Earlier that afternoon, Kenma left. Again. He had been quite busy for the past few days, and he didn't tell you where he's going either.

You were left in the unit with the cats that were busy playing among themselves while you lounge in the couch, hardly paying attention to the movie playing in the television because your mind was on something else. But before you can entertain your thoughts, you heard your phone ringing.

At first you thought it was Kenma, but when you read the name written on the screen, you realized who it was.

"Kuroo-san?" you muttered, contemplating whether to answer it or not. You looked at it for a few seconds as it kept ringing until it was switched to voicemail because you didn't answer.

He hanged up and you put your phone back on the coffee table, taking the remote control as you turned the television off and stood up, about ready to head to the room when your phone started ringing again.

You almost flinched, perhaps Kenma's absence made you a bit jumpy or maybe because you knew who it was that is calling. You turned back around and looked at your phone, Kuroo's name displayed on the screen.

This time, you didn't wait for it to be switch to voicemail, when you picked up your phone from the coffee table, you found yourself sliding the answer button.

You put the phone next to your ear and waited for him to speak first.

And he did.

"Y/n?" he asked, as if he wasn't sure it was you who will pick up for some reason.

"It's me, Kuroo-san. Why did you call?" you asked right away, straight to the point because for some reason, you didn't want to prolong this call.

"Can we talk?"

"We're talking," you said.

"No, like can we talk personally?"

You looked around, remembering that Kenma had left and still hasn't come back. "Why?"

You couldn't hide the wariness in your voice, the cautiousness that Kenma instilled in you whenever you would talk to Kuroo, or any other guy for that matter.

"I need to tell you something important," he said, there was no hint of malice or ill intent in his tone of voice.

"Why don't you just tell me now while we're talking on the phone?"

You have never been this wary of someone, Kuroo thought when you insisted that. It wasn't that he was going to deceive you, it was just a last resort if he couldn't ask you to talk to him personally.

"The thing is," he started. "Kenma's here."

Kuroo did feel bad, that he had to use such an underhanded tactic. He wouldn't be able to resort to such deceit if Kuroo didn't see Kenma prior to this. Of course he didn't know if Kenma told you where he's going, but he's putting that into gamble.

"Kenma?" you asked, a hint of doubt still lingering in your voice. "Can I hear him?"

A few seconds of silence passed until you heard a familiar voice.

"Y/n,"

It was Kenma, you thought.

"Kenma here said he wants to talk to me and make up with me," Kuroo said, realizing that Kenma really didn't tell you where he's going, otherwise you would have already hanged up.

"Oh, that?"

You remembered telling Kenma to talk to Kuroo, he asked you if that was what you want and you said yes. Perhaps it was where Kenma went to earlier, you concluded. But there's still something you couldn't get.

"Why didn't Kenma just tell me that he's going to meet you? He could have brought me along, but he didn't tell me where he's going."

"Well, you know Kenma, he can be a bit shy and secretive."

And Kuroo can be a bit sly and mischievous.

"Look, if you don't want to come, it's fine."

Now he's using reverse psychology. Kuroo almost felt bad, but something outweighs that feeling.

"Okay, bye then," you said, not falling in the trap of reverse psychology.

But before you can hang up, Kuroo suddenly spoke.

"Kenma said there's something you want to tell me too," he said quickly before he cleared his throat. "He said it's something that he cannot tell but you have the right to tell."

Suddenly, you realized what Kuroo was pertaining to as your eyes travelled to the black screen of the television and saw your reflection, your hand found your stomach, the bump almost visible now if one looks closely.

"That?" you muttered.

"Yes, whatever that is."

You were silent for a few seconds before Kuroo heard you sigh. "Alright, where are you?"

He said he'll text you the address, and you received a message a few seconds after hanging up. You took a jacket and headed to the door, still feeling like you shouldn't go but that feeling gradually vanished as you headed out the door and outside the apartment complex.

You headed to Shinjuku, showing the taxi driver the address and when you arrived at the place you realized it's a port. You stepped outside the car, the breeze getting much colder since you're near a body of water, the moonlight reflecting on it.

"Kuroo-san?" you asked, walking towards the guy who had his back on you until you had gotten near him and he turned around.

