
As soon as we landed, two hours later, we had the schedule of the perfect weekend at a beach. The weekend was far better than I imagined. I did a lot of crazy things with the whole troop. We planned a list of things to do for the weekend in Goa like in the Nickelodeon show, 100 things to do before high school.
While Roy took us to the beach where his friend was and started to introduce us, I saw Zain Agarwal, Disha's first brother walking by the beach. We never talked much about him, but I remembered his face from the pictures I saw back at Disha's house. He didn't look like he had aged even a little. Even though he was somewhere near thirty-three years if I wasn't mistaken, he still looked young. If I didn't know him, I would have said he was in his early to mid-twenties. I guess good genes ran in their families after all.
I had to excuse myself saying I was supposed to greet someone and they were all shocked. We had just twenty if not ten minutes at the beach, and I already had people I knew and wanted to meet or greet. I was excused though.
"Zain Agarwal, how are you doing?" I sounded cheesy.
He turned to me and looked at me crazy. Yep, I did sound cheesy and stupid when I greeted him like that.
"I'm sorry who are you? I don't remember you from anywhere."
"Yeah, you don't. I know your family and I saw your pictures so I came to say hi." I was awkward and acting out of character. Wait, I was supposed to introduce myself! I thought and face palmed myself in my mind before extending my hand. "Namaste, I'm Aarush. Aarush Solanki. Disha's –"
I didn't finish what I was saying before he cut me off.
"Aarush? Like, the Aarush? From Uttar?"
"Umm, that's kind of what I said. I didn't know you knew me." I was then self-conscious all of a sudden.
"No, I don't know about you. I just, I've heard about you."
"I hope it's all good things."
"Even if it was a bad thing, it had to be good or for a good purpose. Like your suspension after you fought with your teacher, it was like the teacher had it coming."
And it was then confirmed that he knew more about me than I did him. I even started to regret going after him and put a face to the person he had been told about.
"You sure did hear about me. Disha got a confidant there."
"I said something wrong, didn't I?"
"The fact that you don't even know what you said makes me see why she chose you of all his brothers. You two have a lot in common."
"I also see a lot of her in you, I wonder why you two called it quits."
What did he mean by that? Called it quits like we were dating? That was a confusing turn of events.
"I don't know what she told you, but we weren't dating. We were just friends and we hang out from time to time." I had to set the record clear.
"Oh, I thought the breakdown she had the whole week was because you guys broke up. I bet she was confused." He was deep in thought.
"Yeah, she does that most of the time." I wanted to change the topic and after I saw people surfing, I found a perfect distraction. "She told me about you as well. She said you own a beach here in Goa. And that you have a successful business going on."
"Did she say that?" He was shocked to hear that.
"She did. And look at the people here, it seems you've got it all under control. I wonder how you did all this at such a young age. I might need to sit with you for an interview if you won't mind."
I wasn't exactly lying when I said that. I had a lot of questions, to be honest. I thought he had those 100 meters beaches with a little shop at a secluded place that no one knew about. It was a surprise to see the beach that was built. It had a fucking hotel for Goodness'' sake. Or maybe that beach wasn't his.
"I didn't know you tell people you own this place. What a shocker!"
It was a male voice that I recognized too well. I just couldn't put an instant face to it since I hadn't heard of it for a long time. It had come from behind me.
"I should have known of that honey. He had grown too attached to this place to make his orders. Announcing it is his, was just a matter of time."
A female voice replied. That's when I was sure it was them. I turned around and there they were. Looking more elegant than ever. The people I had grown to love before we lost all contact.
"Aunt Shreya, Uncle Dev!" I called them since they kind of ignored me.
"What?!" They were all shocked to hear that.
I didn't know it was supposed to be a shocking thing for somebody to call their relatives uncle and aunt. And the horror look on Zain's face was just all the reason to surprise me more.
"Dev and Shreya Chopra of Goa, it's I, -"
"Vinod!"
