Soul mate AU - Where you actually have a compass instead of a clock, and it leads you to where your soul mate should be.

Dark Reunion has yet to make a move, the world is safe for the time being thanks to the Jet Black Wings. Humanity need not know who he is, their safety and happiness is all the thanks he could ever receive. Sure, it may be lonely working as a hero, fighting off evil wherever he could, but he knew he wasn't exactly alone. No, there was someone out there destined to be with him, the Jet Black Wings, and fight alongside him against the forces of evil.

A chuckle escaped him, as he glanced down at his wrist. The small compass sat there with the arrow pointing Southwest and occasionally moving back and forth, indicating that his soul mate was walking around. Kaidou has known about his soul mate since he was a child, but never really paid much attention to it. His wrapping often hid the compass from plain sight, so no one other than himself knew it was even there.

It wasn't until recently that he started to notice it, only because one of his classmates brought up the topic. Someone in their class had bumped into their soul mate while on vacation, and now they were sending each other letters and emails. He seemed so happy, boasting and bragging about their soul mate, how perfect and cute they were in every shape, size and form.

That had gotten Kaidou thinking, was his soulmate also perfect and cute? Was his soul mate someone worthy of him? Did his soul mate often stare down at their wrist and follow the moving arrow, wondering what he was like, what he was doing or what he was thinking about?

Having the compass on his wrist, he had never really paid attention to it, but after seeing how happy his classmate was, he couldn't help but wonder about the person the small needle pointed to. Every night he thought about them, and as soon as he got home from school and cram school he unwrapped his right hand and glanced down at the compass. Eventually his mother had started to notice his quiet behaviour, and would often hint that his soul mate would want someone smart with high goals.

He knew his mother was just saying this to get him to study, but what if she was right? He didn't want to disappoint his soul mate, he was the great Jet Black Wings, a hero who needed to be there for the love of his life. With that as motivation he did everything he could to study and become a strong man, a great hero that could fight off all of his enemies and grow in power. Dark Reunion would not lay a hand on his soul mate, he'd never allow it, not even if they bring out their newly made virus the Dragoonium Bloodlust of Death that will cause anyone infected to have all of their joints dislocated and bodies to wither away slowly.

"Oi runt," Nendou called out, wrapping his arm around Kaidou's shoulders and pulling the shorter male close. "What's wrong, you're so quiet all of a sudden, having girlie problem?"

Growling, Kaidou slapped Nendou's arm off of him and stepped back, sending the taller male a scowl. "Let go of me you idiot and I don't have girl problems," he mumbled, before spotting the all to familiar compass on Nendou's wrist. "Oh wow, so even someone as stupid and ugly as you can have a soul mate."

Nendou blinked in confusion at first, before glancing down at his wrist. The compass' needle was pointing Northeast, the complete opposite direction where the three of them had been going, and the needle was slowly moving back and forth, indicating that Nendou's soul mate was moving. The compass on the taller male's wrist was something Kaidou never noticed, he had always assumed that Nendou just didn't have one considering the fact that he wasn't all that likeable and never really mentioned it. Kaidou was sure that Nendou was one of those rare cases where he had no soulmate, thus giving him the 'freedom of choice' that so few had.

"Oh yeah you're right..." Nendou mumbled, before showing off his wrist with a bright smile on his face. "Would you look at that!"

"How could you not notice it, you idiot!" Kaidou exclaimed, wondering how the taller of the three could be so stupid as to not realize something so important as their soul mate compass. Heaving a sigh, Kaidou lifted his right hand and placed it upon his face to cover his left eye. He did a quick pose before turning to a quiet Saiki, who was staring at them with a blank expression on his face. "So Saiki, have you noticed your own soul mate compass lately? What do you think, is your soul mate out there waiting for you?"

The pink haired male simply nodded, before lifting his own right hand and showing off the compass upon his wrist. The compass was moving back and forth between North and West, almost rapidly as though his soul mate couldn't sit still. He looked so indifferent to the compass, and he never really acknowledged it. 'So even Saiki has a soul mate, not that I'm surprised or anything. Nendou was the biggest surprise here...'

