The students of Hogwarts were on their last Hogsmeade village trip of the school year. The trip was cut short from a full weekend to one day, but the students were alright with that, since many of them weren't even expecting to be allowed to go at all. And thankfully, it was a bright summer day, and the sun was set to go down quite late, so the students would be allotted extra time before returning to Hogwarts castle. Of course, there were many students who weren't granted permission from their guardians to go, but it was still a good turnout of teenagers.Β

Ophelia and most of her friends were allowed to go, and she went with her small group of close friends as well as a few extra friends from her year. The six of them wanted to hit everything they would in a normal Hogsmeade trip, so they tried to compact their day into the best schedule they could.

But by six o'clock in the evening, her and her friends had done everything they wanted to do, and were just relaxing on a bench by Ollivander's Wand Shop. They were all enjoying sweets they had purchased earlier from Honeydukes, and were chatting about nothing.Β

Actually, they were chatting about a romantic prospect for Daisy Hookum, but it wasn't much of a debate, since she clearly had her eye on someone already.

"Well there's that one lad in Hufflepuff who kind of smells like cheese." Thomas said.Β

"Oh yeah, that's true. Didn't you smell him when we did the Amortentia potion at the beginning of the year?" Ophelia asked Daisy.Β

"I hate that bloke." Barty muttered, but everyone ignored him.Β

"I did, yeah." Daisy said, responding to Ophelia. "I kind of like him, I think."

"Well, you should go ask him out." Regulus spoke up. "I mean, we only have one more year of school. You don't want to miss your shot."

"That's true. Maybe I will." Daisy smiled.Β

The group seemed satisfied with Daisy's response, hopeful for her and the other Hufflepuff boy, and they all resumed eating their sweets. After a second, Pandora looked up with a pensive expression.Β

"Wait, you two made an Amortentia potion earlier this year?" She asked Ophelia and Daisy.Β

"Yeah." Ophelia said. "I told you about it, remember?"

"I feel like I would certainly remember you making an Amortentia. Who did you smell? Spill!"

"I didn't smell anyone. I left right after we made it, I'm-" She trailed off when her eyes wandered the street and noticed a familiar face walking towards her. "Sirius." She blurted, then waved to him.

Sirius smiled at Ophelia and made his way over to her and all of her friends. She stood up from the bench and hugged him, since this was the first time they've seen each other in months.Β

"Sirius!" She squealed as she stood up on her toes to near Sirius' height. "Oh, I missed you! How have you been?"

"Quite well, darling." He beamed, his arms now enveloping Ophelia's upper body. "What about you? How has life been treating you since Christmas?"

The two of them let go of each other and took a step back. Ophelia realised that there were people around them still, as she had lost focus of them when she first saw Sirius.Β

"I've been really good." She smiled. "I'm friends with Reggie again, as you can see."Β

Ophelia moved slightly to the side and gestured to all of her friends sitting behind her. Sirius shot them all a quick wave, and though he knew most of them, only greeted Regulus by name.Β

"Regulus, good to see you again." Sirius said.Β

"You too, Sirius."

That was the end of the cold greeting between the two brothers. It saddened Ophelia to see their distance, as she was close with both of them and knew that they once had a much more amicable and brotherly relationship. Nevertheless, she hid those melancholy thoughts and turned back to Sirius.Β

"So, what are you doing here today?" She asked him.Β

"I heard that the Hogwarts student body was having their trip here today, so I came over to see you. There's something I wanted to talk to you about that I didn't want to do over letters."

Regulus looked concerned by Sirius' response, and piped up to inquire more. "What would that be?"

"Oh, I meant just Ophelia, alone." Sirius clarified, then turned over to her. "If it's not a bad time for you, of course."

