Of course there wouldn't be any corn soup left in the kitchen. This is the HQ where soldiers who fight and kill titans are being trained, not to mention, they knew how precious food is and they either couldn't afford to have any leftover or the food was just enough, if not barely enough, for them.

Still, Levi had hope to at least find some leftover corn soup and reheat it so he wouldn't have to go with all the trouble of making a bowl of soup.

Trouble? It wasn't a trouble, Levi had to tell himself. At least it wasn't if it's you and it never will. It's just that, Levi never really learned how to cook. So he didn't even attempt to make a bowl of soup. Otherwise he would just be wasting their stock of food

Instead he found himself walking back to his quarters with a plate of bread and a slice of cheese. Before going to the kitchen you told him you'd be waiting for him in his quarters because the beds in the infirmary make your back hurts.

When Levi got there, he found you sitting on a chair with the mug of tea he brewed earlier.

"Here," he said, putting the plate on the table. "There was no corn soup left."

"I should have known." You chuckled lowly, thinking about those soldiers that might be famish after a long day of training and considering how limited the supply is being allocated to their unit.

Putting the mug down, you took the plate and sliced the bread in half before lifting your hand to Levi who looked at it.

"What?" he asked, sitting on his chair as he avert his eyes from the bread to look at you. "Want me to feed you now?"

"No, I want you to eat," you said. "You just got back and I know you haven't eaten yet."

Levi sighed inaudibly before he took your hand. But instead of taking the bread, he lowered your hand down.

"You should eat it all," he said, eyes travelling to the bread and slice of cheese and his eyebrows visibly furrowed. "It's barely enough for you."

"We can share, you know," you muttered, looking down on his hand around your wrist. "When we swore and exchange those vows to each other, we promised to share everything."

A promise to share everything, all the pain and suffering, happiness and blessings, it was a promise with the validity that last until either of you breathe their last. It's a promise that is binding for a lifetime.

Levi chuckled lowly and you looked up at him as he released his hold around your wrist. "I'm really fine. I'm not hungry so eat it all."

Levi had endured worse than a whole day without a meal. Back in the childhood he had buried at the back of his mind, sitting in a corner beside his mother's bed in that small room in the slums of The Underground, knees up and arms wrap around them, he had endured days without food and water.

That's why he doesn't want his kid to experience the same. At the thought of it, Levi's eyes travelled down your stomach and you noticed it.

"Don't skip any meals and pass out."

"It's not that I want to skip meals," you mumbled. "I just kept throwing up whenever I try to eat something."

You never knew how hard it would be, but you knew even this will come to pass. And it was a lesser sacrifice that you need to endure for a short while just to bring a life in this world.

"Hey," Levi suddenly said and you thought for a moment that he was talking to you until you saw him moved from his chair and went to your side, bending down in front as he look at your stomach. "Don't give your mother a hard time, kid."

A sound escaped your lips, a sort of bliss bubbling up inside you and you started to laugh, shoulders shaking as your light chuckle filled the room and Levi looked back at you.

The side of his lips perked up in a littlest smile before he straightened up and pat your head as he walked around the table. "Go eat. You can sleep here."

You watched as Levi took a cup and made himself tea before he sat back on his chair and you started to eat. The bread was somewhat hard to chew, so you had to down it with tea. The cheese surprisingly didn't make you throw up.

Once you're done, you headed to the bed and lie down. Levi's bed had always been comfortable compared to the ones in the infirmary, not to mention it's a lot cleaner. Levi doesn't really use his bed often, he barely sleep long anyways so instead of using the bed he'd use his chair to sleep for an hour or two.

Levi stood up and walked up to you, his hand on your forehead as you opened your eyes to look at him. "You're full now?"

You nodded. "Thank you."

"I'll just take the plate back in the dining hall."

You nodded again, rolling on your side as you closed your eyes while Levi took the plate and left. Maybe because your stomach doesn't feel empty anymore that you were able to sleep faster. When Levi got back, you're already sleeping soundly.

He moved a chair on the side of the bed and sat there. For a moment Levi thought he had woken you up when you moved and rolled on your back but when Levi looked at you he saw that you're still sound asleep.

He sat down and stare at you for a few seconds, just letting the fact that this woman sleeping peacefully is someone he had sworn to keep and love, and now someone who's carrying his child.

His eyes travelled to your stomach and Levi found himself lifting his hand. But before he can touch your stomach, his hand froze, hovering above before he lowered his head. It was in that moment he started to process everything. From what had happened, what is happening and what will happen.

The weight of being Humanity's Strongest Soldier had been on his shoulders and yet it was nothing compared to the weight of being a father. Will he be a good father? A bad one? He doesn't even know how to become a father when he didn't have one.

The only father figure he had was a man known as The Ripper in The Underground, and it wasn't exactly something Levi had ever told anyone.

He doesn't know how to exactly become a good father. Killing titans was a far easier task for him, but raising a child and thinking about whether he's doing a good job or not, it was something Levi had never precisely thought before.

"What's wrong?" your voice was what pulled Levi out of his reverie and his hand hovering above your stomach flinched before he felt you holding his hand and Levi lifted his head.

He watched as you pulled his hand down and his palm lay flat on your stomach. "It's still small, but something is growing in there."

Levi's hands had always been warm against your skin, it was the pleasant kind of warmth that made butterflies appear in your belly. It was the warmth like home because he is your home.

A small being that's growing each day, and each day you couldn't wait until you see it.

"Our baby," you said.

When those words came of your lips, Levi felt something welled up in him. It was the kind of warmth that would spread in his chest, gradually invading his whole being like being wrapped in a cozy blanket in the middle of a cold night in front of a hearth.

Not that Levi ever knew what that feels, or had ever experienced it before, but if that is what it feels then it was that kind of pleasant feeling.

"Levi," you called his name and Levi blinked, only then did he realize it. "Why are you crying?"

It wasn't like he's crying, a tear just managed to slid down his eye, making his steel gray eyes shone with more tears threatening to fall.

"Stop it, you're making me cry too."

Even when you said that, you're already crying, bursting out in tears as Levi leaned down and you wrap your arms around him, face buried on his chest as you let out a muffled cry.

Levi only had one wish that night. He wish to create a world where his kid can grow up with a smile on his face. And to create that world, there will come a time when he has to sacrifice something big. Not that he ever thought of that far ahead.

Because in that moment, he just wants to relish the 'now' and leave the future until that too becomes the present.