Seeing them Kaidou heaved another sigh, his shoulders sagging as he glanced down at his shoes. "So we all have a soul mate and in different directions..." He mumbled, sending Nendou a glare who was ignoring him in favour of trying to follow the needle on his compass. "I'm... Kinda worried about mine..."

"Don't you worry," Nendou tried to encourage, placing his arm around Kaidou's shoulder once more. "I'm sure your soul mate won't care if you're short and weird and-"

"Like you're one to talk!" The light blue haired male growled, trying hard to push Nendou away from him. "Ugh, get off of me you idiot, where are you dragging me?!" Being distracted the two failed to notice the way Saiki stood a few feet away from them, heaving a sigh in annoyance before glancing down at his wrist. Without a word, he shook his head and with a flick of his wrist he aported something into Kaidou's schoolbag.

Hopefully Kaidou will appreciate what his friend had done for him.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Cram school three days a week plus three hours of studying at home, it was so much work for one teen, but it kept his mother happy and off of his back. There were times when Kaidou wanted nothing more than to skip cram school, but if his mother found out he'd be in some serious trouble. Then again she was a demon woman, and he was a hero that could stop her at any given moment, so he only listened to her because he was a kind hero who showed mercy.

But maybe just this once, ditching cram school would be a good idea. They won't call his mother, he knew they normally don't care if you skip out one day without telling them, they're not like a regular school.

And that's exactly what he did, which led him to his current situation. He was lost, and he had no idea where to go to get back to his neighbourhood and hide at home until his mother retuned later that night from her friend's house. Somehow while running away from the cram school, he found himself in the next town over, and no one wanted to stop and help him out.

With a sigh he walked around town, taking a look at all of the stores and sights he's never seen before. All of this was new to him, and it made him want to come back here with his friend. Saki, not Nendou

Saki was someone he could trust, his side kick and someone who could appreciate him and his powers. If he brought Saki there, the two of them could scope out the place and see where Dark Reunion and their minions were hiding. No doubt Dark Reunion would pick a place that was near where he lived, and where they could still be pretty much hidden knowing that he wouldn't bother to come to that town.

As he walked, he failed to see the person in front of him, causing him to bump into them in the middle of the street. Falling backwards Kaidou fell on his butt with a loud thud, the person he bumped into dropping the items they had in their hands. "O-Oh I-I'm so sorry!" Kaidou apologized, getting up and helping the other person pick up the books they had in their hands along with both of their school bags. "M-M-My humblest a-a-apologies! I-I-I wasn't watching where I was going!"

"Y-Yeah, it's fine." The other person groaned, standing up and rubbing their aching head. "Just, be careful next time alright?"

"I-I will!" Kaidou exclaimed, handing the person, a boy, back his belongings. Somewhere along the way his wrapping had broken and soon, it revealed the compass on his wrist. Kaidou, however, didn't seem to notice and just ran the other way, blushing profusely and ignoring the other boy's calls for him to wait. His face was flushed a cherry red, and he wanted nothing more than to get away from the crowded area. He wasn't embarrassed, not at all, the Jet Black Wings was never embarrassed of anything. He, however, couldn't allow himself to show weakness, especially in front of a civilian in an unknown area where Dark Reunion could be lurking. In the end he didn't run all that far, stopping just a short ways from the place to a bus stop.

Huffing and panting, Kaidou sat himself down on the bench next to an elderly woman, lifting his arm to wipe the mild sweat he had built up during his short run. That was close, what if that boy had been someone from his cram school who was also ditching? He would have been in some serious trouble, especially since his cram school teacher seemed to hate him.

No doubt the bastard was a minion for Dark Reunion.

"My my, seems like your soul mate is nearby." The elderly lady suddenly announced, letting out a soft chuckle as she moved closer towards Kaidou. "E-Eh?" Kaidou asked, blinking in confusion. "Wh-What do you mean? H-How would you know?"