"No, no, it's a good time, don't worry. We could just walk around and talk." She said, then turned around quickly and told her friends that she would be back in a minute.Β

She then flashed Sirius a quick smile and began walking down the pavement with him. Sirius didn't say anything until he left earshot of all Ophelia's friends, which was making Ophelia increasingly anxious for each silent step they took.Β

After a few metres past Honeydukes, Ophelia took it upon herself to start the conversation.Β

"So, what was it that you wanted to talk to me about?" She asked, rather directly for both of their tastes.Β

"It's about James." Sirius responded.Β

A string of worries immediately started running through Ophelia's head when she heard her brother's name. She knew that he was never one to pay much attention to personal safety, so she was worried he'd been hurt somehow. But James and his friends were also notorious troublemakers, and she began to fear the idea that they had all outdone themselves this time and had done something too outrageous, even for them.Β

"Oh Merlin, did something happen to him? If it's something really bad, I want to go somewhere more private so I don't get emotional in front of all these people. Oh no, just tell me."

Sirius realised how what he said must have sounded to her, and stopped to quickly ease her anxious mind.Β

"Oh, Ophelia, no, don't worry. It's nothing like what you must have just imagined. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said it like that."

Ophelia let out a soft sigh of relief, and then a tiny giggle out of embarrassment for herself. "Oh, sorry." She apologised, simpering.

"Why are you apologising to me?" Sirius chuckled.Β

"Oh yeah, sorry."

They both caught her second apology, and Ophelia covered her mouth while Sirius rolled his eyes jokingly.Β

"Okay, sorry, I'll stop." She said, then covered her mouth even tighter as she giggled into her palm. She loosened her grip on her jaw and told Sirius that he should be the one to speak now. "I think you should just tell me whatever you wanted to say before I keep apologising to you."

"I think that would be a good idea, yes." Sirius laughed.Β

The two of them both took a quick second to collect themselves and continue walking down the pavement, then Sirius began to tell Ophelia the thing he originally came for.Β

"So, you know how James and Lily have been dating for a while and they just moved in together this past year?" He started.Β

"It's all my parents talk about, of course. Always bragging about their perfect son and his precious lilyflower." Ophelia said, briefly rolling her eyes.

"They don't talk about him that much."

"You don't have to live with them anymore, Black."

"Well, even if they do, you won't have to live with them for much longer."

Ophelia nodded, and they continued walking, still stalling on the original conversation.

"Well anyways, James and Lily have really been happy together. And, well, they're getting married. They just got engaged." Sirius told her.Β

Ophelia's jaw dropped, but she immediately closed it. She was shocked, confused, and excited all at once. She didn't know what to say, so she went with the standard "That's so great for them."

"Yeah, they're really happy."

"When did this happen?" She asked.Β

"Um, just last weekend." He said, rubbing the back of his neck.Β

His answer confused Ophelia even more. A week had gone by since her brother proposed to the girl he's been obsessed with for years, and no one had told her about it.Β

"Oh, no one told me about it." She said quietly.Β

Sirius looked down on her with a moderately guilty look on his face.Β

"Yeah, that's the second part of it." He said, sounding slightly pained. "They want a really small wedding, and I don't think they were planning on telling you."

"Oh." Ophelia choked.Β

"James said they're going to do something really small, like just a few friends."

Ophelia stood in silence, staring at the cobblestone ground and tried to process what she had just heard.

"I just thought you deserved to know."Β Sirius sighed. "I didn't know when anyone was planning on telling you, if they were at all, so I just wanted to be the one to say it."

"Uh, yeah. No, no, thank you for telling me." She said, her eyes unfocused yet still locked on the ground.

She shook her head, then looked up at Sirius' uncertain face.

"Are you going?" Ophelia asked him.

"Yeah, James actually just asked me to be best man." He replied. A small yet proud smile when he said the words 'best man'.

"Wow, best man." Ophelia repeated with a smile. "Do you need a best woman? I could be your plus one."

Sirius laughed; partially at Ophelia's suggestion, but mainly he was just relieved that she took the news relatively well.

"I'll see what I can do." He smiled. "I'll keep you posted."