"Y/n-chaβ€”"

"Where's Kenma?" you asked immediately, looking around the deserted place with nothing but the river and cargo trucks. "Did you..." you asked slowly, looking back to Kuroo, your expression changing into that of someone who was betrayed.

"Did you lie to me so I could come here?"

"Y/n, it's just that Iβ€”"

"No, you lied!" you took a step back when Kuroo tried to outstretch his hand towards you.

"I need to tell you something really important, so please just listen to me."

He looked desperate, closing his eyes for a second as he took a deep breath and recollected his thoughts before opening his eyes and looking straight into yours.

"Kenma...he's..." Kuroo couldn't say it, because couldn't believe it either. It felt like something is coming up his throat, a lump that's stuck in there and Kuroo gulped it down. "He's a prime suspect in an abduction and murder case. And the police are looking for him."

Kuroo's shoulders slumped and he closed his eyes tightly, looking up as he pinched the bridge of his nose. You let what he said process in your head until Kuroo looked back at you.

"But there weren't enough evidence to prove him guilty beyond reasonable doubt. If we have a witness, at least thatβ€”"

"Are you telling me to be the witness?" you asked, feeling a strange combination of emotion bottling up inside you. "You want me to say he's behind those cases?"

"It's not that, Y/nβ€”"

"Then what? And do you really have to lie to me like that?"

"I didn't lie," Kuroo said, before his eyes averted from you to look passed you. "I told you Kenma's here."

Suddenly you heard something click, like a gun being cocked, and it made you flinch before you slowly looked behind to see Kenma standing in front of his car, a gun in hand pointing at Kuroo.

"Get in the car," Kenma said, before he glanced at you. "Y/n."

He was so calm, so terrifyingly calm for someone who exudes a murderous intent.

"Kenma," you muttered, breathe trembling as you look at the gun he is holding.

You took a step forward, and when Kenma noticed Kuroo was about to move towards you, Kenma moved forward as well.

"Take one step, I dare you," he said.

Kuroo had no choice but to remain standing still as you walk towards Kenma who spared you a glance for a split second before you walked past him and stepped in the car.

When Kenma heard the door shut, he focused all his undivided attention to Kuroo.

"Kenma, put the gun down," he said, as if he can reason out with him.

"Sure I'll put it down." The side of Kenma's lips turned up slightly in a smirk. "After I put a bullet between your eyes."

"Is that so?" Kuroo asked, a smirk playing across his lips as well. "I doubt it's even loaded."

"Oh yeah? Want me to try it?" Kenma asked, and before Kuroo can say anything back, Kenma pulled the trigger, making you flinched in surprise.

When you looked ahead, you realized Kenma had fired the gun but he didn't shot Kuroo, who stood there still.

"Now don't tell me there's only one bullet, because there are enough bullets here to send you on the other side, Kuro."

It was almost unnoticeable, the slightest gulp that Kuroo did before he visibly let his guard down.

"Kenma this isn't like you."

"What? Do you know what I'm like?"

"Right," Kuroo muttered, averting his gaze down. "I know nothing about you."

When he thought they were more than acquaintances, all those times they spent playing videogames on sleepless nights. The ups and downs while playing volleyball in high school. Perhaps it's time to accept that he really does know nothing about the best friend Kuroo had always believed Kenma was.

"But Kenma, there's something you don't know too," Kuroo said, looking back at him. "You forgot to cock your gun."

And in that split second, Kuroo had run up to Kenma. "And I'm physically stronger than you."

You watched as they tried to take the gun, your hand on the door of the car and you were so close to opening it.

"No, that's dangerous," you muttered, slowly pushing the door open until you heard a loud bang that made you flinched and your heart started to beat rigidly.

You stepped outside the car and looked ahead at the two who stood still.

It felt like the longest second in your life until you saw Kuroo took a step back and he's holding the gun.

"No," you muttered, shaking your head.

Kenma had almost stumbled back as Kuroo threw the gun in the river. You closed your eyes and looked down, trying to calm your rigid heartbeat but to no avail.

And when you opened your eyes you saw something that made your knees weakened.

"Blood," you said, voice no more than above a whisper.

There was no blood on Kuroo, and anywhere Kenma looked there was no blood on his body either.

It was you, with blood running down your thigh as the pain registered in your mind, a sharp pain coming from your stomach as your knees finally buckled up and you fell.
