Dess turned to lay on her back, holding her phone to her chest and kicking her feet in the air. She felt her cheeks getting hot as she blushed at the thought of spending an entire week with him. She didn't have an issue being here with her family but she missed the hell out of Shai. All she wanted was to be up under him.

"This boy got me geeked." She exclaimed, kicking her feet again. She chuckled to herself then sat up on the bed.

Getting herself together, she slide her feet into her slides then exit her room. She skipped down the hallway with a huge smile on her face. Four days. She couldn't wait. Once downstairs, she heard talking going on in the living room which attracted her attention. Sitting on the couch talking to each other was her grandmother Daniella and her cousin Jenna.

"Heyyy, y'all!" Dess shouted, bringing attention to herself. She eager walked to them, plopping on the couch beside Daniella.

"Girl, you better act like you have some sense. You do not plop on my couch." Daniella told her, Dess nodding her head.

"Sorry nonna. Anyway, what y'all talking 'bout?" Dess changing the subject and rested her head on her grandma's shoulder.

"Bout girl? Speak English girl." Daniella remarked, shaking her head. Dess mentally rolled her eyes at her grandmother. The woman knew no one in the house spoke proper English, so Dess wasn't sure why she was correcting her.

"Anyway, what we're yak talking about?" Dess asked again since she didn't realize an answer the first time.

"Nothing important." Jenna spoke. She leaned forward in order to show her phone to Dess. "Besides the fact that Michael B. Jordan is one fine behind man." she continued, smiling hard at Dess.

Dess scrunched up her face, looking at the picture of the actor on her cousin phone. Jenna flared her nose, pulling her phone back and looking Dess up and down.

"What's with the face? This man is fine." Jenna exclaimed, leaning back in the recliner.

"No he is not. Y'all be gassing him up seriously. He's just an average brown skin dude with African American features." Dess responded going on her phone to take a few pictures of herself.

She leaned back on the couch and sent the pictures to Shai. Since he was bored, she figured she send him images that'll make him up.

"Don't be hater, Desdemona. He looks just like that boy you were on the phone with last night." Jenna remarked, rolling her neck with sass. Dess eyes widened at the mention of Shai, Jenna smiling at her.

"What boy?" Daniella questioned. She looked at the two girls who were staring at each other. She nudged Dess arm, making her turn in their direction.

"What boy, girl?" She asked again. Dess tucked in her lips, hesitating on answering that question. Was it worth it? The interrogation that'll come along with mentioning Shai will not be fun.

Daniella nudged Dess arm again, getting slightly frustrated since she wasn't answering her. One thing about the fifty-five year old woman, she did not like being ignored by any of her kids or grandkids. A full explanation wasn't neither either but an acknowledgement was better than silence.

"Desdemona, don't play with me girl. When I ask, you answer." Daniella sternly told her granddaughter.

"I was about to answer nonna." Dess lied through her teeth. She could see her grandma move her hand a little and she did not want to get hit. A smack from her grandmother was never a pleasant feeling.

Daniella hummed, not believing her but was going to let it go. "Whatever you say. Now, who is this boy?" he asked one more time.

"Yeah, Dess, who is he?" Jenna instigated since she was getting a kick out of this.

Dess rolled her eyes. "Anyway, his name is Shai and he's my boyfriend." She answered truthfully.

"Boyfriend?" Daniella raised her brows, Dess nodding her head. "You have a boyfriend?"

"Yes, ma'am. There's no need to do any type of meet up because my father did that already." Dess made known since she knew how her family was. If they could then they would organize a whole meet up just to ask several annoying and personal questions.

"I don't believe that." Jenna chimed in, Dess giving her a glare to shut her mouth. Jenna chuckled and decided to keep quiet for the moment.

"Jenna, if you don't mind ya business girl imma hit you upside your head." Daniella threatened the young dark skin girl that sat on the recliner. Jenna zipped her lips and threw away the key, smiling at Dess and her grandmother.

Daniella placed her attention on Dess and continued, "Did the two of them meet each other face to face?" She questioned.

