Love can touch just one time

And last for a lifetime...

56. she scoffed

'I did not just walk up in my tired form only to see James and Rae sucking faces!'

James and Rae both did a collective sigh when they parted from each other, and glanced at the dramatic Simon who not only gasped but his reaction brought the entire crew towards them.

Alex was shell shocked too, and his expressions were exactly those of Janet, mouth ajar and gawking at the duo like they were creatures of a different planet. Imane who stood behind them giggled, and Rae averted her gaze, nervously, James all the more nervous than her.

'What?' Alex walked in, eyeing James and then Rae, 'What? When? How come I didn't get the memo?'

'You snooze, you lose, baby.' Imane shrugged, chuckling at Alex's offended expressions.

'How does she know and I don't?' Alex whined, pointing his finger at Imane. 'What kind of friendship is this?' He questioned James who visibly was lost for words.

'Yea exactly!' Janet vouched in, annoyed she wasn't informed. 'Even I don't know!'

'Does it count that even I wasn't informed?' Simon added, wanting to be a part of the uninformed gang.

'It does.' Alex nodded, Simon fist pumped his hand in the air. 'You're with us now.'

Rae shook her head, stepping in, 'Stop it you guys.' She stood in front of James, who wanted to just leave than be under their glares. 'Why is everyone here so dramatic? Like for real!' She looked at Imane with a death glare to stop laughing and help her.

'Yea. And James and Rae both need to figure out a lot of things before committing to everyone.' Imane said, helping Rae in this one.

'Thanks Imo.'

Everyone looked at Imane now, 'Yea. No boo, I got your back.' She smiled and then looked at Alex and Janet, 'And it's only fair that they told only few people they're closest to, you know. Not everyone else.' The moment she said that, Rae face palmed herself and Alex and Janet gasped, offended even more.

Both of them and Simon moved out, or rather stomped out and Rae glared at Imane again who shrugged with a suppressed giggle. 'What?'

'Get the fuck out of here, before I kill you.'

And Imane needn't be told twice. When everyone left, the duo now alone, both of them sighed looking at each other with the same question.

What were they?

'Are you thinking what I'm thinking?' She asked as she glanced at James who was leaning against the kitchen counter, looking at her.

'Maybe. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?'

'Probably.' She shrugged, sitting up on the kitchen marble stone. 'I've to leave in less then five hours, now.' She said softly, her voice low and meek.

James took a deep breath, the fact that she'd be gone very soon wasn't just acceptable to him. But then, this is what they had gotten themselves into.

'I'm not going to beat around the bush, this time.' He said, locking his gaze with her. 'I love you Rae, and I know I am willing to do this, even if you're in a different continent.' Rae silently looked at him, her heart always warming up whenever he spoke to her this way. 'And to be honest, I'm pretty sure I am not going to get another Rachel Hofstetter for me. Because, Momo is right, I'm too stubborn, rude and a A rated introverted asshole for any girl to even like me.'

Rae chuckled, shaking her head, 'True. I hated you so much at the start, that I just wanted to Babushka you.'

'Yes. You hating me so much that you wanted to slaughter me is exactly what I wanna hear now.' He teased, and Rae managed a chuckle.

'Can you blame me?' She scoffed, rolling her eyes. 'You were such an ass.'

'Ignoring that,' James smiled, eyeing her lovingly, 'As much as I wanna do this, with the five hour flights and weekend rushes and the constant need of face timing and time zone differences, and everything else that comes with it, I don't want you to be burdened with all these.' James walked towards her, his hands on either side of the counter, and his towering figure comforting her. 'You're a streamer, a really good, amazing content creator who has to constantly be on their toes with a hundred other things. You and me both know that.' Rae sighed, keeping her head on his chest, his beating heart now anxiously in rhythm. 'And then, with all these commitments, I don't want you to be under the pressure of having a very tiring relationship with me. That's the last thing I wanna do, to be honest.'

As much as she hated it, James was right. They were literally across the state, away from each other with a five hour flight distance and both their careers on a different route.

'And then, risking everything else against Thomas and your friendship.' James kept his head on her soft hair, enveloping her in a warm hug, 'I love you, but I'm not worth your friendship with Thomas. He'll never be okay with us, I know him. He's a very socially awkward wholesome guy who'd be uncomfortable but won't ever let others know. And I've done things to him I'm not proud off. And he'd hate me all the more for stealing you from him.'

Rae hugged him, burying her face in his scent and trying to ponder on his words. Everything he told were facts, straight facts and everything she wanted right now was lies, not the truth. James sighed, tears welling in his eyes as he held her, 'We could try, Rae. But, am I worth over an already stressed life and a wholesome friendship?'

