"What is this, a scrap of maths homework?"
(y/n) snatched the paper out of his hands and examined it herself.
"Look, the name at the bottom!" she said, pointing to a six letter word that had been scribbled in the bottom right corner.
"Clavis. He wrote his name at the bottom! It's gotta be him!" she said excitedly, before examining the seemingly random boxes that had been colored in. "This has to be some sort of cipher he wrote. I just gotta figure out the pattern..."
"Find any pattern yet?" Nathaniel asked (y/n), who was lying on Clavis's bed.
The two of them were currently in Gavin Clavis's quarters.
While Nathaniel was searching the room for anything suspicious, (y/n) was on her back on the bed, holding up the piece of graph paper.
"Other than the colored in boxes looking like a deranged smiley face, I've found nothing" she said defeatedly.
"And I haven't found anything out of the ordinary either" Nathaniel admitted, as he looked through the desk drawers for a fourth time.
(y/n) groaned with frustration, and shoved the graph paper into her pocket.
"Darn! I can't believe we've hit a dead end already!" she ranted. "Oh, you're good, Clavis. Except you idiotically wrote your name at the bottom of your stupid paper! Who does that?!"
She screamed in resentment.
"We can't find any dirt on Clavis, we've run out of leads, and we can't figure out the one stupid clue that falls at our feet! How could this possibly get any worse?"
A servant suddenly arrived at the door.
"I regret to inform you that Mr. Geoffery Greene will remain unconscious for at least twenty four hours."
"Huh. I stand corrected" (y/n) said.
"Yes, but that also means that we've just lost any hopes of possibly obtaining the names of any more suspects" Nathaniel said.
He then turned towards the servant.
"Thank you, Winston."
"My pleasure, Master Nathaniel V" Winston replied, before showing himself out.
The instant he was gone, Nathaniel slumped over and groaned in frustration, making his way to the bed where (y/n) was lying in her slump.
"Mind if I join you?"
"Yes."
Nathaniel plopped onto the bed anyways, forcing (y/n) to scoot over.
(y/n) sighed.
"What do we do now?"
"I don't know" Nathaniel replied defeatedly. "All that's left to do is give up."
(y/n)'s eyes suddenly widened in realization, as an idea came to mind.
She sat straight up.
"Why can't we?" she said.
She pulled out the blackmail note, and scanned the bold words again.
"It says we have to give him the money in the atrium within twenty four hours."
Nathaniel sat up as well, understanding what she was getting at.
The excitement grew on (y/n)'s face.
"So, what if we meet him in the atrium--"
"And pretend to comply so that he can fall right into our trap!" Nathaniel finished excitedly.
(y/n) frowned.
"Don't finish my sentences. It's just creepy."
Nathaniel hopped off the bed.
"Okay, okay, but there's still a good chance he'll get away. So, what if we set up a hidden camera in the atrium?" he said, pulling out a video camera. "That way--"
"We can play back the footage and get more clues!" (y/n) interrupted.
Nathaniel smirked at her.
"Okay, so I can't finish your sentences, but you can finish mine?"
"Yeah! If you've got a problem with it, take it to the suggestion box" (y/n) said, pointing at a trash can in the corner of the room.
And with that, she leapt off the bed and hurried out the door towards the atrium, with Nathaniel trailing behind.