His confused expression only made the woman giggle, before she lifted her hand and pointed towards the compass on his wrist. "Why, your compass of course!" She explained. "Ever since you got here, it's been pointing to the direction you came from. When it makes slight, jerky movements like that and glows, it means your soul mate is nearby."

'My soul mate?' Kaidou thought with a soft gasp. 'Could she mean... The one I bumped into?' Thinking back on it, he hadn't really gotten a good look at the boy he had bumped into, and if his soul mate had been nearby they would have ran up to him. Maybe bumping into him was the boy's way of getting his attention? It does seem like the only logical solution to him. Without a moment's hesitation Kaidou stood and turned to run back, following the arrow on his compass. He made sure to shout his thanks to the elderly woman from over his shoulder, before making his way down the street.

With each twist and turn, the compass began to dim, and soon it pointed in a completely opposite direction, going at a fast speed. 'Oh no...' Kaidou thought, realizing that he might have been too late. 'They're probably in a bus or in a car, or even on the train with how fast they suddenly changed direction.'

By now it had gotten dark, around the time his cram school would have ended. The streets began to fill with all kinds of people, ranging from students, to teachers, to even businessmen and women heading home or someplace else. Glancing around with hopeless eyes, Kaidou was surprised to see he had actually found his way out of there and right at the street where his cram school building stood.

"Oh no..." He mumbled, feeling his eyes sting slightly with tears, as his shoulders drooped down. Many people passed by him, sparing him a glance before ignoring him completely. A sniffle escaped him, his tears threatening to fall before he lifted his hand to furiously wipe his eyes dry. He wasn't going to cry, he wasn't going to cry over such a loss.

Maybe he couldn't find his soul mate today, but he'll find them soon. He, as the Jet Black Wings, swears it!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Once again, the Jet Black Wings was able to escape that dreaded prison called Cram School. The true demon mother would have no clue that he was not there, and he can finally resume to finding the love of his life.

Rushing down the street, the Jet Black Wings was able to rush through the endless crowd. With his compass as his guide, he tried everything he could to follow it thoroughly. The many civilians on the street eyed him, no doubt struck in awe at the sight of him. Yes, he was very fast and a striking sight for sore eyes, but he had no time to waste on them. He was on a mission, a mission he needed to complete. It was a life and death situation, so there was no time to waste.

He had made it to the next town over, and his eyes began to search the streets. Dark Reunion will not stop him today, he will be sure to keep them at bay so as to not put his soul mate into any danger.

The compass spun, and pointed towards the opposite direction, causing him to stop in his tracks. The voice of that elderly woman, that kind old Mage, rang in his ears. Her message echoed within his mind, reminding him of what the signs were for when he was near his soul mate

'Oh Jet Black Wings, you must be cautious of the Dark Reunion. You must find your soul mate as soon as possible, least they be taken away from you forever. Hear me now Jet Black Wings, when the compass begin its jerky movements and glows, your beloved is nearby.'

Yes, he will heed the Mage's warnings and continue to search, following the compass and growing closer and closer to his beloved. After what felt like centuries, running around in circles, he took notice of the way his compass began its jerky movements. 'I'm close!' He thought, running toward the direction the needle of his compass is pointing to. 'Don't worry my beloved, for I, the Jet Black Wings, will come to find you at last!'

Making it to a certain park, he looked around at the multitude of people that were there. Glancing down at the compass on his wrist, he watched as the needle pointed forward, staying completely still but still continuing to glow brightly. He was close, he could feel it, and he was sure that his soul mate could also feel it. Excitement began to fill him, along with terror. Would his soul mate even want him? Would his soul mate be okay with him?

Wait what was he thinking, of course his soul mate would want him, he's the hero Jet Black Wings, who will take down Dark Reunion and save humanity.

But that small feeling of terror still got to him.

Swallowing hard, Kaidou did what he could to push down any and all feelings he held of nervousness and fear. He tried to be courageous as he followed the needle, head down and eyes on his compass, not realizing that he was about to bump into someone. It wasn't until he made contact with said person that he realized he should have been watching where he was going. Fortunately he didn't fall on his butt, and as soon as he caught his footing he bowed as deeply as he could and stuttered an apology. His cheeks burned red with embarrassment, as his ears picked up the sound of a giggle.

