Beep Beep Beep.
I was immediately startled awake from the sound of my alarm going off. I wasn't ready to get up. It was way too early to wake up for school. I laid their in bed praying that it could magically become night again, however that obviously didn't happen. Instead my dad came into the room forcing me to get up. Well, he bribed me with cake for breakfast. He has a "special" way to parent, but I couldn't ask for a better adoptive father.
Yes, I'm adopted. When I was five years old my parents decided that I wasn't worth it. They left me at the doorstep of the orphanage. They definitely didn't win any parent awards.
I would lie in my lumpy bed and dream about the day I would finally be adopted. My favorite was a dream of a prince in a carriage coming to rescue me from that place. He would make me feel important, special, and most importantly, wanted.
Shawn Hunter was certainly not a prince, but saved me nonetheless. After two years at the orphanage, he came into the building, swept me off my feet, and brought me to his quaint apartment in Greenwich village, New York. We lived right down the hall from Cory Matthews and his family. There was a bubbly girl that was my age named Riley Matthews. We fit together like puzzle pieces. After only weeks of knowing each other, we were absolute best friends. We shared everything. Our rooms, our families, lip gloss, food from the refrigerator, and even our birthday parties. Since my birthday is December 4th and Rileys is December 8th, we decided to celebrate our birthdays together at one party. When a girl named Maya came through Riley's bay window, I was with her. We all became the best of friends. Maya was troublesome, Riley was bubbly, and I was a good mixture of both. It was a perfect match.
Together we made our way through elementary school. We met a weirdo kid named Farkle. I'm allowed to call him that because he is one of my best friends. He became in love with Riley and Maya, but me and him are only friends.
Years later, in 7th grade, we had a new addition to the group. Lucas Friar. We met him on the subway when I accidentally fell in his lap. His smile charmed me right away, but we always remained friends. However, the summer before 8th grade, I began to grow a crush on him. I hated that I did. I mean, what if he didn't like me. It would be so awkward. Or if we broke up. Then we would risk ruining everybody's friendship. I couldn't risk that. That's why I coudn't tell him. The only people who know are Riley, Maya, and Riley's litle brother Auggie. Auggie found out on accident, but it's okay because he hasn't told anyone yet. Me and him are so close. We are practically like siblings with all the time I spend with him.
"WAKEUP!" My father yells, distracting me from my thoughts.
"Yes Mufasa," I replied.
"If you want to get your cake, you better get your butt out of bed now!"
"Is it chocolate?" I questioned
"Obviously. Any other kind would be unacceptable to bribe you with."
"Well, you aren't wrong."
"Of course I'm not. I never am. Now get out of bed or no cake for you Pumpkin. It's your first day of highschool! My little angel is growing up too fast." He begins to fake cry and wipe an imaginary tear.
"Yes father." I groaned. I didn't want to get out of bed, but chocolate cake was worth it.
I got out of bed and got ready for the day. I ended my morning routine with a hype session. Today was going to have to be extra good if I was going to get through my first day at high school.
"Today is the day. I will conquer highschool with my friends by my side. I look hot and if Lucas can't see that, the fuck him. I am beautiful, I am kind, and I am hot as hell." It wasn't much, but when you are dancing along to heavy metal, it's a little hard to come up with the right words.
After my hype session, I began to run downstairs. However, half way down, I had to stop. I don't know what happened, but all the noise in the apartment quieted and there was a ringing sound in my head. It was so hypnotic that I just stood there.
"NESSA!" My dad yelled. Thankfully, this got me out of whatever state I was in. I assumed that it was just a weird ass headache that I got from the stress of starting highschool.
I didn't know how wrong I could possibly be.
