A N A Ï S

It was currently Tuesday and I walked lazily to my locker, Evelyn was standing there talking to Lucas. I walk up to them and mumbled a greeting. Cohen being the childish person he is told me that he wasn't about to apologize to Dante at all, even if it meant having to go on a vacation with his family for the weekend. Honestly how petty can someone be, Jesus.

So I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I placed the books I didn't need into my locker and from my peripheral vision I saw Dante walk into the school building, his school bag slung over one shoulder and his head looking down at his phone, his brown hair looked a bit wet as it flopped over his face.

As if sensing that someone was looking at him, he lifts his head up and his eyes meet mine. It then shifts to Lucas and Evelyn before he looks away, his eyes honestly looked dead, like they had no life in them. But then again, we're talking about Dante here, he doesn't have a life to begin with.

"I'll be back in a sec" I state to Evelyn and Lucas before speed walking to Dante, he was now stationed at his locker, putting things into it.

"Dante" I call his name out and he looks over his shoulder for a second before turning back to facing his locker.

"What?" He asks.

"There's a problem, My mother planned a vacation with--" I start of but I get cut off by Dante closing his locker shut and turns to me, his back leaned against the locker door and his hands shoved into the pockets of his sweats.

"I'm not going, so you don't need to worry about anything Amanda" Dante sends me a tight smile my way before leaning off the locker and walking off.

Amanda.

Fucking prick.

"Okay, that's good. That's an amazing thing" I mumble to myself walking back to Lucas and Evelyn. They both were looking at me like I was out of my mind.

"What?" I look at them in confusion and readjust my bag straps over my shoulder.

"Why did you just talk to that dude? I thought you were trying to not talk to him to not get Cohen mad?" Evelyn simply asks.

"I needed to talk to him because my oh so amazing mother decided to book a vacation with his family to sort out the problems Cohen and him have. but Cohen already mentioned that he wasn't about to apologize, so I needed to ask Dante to sort things out with Cohen. But the good news is that he isn't going." I smile explaining the whole thing to both of them.

Before they could respond the bell rings and we all decided to head to our classes. Great, lets learn. Fun.

Lunch rolled by pretty quick and I was currently sitting in the usual spot under the tree, we all were minding own business when I suddenly saw Cohen coming out of the school building, heading straight for his car.

"Cohen!" I yell speed walking up to him.

"What's wrong?" He asks stopping in his tracks.

"Dante said he isn't coming for the vacation" I state gleefully.

"Great, are you sure he's not coming?" Cohen inquires.

"Yeah, he said he isn't coming. So there's nothing to worry about. But you guys would need to sort out whatever you have sooner or later Cohen, I know this isn't my business but I feel kind of liable for you guys not talking," I utter.

"I also don't understand why you forgave me but you haven't forgiven him." I look up at him, my eyebrows knit together.

"Because you're my sister" He simply states.

"It doesn't matter if I'm you're sister Cohen, he's still your best friend" I reason.

"I'll talk to him when I feel like I won't rip his head out" He grumbles before walking to his car and driving off.

Well.

I walk back to where Lucas and Evelyn were and they just look at me.

"What?" I chuckle sitting back down near the tree.

"What happened?" Lucas asks.

"Nothing, I was just telling him about how Dante wasn't coming for the vacation" I shrug. Evelyn and Lucas both nod their heads before we continue eating. Evelyn cracking not so funny jokes in between.

Life isn't a piece of shit anymore, I take that back.

School was currently over, I haven't spoken to Dante at all other than that one time in the morning, and that too he didn't really say much. Which is actually amazing.

I was a bit confused cause Dante usually comes over at lunch trying to make me help him sort things out with Cohen and him. He seemed a bit off today, but knowing him it's probably cause he hasn't gotten laid in a fat minute.

I walked through the front door of my house and I saw Mum sitting on the high chair in the kitchen, as usual her hair was in a a perfect low bun.

