"T..thirty thousand?!" I choked in disbelief. "Is there a problem? Do I need to repeat myself?" my bank manager asked me. "N-no, just taken back, thank you." I say, and end the call. My hand drops in my lap and I close my eyes. We didn't even have sex and he paid that much!? Who was this man?

Why did he have so much money?!

I wanted to cry and thank him but that would be pathetic. I was just a pet to him. I may not even meet him again. I lick my dry lips and look up at my dad, sleeping on the hospital bed. "When you're out of here, I'll be able to support the both of us- you don't need to worry about me anymore, appa. I could go back to college-" I told him, a hint of excitement in my voice.

"Sweetie." I looked up at the nurse who just walked in. "Your father's doctor would like to speak to you." she smiled weakly. My breath hitched and I gripped the chair rest. "Is everything okay?" I asked quietly. "He's waiting outside." was all she said.

I nodded and stood up before walking out. "Doctor." I called softly to gain his attention. He smiled my way and walked towards me. "Rai." he smiled. His lips then formed a straight line when he looked down at the sheets of paper in his hand. "We're trying everything we can. As you know the chemotherapy stopped when he fell into a coma. With no chemo, the cancer was able to spread and grow." he explained.

I closed my eyes and inhaled. "I understand." I say in a voice barely audible. He rubs my shoulder. "We can't do anything whilst he is in a coma, Rai." He told me.

"How bad is it?" I asked looking up at him. "No more than a year." I pause. My cheeks felt warm and my throat became dry. I wanted to cry, sob, scream. It wasn't fair. None of this was. The only piece of family I had left was now being taken away from me. I wiped my tears and put on a weak smile. "You don't need to smile, sweetheart. I know how much you've gone through. Paying hospital bills for almost a year and all by yourself. I'm not just your fathers doctor, Rai. I'm here for you." He tells me softly.

Ryan, my fathers doctor, was close to me because his mother knew mine. After she passed away, Ryan became closer to me.

"Thanks, Ryan. I owe you so much."

"Wait for me, I'll give you a ride home after my shift." He pulls me into a hug before looking down at me. "Okay?" He repeats. I nod and he smiles. "Doctor, you need to fill out the forms for patient thirteen." The same nurse from before tells him. He rips his eyes away from me and looks up at her. "Fine." He breathes out. Ryan was always someone my motherΒ  wanted me to end up with. He was smart, handsome, and of course a doctor. But behind all of that was a beautiful person.

He was the friend I needed. The support I needed.

I paused when I felt a pair of eyes on me. The hairs on my neck stood up and I glanced back at the man from earlier. His hands were buried deep into his pockets and he was leant against the wall, intensively studying me.

I gulped and held eye contact. Why? I don't know.

Why was he watching me? Why was I watching him-

_________

"You live so far away...you really don't have to-" I began but Ryan cut me off. "Get in." he said, his tone dropping.

I shut up and obeyed him. It was rare for me to let him drop me. I hated the feeling of owing someone something back. So, I just avoided it. "Seat belt." he reminded me before turning his keys.

I quickly reach over and pulled it over my chest. I caught him watching me as I pressed the buckle in. When I was done, I sunk into the leather seat and relaxed. It was nice not taking the public bus. The number of times I was accidentally touched or pushed over. "You okay?" he asked as he pulled out of the hospital. It hurt me every time I left.

It was like I was leaving appa behind, and knowing how much he hated hospitals made it worse. "Im fine." I breathed out.

I turned my head and glanced up at him. His hair was dark brown which matched his eyes and his skin has this perfect tan. His body was mouth watering, I could see the material wrapped around his arms tightening everytime he flexed his muscles.

If he wasn't a doctor I wouldve guessed he was part of some powerful mafia mob. "You could always live with me, Rai. You know that." he told me. Apart from being a doctor he must be doing something else because he was wealthy.
He lived in this huge mansion and the car I was sat in was probably worth more than myself.

"I don't want to depend on anyone. Besides, I got my first payment today." I said, mumbling the last part.

Please don't ask what I do...Please....

"Where do you work?"

Shit.

"Babysitting, and a small cafe downtown." I lied.

He smiled and nodded. "But if things get too much, come to me, okay." he said more like a warning. I nodded.

___________

"Thank you, I owe y-" I went to say, but he cut me off. "Stop saying that. You owe me nothing." he tells me. "Do you have dinner?" he questions. "Yes." I lied.

Thanks to my payment, I'm able to order out. I'll go grocery shopping tomorrow. I'll also be able to keep my apartment for longer. "Okay, sleep early." he says and leans closer. I pause when he leaves a lingering kiss on my cheek. I turn to look at him but he smiles. "Goodnight." I say before getting out the car.

When I enter my small apartment my phone rings. "Hello?"

"Whatever you did on your first day, keep it going! We'll see you tomorrow." I realised it was a person from my workplace. My eyes widen, "O-oh, yes. Thank you. I will be there tomorrow." I responded.

They end the call and I frowned.