"It's you again," the voice said, before a hand was placed on his shoulder. "I was looking for you, also you don't have to bow, it's okay."

Swallowing the lump in his throat, Kaidou slowly stood up straight, all that confidence he had at the beginning was now long gone. Lifting his head he met with bright, [e/c] eyes, staring back at him with a soft smile. "Hi there," the boy before him greeted kindly. "You ran away from me yesterday, it's nice to see you again."

Kaidou felt his heart skip a beat and time stopping, eyes not once tearing themselves away from the boy standing before him. [H/c] hair, [e/c] eyes, soft smile, kind expression and wearing an SK Academy uniform. This was him, this was his soul mate, the one he'd be spending the rest of his life with fighting against evil side by side. Kaidou could swear there was a glow around his beloved, almost like a halo covering his whole body. Roses and the sound of angels were in the background, and Kaidou was sure his soul mate was even more beautiful than Teruhashi.

"You okay? Your face is beet red." The boy asked, letting out a soft laugh when Kaidou snapped out of it, spattering gibberish and what sounded like an apology. "Well, you dropped your notebook last time. I know I shouldn't have read it but I wanted to know who it belonged to so that I could return it, and I kinda liked it. Are you planning to be a writer in the future?"

"M-M-My notebook?" Kaidou asked with a stutter, glancing down at the book in his soul mate's hand. He was sure his heart stopped beating at the sight, and felt the blood drain from his face.

It was his notebook with notes on Dark Reunion's history.

With a screech, Kaidou snatched the book from the boy's hand and held it close to his chest, his face returning to normal and practically radiating heat from how embarrassed he was at the moment. This was it, he had ruined everything with his Soul mate and they had only just met. Everyone who read that notebook would give him a weird look and stop talking to him, or make fun of him mercilessly. Not that he could blame them, learning about Dark Reunion would cause anyone with a weak mind to fear for their lives. It was a good thing they left, it would ensure their safety.

Still, the solitude of it all was sort of painful.

His soul mate probably read what was inside and didn't want anything to do with him anymore, most likely filled with disappointment no doubt. He could handle losing some friends- I mean comrades, but he doesn't know how he'd handle losing his soul mate.

"Hey," a soft voice spoke, as a hand placed itself on his shoulder, giving him an encouraging squeeze. "You don't have to be embarrassed, I'm sorry I read your private notebook..."

'Oh no,' Kaidou thought, lifting his head to see the saddened expression upon his soul mate's face. 'I made him sad!' Panicking, Kaidou quickly stood and began to stutter. He was gathering the attention of those around him, but he couldn't care less at the moment. Normally he'd apologize for the ruckus and run away, but his soul mate was more important. "N-N-NO! N-N-No i-it's fine! I-It's just that not that many people a-are okay with learning about th-the dark secrets and history that surrounds Dark Reunion!"

The boy stared at him in surprise for a moment, as Kaidou's heart beat against his chest so hard he was sure it would break through his rib cage. After a few more seconds of silence, the boy finally let out a soft chuckle, before reaching out to gently pet Kaidou's soft, sky blue locks. "I understand, Dark Reunion sounds like an evil organization."

"Th-They are!" Kaidou quickly exclaimed, his voice cracking slightly before clearing his throat for a minute before explaining, serious expression on his face. "Dark Reunion is out for world domination, creating many vile creatures and recruiting many into their organization, and only I, the Jet-Black Wings can save the world from their reign of terror."

"Well then, Jet-Black Wings sama," the boy said with a soft smile. "It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, I'm [l/n] [y/n]. Thank you for protecting the world against their evil." With that being said, he gave the blue haired male a short bow, ignoring the giggling and coos they were receiving from those passing by. Kaidou's cheeks began to burn in embarrassment, as he swallowed hard, taking in the sight of his soul mate standing before him. He could tell they weren't pitying him or just humouring him like a few people have done so in the past.

He was genuine, and his eyes told him that he had no problems with