"No, but that'll happen later. I rather us wait for all of that for reasons." Dess answered. She glanced down at her phone when she felt a vibration. Shai had message her back. She was going to check the message later when she wasn't around her nosey family members.

"Mhm, I don't know about that boyfriend thing. You're too young to be worrying about some random boy." Daniella informed Dess.

"I'm still worrying about school. He's not going to interrupt my education nonna."

Daniella hummed, "You say that now and next thing you know things happen, and education slips right through your fingers. There's nothing worse than an uneducated black woman." She mentioned.

"Or end up pregnant." Jenna jumped back into the conversation despite being told to be quiet. As the younger cousin, it was her duty to be annoying. And that was exactly what she was doing.

"Girl shut up!" Dess exclaimed, getting off the couch and grabbing Jenna's hand. The young girl yelped as she was dragged down to the floor, Dess getting on top of her.

The two of them started play fighting. Jenna's loud girly giggling being heard throughout the house. Daniella shook her head at the two of them.

"Y'all better not break my damn glass table!"

Dess unwrapped her hair from the towel. She dried the back of her neck then tossed it into her hamper when she was done. Climbing on her bed, she grabbed her phone and instantly FaceTimed Shai. She wanted to end her night with her baby. She laid on her stomach as she waited for the call to be connected which didn't take long. He picked up on the second ring, Dess smiling ear to ear when she saw his face.

"My baby!" Dess shouted loudly, making Shai smirk and shake his head. "I miss you!"

"I miss you too." Shai responded. "I'm ready to go back."

"No, seriously. I love my family to death but I miss my people." Dess replied, propping her phone up against her pillows. She rested her chin on the palm on her hands, keeping a smile on her face.

"I miss you like crazy though." Shai mentioned, leaning back on his bed.

"Mhm, I bet you do." Dess muttered, fluttering her eyes at him. A smirk rested on Shai's face. He was thinking about saying something but knew it was too crazy.

They weren't ready for all of that.

As they sat on the phone in silence, the door to Dess bedroom opened and entered Jenna. The teenager shut the door behind her then ran to the bed, jumping on it.

"Girl, get out." Dess told her, grabbing her phone before Jenna could even look at it.

"No. They're all watching some Tyler Perry play and I'm tired of it hearing them singing the songs." Jenna told her, moving closer to Dess so she could look at her phone.

"Okay, and? Shoo." Dess shooed her away but that did nothing.

"Who's on the phone?" Jenna asked, leaning closer to Dess to get a better look.

Over it, Dess blew out a breath and propped her phone back up against her pillow. She wasn't even sure why she tried having alone time while home. That was never going to happen when there was several people under one house. She was going to have to make so with what she had.

"Oooh, is this your boyfriend?" Jenna dragged out loudly, leaning closer to the phone. Dess pushed her head back from the phone already about to get annoyed at her.

"If you're gonna be in here then don't be annoying." Dess told her, Jenna nodding her head.

"Anyway, does he hear me?" Jenna questioned.

"Yes, he hears you." Dess replied, resting her cheek on her hand.

"So, why isn't her responding?"

Dess rolled her eyes and let out an annoyed sigh. "Shai, can you please acknowledge this girl before she has a heart attack." She said, grabbing Shai's attention.

He chuckled. "My fault. Wassup." He greeted Jenna, making her smile. Dess had a feeling she was about to take over their phone call.

"Hello. That's your name? Shai?" Jenna questioned, speaking loudly in Dess ear.

"Yeah, that's my name. What's yours?" Shai asked the little girl.

"Jenna." She responded. "I'm Dess little cousin and you must be her little boyfriend." She dragged, rolling her neck.

"Little boyfriend?" Shai raised his brows, smirking a little.

"Yeah, little boyfriend. My nonna and papa do not play that boyfriend and girlfriend stuff." Jenna remarked, mentioning her and Dess grandparents.

Shai held one of his hands up in the camera. "My bad. Dess and I are close friends." He switched up since he was talking to a little kid. He didn't have any siblings or cousins but he knew how nosey children were. It was best to keep all information from them at all times.