He held back his tears, smiling as he broke the hug and kissed Rae's soft hair. 'Better take the wine else Alex will be all the more pissed, eh?'

And he left, covering up his emotions with his happy face but Rae could feel it, because her tears dropped on the floor.

This was it then.

All this for a painful goodbye?

_

'Bye, BBs.' Imane cried hugging both Janet and Rae, 'God, I'm going to miss you guys!'

Rae and Janet took turns to exchange pleasantries with Alex and Simon, trying their best to not cry and meet up soon again. But Simon shed a tear, hugging the girls, 'I'm going to miss you two.'

'Such a drama queen!' Rae chuckled, Janet giggling and they hugged him.

James who stood a little far smiled at them, his eyes for the first time not on Rae, because he didn't want to remember her leaving. He'd rather have the image of his shorthead in his clothes than this. Or when she challenged him in a pool game and stubbornly lost. Or when she slept in his arms.

Anything but this.

'Alright my sweethearts.' Alex beamed, 'I am going to miss you two.'

'Yea.' Imane smiled sadly at Rae, 'But someone's going to miss you more.'

All of them saddened, Rae was managing a smile but she really wanted to cry. She wanted to just be with James, for ever.

'Make the goodbye count, Rae.' Janet gave her a shoulder squeeze, 'I'll be waiting in, yeah? Let's go Mika.'

Rae nodded, already teary eyed, and while Janet moved in with her bags, and Mika, Imane and the others left the scene as Rae walked closer to James. She was completely wrapped in a warm wool sweater, over her jeans and yet she was feeling cold, and teary and heartbroken.

'Hey?'

'Hey.' He smiled, not looking down at her at all. 'All ready to leave?'

She shook her head, her teary eyes not helping her case at all. 'Not even a bit. I'm never been this uneasy and uncomfortable ever in my life.' She comforted herself by warming her arms, but she was shivering from her anxieties and thoughts and not the weather.

James sighed, still managing a smile as he shuffled through his pocket and got out a packet, giving it to Rae.

'Sour patch gummies?' She said, half chuckling, half crying. 'Yes, that's exactly what I needed.'

They both looked at each other, one last time. He wanted to peep in those brown eyes and keep the memory of those two intriguing eyes forever with him. 'Goodbye, Rae.'

Aah, those dark beautiful eyes.

Both of them wanted to enclose the distance, both of them wanted to kiss but they couldn't.

Because that would just make this even harder.

'I'll see you around right?' She asked, gulping, hoping and in vain.

He took a step back, 'I'll see you. Livestreams, vods and vlogs and twitter feuds.' He said, tears blurring her vision as he faded, 'And a little Instagram feed too.'

'I'm sorry, but I'm too busy for a viewer as you.' She teased, as James smiled, that heartwarming smile which tugged at her heartstrings. 'Bye.'

'Smile for me Rae, because I'll be always watching.' And with a lot of strength, James pulled himself away from her, walking out without a glance.

And Rae watched a piece of her heart walk away too. The moment she walked in the airport, Janet waited with her arms open and Rae hugged her, tears gushing down immediately.

'I love him, I really do.'

'I know baby.' Janet comforted her, and rubbed her back. 'And my mother always told me, that if someone's meant to be yours, they'll always come back to you. No matter what.'

_

'Hi chat.' She smiled at the people expectantly waiting for her since forever now. 'Yes, I missed you'll too. Ngl ngl.'

The chats poured in, with thousands of questions and wishes. She answered few, skipped many and beamed at her loyal fanbase.

'Yes, we're playing proximity today with everyone, I know for sure there's Amigops, but I don't know who else.' She adjusted her hair, sitting back. 'It'll be fun.'

Although she tried, she couldn't really get herself to smile heartily, and she sighed looking at the chat. Her mind was still on her mobile and the text she had sent, awaiting an answer to it.

Her heartbeats pacing rapidly, and her fingers nervously playing with each other.

'Thanks for all the new members and donos.' She read the screen, 'And Amy, thank you for the 25$ dono, I'm glad I make your day better.'

She joined the discord, tiredly answered and greeted her friends as she set her Among Us play.

Then she saw the message flash on her screen, taking her by surprise.

Sour Patch Gummies became a member

Rae sat back, ignoring the discord call and the game she was in and held her breath, wondering what she was assuming was right. Sykkuno had killed her in the game, knowing she was AFK but Rae didn't care about that as much as she did of what came next.

Sour Patch Gummies donated 200$

"Babushka. Rae. Babushka."

And Rae scoffed, her worries washing away as she let out a small chuckle. 'Hmm.' She looked at the screen, her ghost following Sykkuno's imposter bean figure. 'Let's Babushka this.'

Near, far, wherever you are

I believe that, the heart does, go on
