Since it was June, and the school year at Hogwarts was soon coming to an end, all the students were responsible for packing up all of their stuff to bring home for the summer.Β

Ophelia always had her stuff set neatly in her trunks and on her nightstand, so there was never much to pack away when it got to the summertime. The boys however, specifically Barty, required a little bit of help when it came to organisation.

Every year, before both winter break and the start of summer, she would help them get all their things packed and ready for their return home.Β

She would always start by helping Regulus, because though he had more clothes and books to pack, he was far more organised than Barty.

Starting with his books, Ophelia placed some of Regulus' personal items in his biggest trunk.

While they packed β€” Or more accurately, Ophelia packed and the boys watched and occasionally handed her the odd shirt β€” they spoke about the conversation she had taken part in the day before at Hogsmeade with Sirius Black.

"I just don't know how to feel." Ophelia confessed. "It's not like I was dying to go to my partially estranged brother's wedding, but it would be nice to get an invite, or at least not have to hear about it through the best man."

"I think you should just be relieved. A boring family event and you don't have to go." Barty commented.Β

He had a point, in the sense that Ophelia had never been a fan of large gatherings, especially family events. She'd be lying if she said that not having to attend a large party was at least a small favouring factor in her mind.

"But it's not just a boring family event." Ophelia told him. "It's his wedding, and he doesn't want me there."

"You did just say that you're estranged from each other." Barty pointed out.

"Partially estranged."

Ophelia gestured for Regulus to hand her a stack of his books that was sitting next to him. He complied, of course, and she arranged them in the trunk.

"But it would still be nice for him, or even my parents, to tell me about the proposal." Ophelia continued. "Instead, I'm finding out through Sirius' goodwill and guilty conscience in my favour while we're on a Hogsmeade trip."

It was clear to everyone in the room, including Ophelia, that she was becoming increasingly emotional about the subject, so she took a breath and stopped speaking for a moment to calm herself down.

Once she finished Regulus' books in silence, Ophelia moved on to his clothes.

While she was working on the books, she had instructed Regulus and Barty to lay out clothes for the rest of the month.Β  Again, Regulus had complied, but Barty was taking his sweet time.

Regulus separated his clothes into two piles, one large and one fit for no more than a week and a half without repeats.

He passed the former over to Ophelia and she looked through the pile, sorting the clothes into categories of article type and material.

Trying to continue the conversation one more time, Regulus asked a question relating to the engagement that was unlikely to worsen Ophelia's mood.

"Do you think you'll contact James about everything?"

"Well I'd like to know a little bit more." Ophelia said, placing a small pile of silk vests over a bed of soft linen shirts.

"Like what?" Barty asked.

"Why I wasn't invited to an engagement party or a wedding, let alone informed about any of this, for starters."

Regulus looked up at Ophelia from across the bed. He looked into her eyes, trying to analyse how she was really feeling. Ophelia caught him gazing, but didn't think much of it. She shrugged and muttered something about how she'd just like to know.Β

"Don't freak out about this now, Effie," Barty spoke up, "but do you think maybe he's suspicious of you because you're a Slytherin? Because of all that's going on right now?"

Ophelia put down the pair of trousers she was folding and looked at Barty. He was slightly concerned, as she wasn't saying anything and her expression was one incomprehensible to him.Β

Barty's eyes widened for every second that went by without a response from the girl.Β

After a frightening and painstaking pause for both of the boys, Ophelia finally spoke.Β

"You don't think that he thinks I'mβ€”" She paused and cut herself off, not even wanting to say it out loud. "He can't be suspicious of me, right? I'm his sister, he knows me."Β

Neither of them answered her question, not wanting to say something that could further upset her.Β

"He can't really think of me a villain such as them, right?" She rephrased herself, slowing and enunciating her words.Β

"Well," Barty finally piped, "Lucinda did approach you to join them. They must have seen something in you that would tell them you would be a fit for them. And if there is something there, I'm certain James would see it in you as well."Β

Ophelia continued staring, her eyes wide and pensive. Seeing another uncertain reaction from her, Barty decided to shut himself up and return to separating his clothes.Β

"Ophelia, I doubt it's that." Regulus said, attempting to comfort her.Β

It was little to no use at that point. She was already in her head and lost in a labyrinth of her own thoughts. She was only thinking negatively, and knew that the downward spiral would only worsen if she didn't rush to find a distraction.

"It doesn't matter." She said quickly, her eyes returning to the clothing and locking on the task. "I won't be attending the wedding, so it would be a waste for me to continue putting any thought into the matter."Β