Jenna hummed. "Mhm, don't switch it up boy. Dess already told us that y'all are dating." She sassed, giving Shai a stank face.

"Jenna..." Dess called her name then popped her cousin in the mouth. "Chill with all that damn sass girl. You're a child." she told her. Jenna smacked her lips since she struggled to roll her eyes.

"I didn't even say anything wrong. You showing out for ya little boyfriend." Jenna remarked, Dess tilting her head at her.

"Yeah, Dess, you showing out." Shai chimed in, Dess turning to look at him.

"Don't even play with me." She said in a warning tone while pointing at him. Shai let out a small laugh, leaving it at that.

"Aight, I'm chilling. Anyway, how old you Jenna?" He questioned, going back to the little girl.

"I'm twelve. I'll be thirteen on Christmas. You gon' buy me a present?" She spoke fast, yet her sentences were still clear enough to hear.

"Chile," Dess placed her hand on her forehead, not having anything to say about her. She knew Jenna acted just like her mother, Dess gold-digging aunt.

Shai blew a raspyberry at her question. "Ion even know you like that to buy you a present." He mentioned, Jenna shrugging her shoulders.

"And? My birthday is coming up and you're dating my cousin, therefore, you should buy me a present. This will determine if you're apart of the family or not." She made up. Both Shai and Dess chuckling at her ridiculous claim. However, Shai thought to keep it up just for the fun of it. He found Jenna cute and funny.

"So, if I buy you a present imma be apart of the family?" He asked for confirmation, Jenna nodding her head.

"Yup. So, are you going to buy me a present?" She asked again, moving the phone over so she was the only one in the camera.

Shai tapped his finger against his chin to make it seem like he was thinking about it. When in reality, he really didn't have an issue with buying her something for her birthday. If he was to do that, it'll be out of the kindness of his heart. Not to be accepting by Dess family.

"Aight, let's make a deal." He spoke, Dess leaning closer so she could be apart of this. How quickly their private conversation turned into birthday gift was quite interesting to her. Whatever was going on, she wanted it to stop in the next five minutes so she could have her alone time.

That's all she wanted.

"What kind of deal?"

"Hold on now." Shai told her, Jenna sighing. "Before I make this deal, how are your grades?"

"Terrible." Dess muttered, Jenna side-eyeing her. It was the truth but if having good grades meant she'll be gifted something then Jenna would do whatever.

"They're alright. I have C's." She truthfully told him.

Shai nodded his head and continued his deal making. "Aight so boom, if you can get your grades up to an A or a B then I'll buy you this really cool VR headset for your birthday. But, that's only if you're grades are an A or a B. Nothing less than that. Understood?" He negotiated.

Jenna tapped her chin, thinking of her options. Dess rolled her eyes at how dramatic her cousin was being. It was either a deal or it wasn't. Knowing Jenna, it was a deal for sure.

"Okay, deal. How will I get this gift?" Jenna responded, practically wanting it right now.

"I'll give it to Dess and she'll give it to you. But, that'll only happen if you're grades are good. If they aren't then that's nothing for you. Okay?" He asked again so they had an understanding.

Jenna nodded her head. "Yeah, I got it. Don't forget about my VR headset man!" She exclaimed right in Dess ear. Since she was already over the conversation and the interaction, Dess shoved Jenna's head away from her.

"Alright, we're done here. Get out!" Dess demanded, pointing at the door. Jenna opened her mouth to speak but Dess stopped her.

She repeated herself again to leave the room. Jenna not having any other choice but to listen. She said her goodbyes to Shai before getting off the bed and exiting the room. Finally, it was just Dess and Shai. Exactly how she wanted it. Dess rested her head on her pillow, her eyes slowly starting to get heavy as slumber approached.

"She's an interesting child." Shai mentioned, Dess slowly nodding her head.

"Yup...don't ever ignore me again like that though, Shai. I almost came through the phone and wrung your neck."

"Oh, I know."
