Beware, this chapter is all over the place

Elle's P.O.V.

We pulled up to the farm to see mostly everyone outside, waiting on us.
Lori ran up to Rick, and Maggie ran right past Hershel and into Glenn's arms. Hershel had a bit of a shocked look on his face, but ignored it.

"Patricia, prep the barn for surgery." Hershel instructed.

"Why? Is someone hurt?" Andrea asked.

"Who the hell is that?" T Dog asked pointing at Randall sitting in the backseat.

"That's Randall," Rick answered.

"The reason we came back so late." I added.

------------

I was sitting on the porch swing with a blanket. It was a little chilly tonight. I saw Carl walk up the steps, he walked over and sat next to me.

"Oh. Here." I said giving him his hat. He put it on his head and continued to sit there. "Did you need something?" I asked.

"No. I'm just looking at the stars." He answered.

"The stars are up there." I said pointing at the sky.

"Oh, right." He stuttered. I chuckled. "Why did you go into town?" He asked.

"I wanted to." I answered truthfully.

"But its dangerous. You guys were almost shot." Carl exclaimed.

"Yeah. It was, we were. But that's how the world is. Dangerous." I said meeting his eyes.

"Do you think I could become strong?" He asked me.

"You are strong, what are you talking about?" I asked him.

"No, I mean strong. I know how to use a gun, but my mom doesn't let me have one. I've never killed a walker. That needs to change." He explained. I thought for a minute.

"It does. Lori needs to think about this. She knows that you need to protect yourself, but you're still her little boy. She will realize that you have the strength, she doesn't want to admit that her boy is growing up." I reassured him. "My mom did it with all my brothers."

He nodded. We continued to look at the stars as I snuggled close to the fluffy blanket. I felt my eyelids start to close, and I didn't stop them.

Carl's P.O.V.

She's right. My mom will eventually realize that I can be strong enough and trusted to carry weapons. I was examining each star closely, when one caught my eye. It shined a little brighter than the rest. I remember when Mom told me it was called The North Star. If you're ever lost, you follow it. I looked over to see Elle sound asleep. She looked cozy in the warm blanket. I sat there a few more minutes before deciding to go to my tent.
I was making my way over when I saw Glenn.
"You seen Elle?" He asked.

"Asleep on the porch swing." I smiled. He chuckled and walked over to her.

Glenn's P.O.V.

I walked up the steps quietly, not wanting to wake her. She so peaceful when she sleeps, but if you wake her up at the wrong time, shes the opposite of peaceful. I carefully scooped her up while keeping her wrapped up, she stirred a little, but never woke up. I layed her down on her sleeping bag and readjusted the blanket. I zipped up the tent and layed in my own sleeping bag. I heard her soft inhale and exhale as I put my head on my pillow. It's easy to forget shes just a kid.

A FEW DAYS LATER

Elle's P.O.V.

Rick's plan is to send Randall off with a canteen far away from the farm. I understand it, but why not kill him? As saddening as it sounds, it's the right thing to do. What if his group comes after us? Having him here at all is dangerous.

I needed to get my mind off of things, so I grabbed my knife and went into the woods. I made sure nobody could see me. I also remembered to hide my tracks, but enough so I still wouldn't get lost. Walking through the woods, it was quiet. My last time in the woods when it was this quiet, I almost died. When I was hunting with Daryl, we made conversation, so it wasn't too bad. I like Daryl. He seemed like an asshole at first, after he found out about Merle. But hes a good guy, whether or not he wants to show it. I trust him with my life. I was interrupted from these thoughts by a branch snapping. I was quick to pull my knife out and hold it up in defense. I scanned the area, looking and listening for little things. My eyes finally landed on the source. Daryl. He was hunting. He hasn't seemed to notice me yet, so I ducked. I was quiet while i quickly climbed the nearest tree. I could hear him getting closer. He was a quiet walker, but i could hear him readjusting his crossbow.

