MADELEINE

The first time ever since Brendan and I separated a few months ago, we were unable to switch back and forth with our kid due to the hatred I held for my husband for a long time.

So we agreed that it would the best for him to stay with me instead. Although, it was a shock when Mason wanted to spend the night with his father, especially when he admitted that he disliked Brendan for what he's done to us.

Now, I was all alone in my house, wondering if Mason and Brendan had a good time in his house, even though they were in Montreal. I decided to go back to Toronto and stay there until the two comes back.

I knew this is what Mason and Brendan needed for today. They went through a rough patch and spending together time was probably a great idea. I was just happy that they finally had the chance to fix things properly. Not only for them but between Brendan and I.

We were slowly catching in time for the both of us as we agreed to slow things down and not rush like we always used to do when we were young back then.

Brendan was getting into good terms like he always used to do when we were dating as teenagers while focusing on his important priorities and Mason's.

As much as I knew, the only person he genuinely cared about was our kid. He'd do anything and I mean anything. From that moment, I just knew it when he regretted missing out for his son in the times when Mason truly needed him to be by his side. Brendan just loved him so much.

Walking up to my kitchen island, I grabbed a cup and filled it up with a water tap. Before I even drank a sip, the doorbell rang. I sighed and placed the cup on the counter.

I went towards the front door and crossed my arms together for warmth as I knew the windy weather would bang into my home.

A figure stood beside the doorframe and slowly came into light, making me drop the frown and instantly widen my eyelids. "Jack?"

He nervously smiled, his hand located at the back of his head. "Hey." I furrowed my brows and swallowed hard at the unexpected moment.

"Hi," I said between letting out a chuckle. "What are you doing here? I thought you were in New Jersey right now." I asked him.

"I am. I mean I was, but I decided to come to Toronto and...see you." He replied, building up the tension as we made eye contact, sending me shivers down my spine.

I slightly arched my back and licked the bottom of my lip, in which he flickered his gaze from my eyes to my lips. "Jack, you didn't have to do that."

He just shrugged his shoulders and gave me an adorable smile. "It's fine, anyways." Ok, then. "Um, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry." He rambled.

I frowned, once again and rubbed the side of my upper arm to soothe the coldness out. "For what?" Jack cleared his throat.

"For leaving things awkward for the both of us when I almost...you know." He answered, leaving the last part known to me when the incident almost happened a while ago.

I chuckled. "It's ok, don't worry." Looking down at the ground, I pursed my lips into a thin line and took a deep breath in. "Jack-" before I even got to start my sentence, another set of lips were attached against mine.