Once she hears my footsteps she turns around and looks at me. A smile coming onto her face.

"Anaïs sweetie! freshen up, we're about to go out" She says.

Out? with her? yeah, no thanks.

"Out? where?" I ask her running a hand through my hair.

"To the salon, now now, no need to worry you're not cutting your hair. But maybe I was wondering you could change it up a bit? And if you don't want to that's okay, we can still go out and spend some time together" She says standing up from her chair.

Do I really want to spend time with her? She's pretty sus right now.

"Uh, Yeah sure. Give me a few minutes" I nod my head and walk up the stairs, I took a quick shower to get all the sweat off my body before walking down again.

"Ready? Let's go" She smiles and places her hand on the small of my back, guiding me to the front door.

"Maybe you decided on what you want to do to your hair? maybe you can change up your style a bit, if you want to, of course" She looks at me and pulls out the driveway once we both got in.

"Uh yeah, I've been wanting to dye my hair silver for some time so I'll probably do that" I shrug, maybe she's trying to spend some quality mother, daughter time with me.

We all know how this is going to end up though, both of us getting into an argument over the smallest thing and then ignoring each other all over again.

After around 25 minutes we reach the salon and we walk inside.

"I've been here multiple times, they have pretty experienced hairdressers." She looks at me and smiles.

Okay now she's super duper suspicious.

We saw a lady walk up to us and my Mum told me to tell the hairdresser what I wanted. I sit down on the chair and explain the way I wanted my hair to be dyed and she nodded her head with a polite smile on her face before she started doing her thing.

Once she was done I look in the mirror and smiled, I like it. Part of my head near the ear was dyed a silver colour on both sides. My mum walks up and looks at it before smiling.

"It looks nice" She nods her head, a small smile on her face before she pays the lady and we walk out.

Why's she so kind to me? I'm confused.

"Do you have any bikinis? I hope you know we're staying at a beach resort this weekend" She says looking at me.

"I have some, we don't need to buy any" I shake my head.

"Let's buy just one more?" She looks at me and then we drive to the mall, oh gosh.

we walk into a store and I didn't really look around for any swim costumes because I already had some.

"Anaïs! come look at this, It'll look nice on your skin complexion" My mum calls my name out and places the red colour bikini against my skin.

"Mum, I don't need any. I already have 2 at home" I shake my head.

"Well why don't you buy another one? Just incase?" She looks at me.

I blink at her for a second, shocked about how she was talking to me.

She's talking to me like she actually cares.

I sigh and nod my head and she smiles at me and walks to the counter to pay. The bikini did look nice, it had a scalloped bikini top and a matching red scalloped bottom.

We walk out the store, me holding the bag with the costume in it, I glance at her for a second in utter confusion. Why is she acting like this?

We got into the car in silence but she doesn't turn the car on, I look at her with knit eyebrows and she sighs and turns to me.

"Anaïs honey, I've been noticing the way you're looking at me in confusion and I was just thinking and I want you to be comfortable telling me things, I want to be the mother and friend you can rely on. I know we don't usually get along that well, but I want to change that. I'm trying to make things right between us because I never really realized—excuse my language—how much of a bitch I am to you. I know saying sorry wouldn't fix anything but I'll try my very best to prove to you that I'm apologetic for everything I've put you through." She finishes, she wasn't really looking at me, she was looking at the gear stick that was between us.

She looks up at me when there was silence for a few seconds before I crack a smile.

"I know how we get into arguments a lot, but I too am willing to try make things better between us. Thank you," I say and did the thing I never expected myself to do.

I hugged her.

It may not seem like a big deal but I don't even remember the last time I gave my mother a hug, probably when I was in elementary school. She freezes for a few seconds before she wraps her arms around me and rubs my back.

"Let's go get some ice cream, it's pretty hot out today." I smile pulling away from the hug. She laughs and nods her head before pulling out the parking lot of the mall.

Things are slowly but surely falling back into place and I'm here for it.
