"do you have to go back?", y/n's mother asked, watching her pack.

"i can't ask for more days off", she shrugged, "my boss will eat me alive"

"and i need to get the hell out before this oikawa thing blows up in my face"

but at the same time, she wanted to stay in the comfort of her own home for a bit longer. she'd missed it.

plus, she felt hungover and exhausted. she had entered the house in the morning after a humiliating walk of shame from oikawa's. hajime was home before her and had passed out immediately so he didn't really know when she got home.

her head was aching and her mouth was dry because she wasn't responsible enough. because she let herself get into this mess.

"how was oikawa?", her mother asked, causing her to look up alarmingly

"w-why?"

she narrowed her eyes in suspicion, "you took him as your date. did he have fun?"

"oh boy he sure did"

"oh, uh, yeah", she was sure her mom was a little suspicious from the look on her face.

"was he happy to see that friend of yours- what's her name- mio?"

y/n nodded mindlessly, cause it was better for her mom to think that than think anything was going on between them. her head was aching even more now to the point where she brought her fingers to massage it.

"coffee?", her mom asked, placing her hand on her shoulder to get her to sit down and take a moment.

"yes", she sighed, "i'll come down in a minute"

there was a dull ache in her chest overpowered by the one in her head. the terrifying realisation that the unrequited love era of her life might begin again.

she got back up to close her suitcase and go down to have the coffee but...

but...

"what the fuck, she can't just go around fainting like that", hajime said in an angry voice which y/n heard as distant.

it got more prominent as she tried to pry her eyes open.

"mind your language, hajime", his mom reprimanded but her voice felt strained and distracted.

when y/n finally managed to open her eyes, groaning because her head felt heavy, she was met with two people sitting beside her in her cramped room.

"hey sweetheart, hey you're awake", her mom rushed towards her, cradling her face, "you fainted"

"what... what the...", she groaned again, trying to bring her hand to her face as she squinted, "head hurts"

"i know, i know", her mom soothed, helping her sit up in bed, "you have a fever too, i think. come on, have some water"

the water made her feel a little better, making her look around with a bit more clarity. she fainted. why?

"what's wrong with you?", the stern question came from the other person in the room, her brother.

she looked at him, clearly confused and he scoffed as he continued speaking.

"how much did you eat last night? did you eat at all? and how much did you drink? you're dehydrated. at least be responsible if you're gonna drink so much."

she looked a little hurt by his words cause hajime didn't usually yell. she knew that it was a bit reckless but he didn't have to yell.

"let her breathe, hajime", their mom said, mostly just worried about her little girl.

hajime noticed the hurt in y/n's eyes and sighed, looking away. he was concerned whenever she drank excessively cause the last time she did it was...

anyway, the thing is y/n hadn't even drunk that much. she was only a little tipsy at the most. she'd probably fainted out of stress or something.

"i'm sorry", hajime said quietly as their mom went out of the room to get some medicine. and she only nodded in response.

when her mom had given her medicine, she went back to sleep.

"she's sick???", oikawa raised his eyebrows when he walked into their house that afternoon.

"no wonder she isn't answering my texts."

"she fainted in the morning and she has a fever", her mother explained, "she was supposed to leave for tokyo this morning but that's delayed now."

oikawa would be lying if he said he wasn't a little hurt by the fact that she was going to leave without telling him. but his main concern for now was the fact that she literally fainted.

"how is she now?", he questioned, trying not to sound too concerned.

"i have to leave for work", hajime announced, "i'm already late"

oikawa nodded, his attention mostly on the answer to his question.

"she's been asleep for hours now", her mom informed, "and i... never mind"

she walked into the kitchen, leaving oikawa to trail behind her.

"hmm? can i do something for you?", oikawa asked, tilting his head

"oh no", she shook her head but immediately changed her mind, "actually, do you have somewhere to be right now?"

"here", oikawa thought.

"nowhere", oikawa said.

"would you mind hanging around here for a little while?", she asked, "i have a few errands to run and i didn't wanna keep hajime from-"

"of course", he said, failing to sound less eager than he was, "that's not a big deal, auntie"

she smiled at him warmly and gratefully and gave him a few instructions before leaving.

oikawa waited about thirty seconds after she was gone before walking straight towards y/n's room.

the room was dark, understandably so because she had a headache. the fan was on and a blanket was pulled over her. a bit of her hair was visible, squished between the pillow and covers so he couldn't discern her expression.

he was going to walk towards her when he saw the screen of her phone light up. a name that he didn't recognise flashed on the screen and he didn't want to wake her up so he answered it himself, sitting on the edge of the bed.

y/n assumed it was hajime when she heard someone walk into the room. she made no effort to look over at him and she straight up ignored her phone which had been ringing.

but then she heard his voice and she wondered whether she'd finally gone insane.

"hello?", she heard oikawa say, "oh no this isn't- it's obviously not y/n."

she slightly shifted, looking over at his figure and his unmistakable brunette hair.

"she's not in tokyo yet", oikawa's voice was strained as if he was annoyed at something, "uh, i'm oikawa tooru"

he paused, looking a little smug.

"yes, that oikawa tooru"

y/n was getting an idea of who he was talking to and she felt mortified.

"she's a family friend", tooru informed, "oh, no sorry i already have an agent."

she clapped a hand over her mouth. he was speaking to her boss. cause she'd forgotten to inform him. he was speaking to HER BOSS. WHAT THE FUCK.

"she's sick, sir", she heard him say. okay maybe the situation wasn't that bad, "yes- yes, i'll let her know. thank you."

he kept the phone and turned to look at her. and she panicked and called for him.

"tooru", her voice was way worse than she thought. she wasn't even sure if he understood she was saying his name.

"hey, you're awake", he whispered, his figure shifting so that he was sitting right next to her. he stretched his legs out, back against the headboard and he pushed a bit of her messy hair out of her face.

she still felt quite weak and disoriented so she leaned her body a bit toward him.

"how do you feel?", he asked, "better?"

she did. partly because of the sleep and partly because he was here.

he didn't need to know the second part though. so she nodded, hoping he could see it in the dark.

but she felt her eyes closing again.

-•-•-•-

she looked terrible, oikawa thought as he looked over at her sleeping figure.

he didn't wanna leave. now that he was here next to her, he felt a little better too. it had been fifteen minutes since she went back to sleep and he heard her mumble something as she turned in her sleep.

she turned towards him eyes still closed, absently reaching her arm out for something. he realised, she was reaching out for him.

he obliged immediately, shifting closer to her as she wrapped her arm around his torso and hummed. he in turn wrapped his over her shoulders to hold her close.

"tooru", she whispered

"yeah?", he whispered back, his hand shifting to her hair.

but she didn't respond, content with simply clinging to him. not that he minded. in fact, he preferred it.

"why were you gonna leave without telling me?", he questioned again, surprised when he felt her draw a shaky breath.

"you won't understand", her voice was small but it was clear that it held an unfamiliar amount of hurt.

hurt that he didn't know he had caused.

oikawa's eyes fluttered shut as he tried to understand even though she said he couldn't.

but they were soon wide open when she opened her mouth to whisper in a barely audible voice.

"please don't forget about me, tooru"

when y/n's mother walked back into her room a couple of hours later, the sight before her startled her.

tooru was fast asleep with y/n comfortably nestled in his arms. his lips were touching her forehead and the room was dead silent.

she stood there for a few seconds, dumbstruck. and then she slowly backed away from the room, silently closing the door.

there was a part of her that said 'this isn't going to end well'

but there was another part of her that said 'it was about time'
