"A few minor injuries. All superficial. No one was harmed severely."
"Good."
I looked over at Jason. It was a good thing he was here. He was easily one of the best explosive experts in the school. While he had a nasty habit of accidentally causing minor detonations, no one knew bombs better than he did.
"Can you figure out what kind of charge it was packing?"
"I'll try," he said. He gestured around. "I'm not seeing much residue from the bomb itself. It was probably a tiny thing. From the size of this hole, though, I'd say the thing probably had enough juice to pack a C-4 charge. We're lucky it went off where it did. If it'd detonated beside the classrooms we could have had some serious damage. As it were, it looks like it just blew through the stone."
Max swore under his breath. "I would hardly call this lucky. I'd use intentional."
Lia looked at him. "You think they meant to set it off in a spot that would cause minimal damage?"
"It's what I would do." He nodded upwards. "Whoever planted it made sure it was right beneath a main residence wing and right above the Headmaster's office. They put it above the office so that whoever was in there would know to evacuate the students. The students would probably have felt it go off so they would already be heading out. In all that confusion, it wouldn't be hard to take a look around in peace."
"Or grab someone without drawing too much notice," I commented dryly.
"Grab someone?" Jason asked sharply. His eyes flashed to me. "You think was a kidnapping attempt?"
"The men we...detained," Max said carefully, "mentioned that they were looking for someone. A girl in our senior year. That was all we got."
"We're fairly certain whoever it was had gone out on the field exercise," I added.
Lia snorted. "So you and I are fair game, then."
I smirked at her. "Probably just you. I've got Muggle blood, remember?"
She laughed softly and the sound echoed around us. "That's true."
"The grounds are clear, everyone," Tasha said in our ears. "Unless they're somehow managing to evade all one-hundred and thirty-seven cameras we have in our security system, then I'd say that whoever decided to blow up our school is long gone."
"Jason and I will go grab that guy you knocked out," Max said to me. "You and Lia go find the teachers and tell them what we know."
"Okay. Be careful."
"Always am."
Lia and I took off in the opposite direction from the boys. As I fell into step beside her, she sent a grin my way.
"At least we'll be able to say that our senior year ended with a bang."
