Suki knew they don't get a lot of guests visiting their place. Aside from her grandmother, Kenma's mom, and her uncle Kuroo along with some of Kenma's high school friends, Suki knew they don't often get visitors.

So when Kenma told her someone is going to visit today, her initial thought were one of the only few people who would visit them. But she was surprise when she saw an unfamiliar woman.

"Good morning, Mr. Kozume," she said, inclining her head. "I'm from Tohuko Hospital."

"Hospital," Suki mumbled but her voice is too low and silent.

"Good morning," Kenma greeted back while Suki stood behind him, taking a glance at the woman before she lifted her arms towards Kenma and he picked her up.

Turning around, Kenma started to walk to the living room while carrying the little girl who leaned on his shoulder, fingers on her lips as she stare at the woman who in turn gave Suki a smile as she follows Kenma.

When they got to the living room, Kenma put Suki down on the couch as the woman sat down as well. And a moment later you came walking from the kitchen, carrying a tray of refreshments for the guest whom you realized was someone you knew.

"Oh? Senpai?" you asked, eyes a bit wide as you stare at the familiar woman in front, putting down the tray on the coffee table, you sat beside Suki and across her.

"It's been a while, Y/n." she smiled at you, the same gentle smile as she always had before while Suki looked at her then at you.

"Mommy, do you know her?" she asked curiously.

"Yes, she's mommy's friend from her previous work at the hospital."

"Hospital?" this time her question was not sparked by curiosity but rather the fact that the woman came from the hospital and Suki looked back at her as she scooted closer to you. "Is she here to prick Suki with a needle?"

"No, Suki-chan," you said, looking at the little girl who looked up at you, her eyebrows crease in worry and you held her face, caressing her soft cheeks. "She's just here to take a cheek swab."

"What's that?" Suki asked tilting her head.

The woman took a sip of the drink you prepared before she put the glass down on the tray and took out a pair of gloves, a cotton swab and a vial along with a testing kit. And when Suki saw it, she scooted much closer to you, arms wrapping around your waist.

"Mommy," she said, voice trembling as she buried her face on your side.

"Suki," Kenma's tone was serious and reprimanding, but the little girl didn't budge so you held her arms and made her look at you as you leaned down a bit.

"Suki-chan, it wouldn't hurt, I promise," you said, voice gentle and low. "And it will last only for a few seconds. Mommy's friend is just going to put a cotton swab in your cheek."

"It doesn't a hurt?" Suki asked, eyes gleaming in fear.

You shook your head and brushed your thumb on her cheek. "It might even tickle a bit but it doesn't hurt. All Suki needs to do is to open her mouth and sit still for a few seconds, can you do that?"

"There's no needle?" she asked again, just to make sure and you chuckled lightly when you remembered how she asked you the same thing before when you first visited here.

"There's no needle," you said.

"Okay," Suki muttered, leaning back as she straightened up. "Suki can do it if there's no needle."

You looked at the woman and nodded your head before she moved towards Suki and asked the little girl if she can open her mouth, to which Suki did as she put the cotton swab inside her mouth and rub it on the inside of her cheeks to get the tissue sample.

After a few seconds she leaned back and Suki closed her mouth, looking back at you. "It's done?" she asked.

"Yes, it's all done! See, you did well." You brushed her hair from her forehead and the fear gleaming in her eyes earlier vanished as she smiled.

"Well then, I'll get going now," the woman said, taking her kit as she took off her gloves and stood up. "See you around Y/n."

"See you around," you said, waving at her as Suki called your attention.

"Mr. Kozume, can I have a word with you?"

You watched as Kenma stood up and headed to the hallway leading to the front door. You didn't get to see his reaction, you know how good Kenma is at playing poker, both in games and in hiding his emotions.

So you couldn't help the uneasy feeling gnawing at you, but before it consumes your mind you shook your head and looked back at Suki.

"Should we slice up the apple pie in the kitchen?" you asked and the little nodded enthusiastically.

While you and Suki headed to the kitchen, Kenma stopped by the front door, looking at the doctor. "I had no idea Y/n knows you," he started.

"We met at work," she said. "But putting that aside, Mr. Kozume, I believe you are Suki's maternal uncle and adoptive father, yes?"

"Yes," Kenma answered.

"I have already taken Mr. Aihara's tissue samples. The result will come out in a week."

If anything Kenma wants the result to never come out, there's still a part of him that wish that. He had thought to himself, what if he didn't meet Aihara Mori that day? What if he saw the message from Suki's homeroom teacher that the class ended earlier so he can go and pick Suki up right away? What if he didn't entertain the possibility of Aihara Mori's connection with his sister?

All those what ifs are no longer valid when things had already happened and are continuing to happen, they had no particular pertinence in this situation other than providing a sort of scenario to all those what ifs, scenarios that wouldn't even happen.

"I already told Mr. Aihara this, you can contact me within this week to inform me where we should meet for the statement of the result. Whether in my clinic, at Mr. Aihara's place or here, just inform me."

"Alright," Kenma said, nodding his head. "Thank you,"

Kenma watched as she opened the door, but before she can completely leave, she turned around and look at Kenma.

"Regardless of the result, I hope things will be for the better for both parties. I'll take my leave now then, Mr. Kozume." She inclined her head and Kenma did the same before she left.

Kenma stood there for a while, pondering what she said. That regardless of the result, things will be for the better for both Suki and her biological father. Because Kenma knew things don't happen 'just because'.

Things happen for a reason, whatever that reason is, it's for people to find out. That's how fate plays her little trick games after all.

As Kenma walk back inside, he saw you with Suki in the kitchen. The little girl is kneeling on her chair as you cut the apple pie and put a slice on Suki's plate and put one on yours.

"Judging by the crumbs on your dress, that wasn't your first slice, is it?"

"Daddy!" Suki said, almost in a whine as she took a bite of the apple pie.

"How many did you have? Be honest."

"Suki just had two!"

"So that was you third slice," Kenma said, looking at the apple pie as you cut a slice for him.

"No, it's the second!" Suki countered.

You handed the plate to Kenma who took it from you with a 'thanks' as he sat on the chair while you pour him a glass of refreshment.

And as you three enjoyed the food, Kenma thought about what the doctor said earlier. One week, he thought to himself. One week and things will change, for good he hope. And he also hope that a week can go by as slow as possible, because Kenma knew how fleeting time truly is.

While he had those thoughts in his mind, it was only later that night did he realize he was missing something.

And he wouldn't have realized it right away had you not bring it up to Kenma when you two are in the living room watching some reruns of a show after putting Suki to bed.

"Kenma, have you told your mom about this?"

"My mom?" Kenma asked, tearing his eyes from the television to look at you. "No, I haven't."

That's right he thought, he still hasn't told his mother about this. About how he met the man who was connected to Kana before, about the paternity test, and Kenma felt like somewhat negligent for not contacting his mother.

But then again, he doesn't want her to worry about anything since she's not getting any younger and she's supposed to be relaxing in a villa with a hot spring. But this matter concerns her daughter and granddaughter so she has the right to know more than anyone.

"Should I give her a call?" Kenma asked, briefly looking at the time before he took his phone out. "Excuse me for a while."

You nodded as you watched him stand up and headed away from the living room before you turned back and watch the show, though you couldn't focus on it anymore as you think about how Kenma will tell his mother.

You didn't know if it was because you were thinking about it, but it didn't take long until Kenma came back and you turned to him.

He had always been good at hiding his emotion but this time you can clearly tell.

"Did she say something?"

Kenma looked crestfallen. "Mom already knew about Suki's biological father."