"Come on out!" He yelled. I didn't want to get in trouble so I stayed in the tree hoping he would leave. "I've been following your tracks. Seemed to cover em up pretty well!" He said. He didn't know it was me, I could hear it in his voice. I sighed and gave up. I climbed back down to reveal myself. Daryl sighed and brought his crossbow down.

"I didn't wanna cover them completely in case I got lost." I mentioned.

"What are you doing out here?" He asked.

"I wanted to get away." I shrugged.
"You seem to wanna do that a lot." He observed. I nodded.

"Lately, there's been a lot if reasons. You hunting?" I asked changing the subject. He nodded. "Can I tag along?" I offered.
"Okay." He said. We quietly began walking, hoping a squirrel or rabbit crosses out path. As if on cue, a rabbit hops by and a flinched a little at the sudden sound of Daryl shooting it. He saw me looking as he went to pick it up. "You wanted to learn right?" He said motioning his crossbow. I smiled.

We walked some more and saw a fat rabbit sniffing the ground. At least someone is eating well. Maybe if we kill it, we'll eat well, too. Daryl handed me the crossbow and it was a lot heavier than it looked. He helped readjust it to be comfortable.

"You look through this scope," he started. I nodded as a signal to continue. "Like a gun, you pull the trigger when you're ready." He said. I took a deep breath and exhaled. I pulled the trigger. I shot the rabbit.

"Knockback is strong." I chuckled. Daryl walked over and picked up our meal.
"You're pretty good with that thing." He said before I handed it back to him. We continued our hunting trip, and we decided to head back with what we had. We had 9 squirrels and 3 rabbits. We were swerving through the trees when a group of walkers came out of nowhere. I pulled my knife out.

"Keep close." Daryl warned me. I nodded and started stabbing the walkers. One came up behind me and grabbed a hold of my shoulder. I tried my hardest to keep it front biting me, while using my foot to keep another away from me.

"Daryl." I said. He stabbed the walker and I felt the blood hit my neck. I stabbed the walker I was holding back and took a deep breath. Ever since I was shot, losing my breath came pretty easy.

"Were you bit? Scratched?" He asked searching. I shook my head. He continued looking over me anyways.

"Don't tell Glenn about that." I pleaded. Daryl nodded in agreement as we made our way across the huge field. He went to his tent to start skinning the animals and I went inside to clean up before Glenn saw me. I grabbed a new flannel and went to the bathroom. After changing my flannel, you couldn't even tell what happened. I threw my bloody shirt in the wash and was greeted by Rick. He was covered in cuts and bruises. I saw Shane dragging Randall back to the barn.

"You guys were supposed to-" I started. Rick cut me off.

"He knows where the farm is. He went to school with Maggie." He explained.

"So what's with the bruises?" I asked. Did Randall do it? Maybe Shane. Apparently, Lori is pregnant, and its Shane's kid, because they thought Rick was dead.

"Things got out of control. There were walkers. That's all." He assured me. I nodded, but I wasn't buying it. I walked outside and sat on the porch swing, letting the breeze run over my face. It wasn't too chilly, but just right for autumn in Georgia. I took sometime to look over the land. There was the barn, the horse stables, tons of grass, and in the distance, a small pond. This place was beautiful, the Greene family was lucky to have lived here.

"Haven't seen you for a few hours." I heard Glenn's voice say. I turned to him.

"Went hunting with Daryl." I answered. Technically, I wasn't lying. "Learned how to use the crossbow. Definitely not gonna get used to the kickback though." I chuckled.

"I miss this." Glenn said sitting next to me. He must've seen the confused look on my face. "Relaxing. Not having to worry."

"Me too." I said putting my head on his shoulder. He layed his head against mine. I remembered what he said almost 2 weeks ago.

"Glenn, what exactly is it you're so afraid of?"

"Losing you."

I smiled. "I'm afraid if losing you too." I said out loud.
