MADELEINE

The corporation of the Leafs has given me an opportunity to sing the national anthem and it's scary nervous for me to think about.

Especially when I haven't sung in a while, in front of people and have vocal practices over the years and it was pretty exciting when I had the chance to do so.

But I wanted to do it. I've been thinking about it anyways. I'm sure Mason'll scream in excitement when he meets his favourite hockey players. He's a very patient boy so he's easygoing and chill to take care of and look after.

After thinking of singing the national anthem in the arena, I agreed to the opportunity and the timing couldn't be any quicker when it was time to do so.

I stepped down the blue carpet after the announcer introduced me to the audience. I waved my hand and a moment of cheering took a few minutes whilst sticks were banged against the angelic sound of the ice and board.

With a smile plastered on my face, I looked around the arena and just realized how huge the place was until my eyes fixated on the crowd and the beautiful design made.

Soon, the arena was filled with nothing but silence as it was time to sing. I raised the microphone and took a deep breath before placing the object near my lips.

I sang both songs after a few minutes passed on and eventually let the audience take over during the Canadian national anthem. The arena was filled with an angelic, synchronized noise that I didn't know I needed to hear.

I widened the smile and then clapped my hands for the appreciation as it was finished. The announcer thanked me for a bit of the opportunity given and I exited the ice rink with a huge grin for the night I wasn't able to forget.

Meanwhile, I went back to my spot in the front row and then was met with my kid, waiting on me, who kept filling up his mouth with cheddar popcorn almost completely halfway. I drank bits of my beer whilst concentrating on the game in front of us.

The movements of the Leafs and the Bruins were wild. Both fights and arguments were thrown back at each other aside every time and fans were trying to hype them up to keep the fighting going, but nothing worked until another fight broke down a few minutes later.

Then, a disbelief quiet groan escaped from my lips when my phone started to ring and buzz against my pants pocket. I picked it up and pressed the screen before my phone ended up on my ear, not even ripping my eyes watching every move of the fight.

"Hey." A familiar voice spoke and I cleared my throat, instantly knowing who it was. I smiled as I replied with a quiet 'hi' as if I was a teenager talking to a crush.

"I called you like three times, wh-oh never mind. I get it." He said and then cleared his throat, which echoed the room he's in right now.

I cursed under my breath as I gently fiddled with my fingernails. "I'm sorry, babe. I'm in a-" he cut me off.

"It's ok. I know you're in the arena watching the Leafs." I quickly pushed my brows together and swallowed harshly, turning my head to look around.

I exhaled. "How'd you know that?"

"I watched the national anthem. I didn't know you had a beautiful voice. And the background noise kinda gave it away," Jack chuckled at the last part and I rolled my eyes in response.

"Duh, have you not listened to my songs?" I responded in a mock tone and could hear him swallow loudly through the speakers. And I would tell you that, that was sexy to hear.

"A bit- But that doesn't matter. I like your voice live. I hate when singers use autotune." He replied. I nodded my head in agreement.

During the singing in my studio of making my third album, I've asked the producers and my agent not to use autotune many times and one time, they used it.

A few days later, they asked me to sing live to them and realized that I was good not to use autotune so they removed some bits of the song and changed it all up to fix it.

I widened my smile once it turned into a wicked smirk. "Lucky for you, I don't." He let out a cute laugh. "Hold on, aren't you supposed to be playing right now?" I asked him.

"Nope. The game doesn't start until at ten. So we're good." He said. "So how're you doing, babe?"

I chuckled and looked down at Mason as he banged his hand on the glass, trying to catch Nylander's attention so Mason could get the puck. "I'm really good. I just miss you." I really did. I wanted to jump in his arms again and spend as much time as possible together.

"I know, I miss you too. I wish I could come to Toronto and spend some time with you again." He whispered and I widened my smile, gently rubbing the back of my ear once my cheeks had reddened with a bright red colour.
