Carson pulled her suitcase into the New York hotel room, Jack right behind her. "I can't believe you really taking me to a red carpet event." Carson pushed her suitcase aside before stepping over it, she walked further into the room to explore it. Her weird flu had went away after a few days and she was back to bothering Jack on the daily by tagging along with him whenever she could.

"You would've jumped in my suitcase if I didn't invite you," Jack hit his hand on the light switch, flipping it on. He grabbed her bag and took both of their luggages over to the dresser, he left them right in front since he didn't feel like unpacking anything at the moment.

"Now we both know that's not true. It's the VMAs, not the Met Gala, I would've been fine watching it from my couch." She walked over to the window and pulled the curtains back so she could see outside.

He sat down on the edge of the bed, pulling down the zipper on his hoodie before pulling it off and draping it over his lap. "I liked you so much better when you were sick and quiet."

She turned on her heel to look at him, "Why are you always trying to silence a black woman? It's racist, Jack."

Jack scoffed and stood up, holding his hoodie in one hand, "I'm not trying to silence you because you're black. I'm trying to silence you because you're annoying."

Carson gasped and crossed her arms, they looked at each other for a few seconds before laughing together. She walked over and took the hoodie from his hand, she quickly put it on and zipped it up before going back over to the window. "It feels good to be back in the city." She pulled on the sleeves, pulling them over her hands.

"How can you enjoy being here? I saw rats having a threesome on the corner right before we got here." It was no secret that Jack didn't like rodents but with Carson being native to the big city, she paid no mind to them.

"They were fighting over a slice of pizza, not seducing each other." She pivoted to look at him. He had a frown plastered on his face which made Carson laugh, "Lighten up. They don't bother nobody."

"For some reason, I just don't believe you." He took a few steps back, walking to the bathroom. She followed after him, sitting on the counter as he lifted the toilet seat. "When are they bringing our outfits?" She asked, resting her back against the mirror.

"You know I can't pee with people around, why'd you follow me in here?" He looked over at her. Carson shrugged and then put her hands over her eyes.

"So, our outfits?" She asked again.

"Uh..." Carson heard the jangle of his belt before he spoke again. "In the morning. Neelam didn't trust me to have my suit overnight. I mean, a guy spills paint one a suit one time and everyone thinks I'm gonna do it again."

"I think one time was enough for her," She shrugged. When Jack didn't say anything, Carson slowly moved her hand away from her eyes only to have a towel thrown over her head. "Leave so I can pee." He demanded.

She pulled the towel off her head and jumped off the counter, "How is your bladder shy at this big age? Grow up." She scoffed as she left the bathroom.

"Fuck you!"

"You alright?" Carson asked Majesty as they sat on the balcony of the hotel just looking out over the city. Majesty was wrapped up in a blanket, smoking a blunt, in fact, this was her second blunt of the night.

"Yeah, why?" She cracked her neck, taking another pull from the Dutch in her hand as she pulled the blanket closer to her body.

"Well, you never really smoke and when you do, it's never like this. So, what's wrong?" Carson looked at her, setting her phone down in her lap.

Majesty sigh, "Just stressed. My momma and I had a argument about her health, and she completely blew me off and we haven't talked since and I'm getting worried," she mumbled.

"When's the last time y'all talked?"

"Two months ago," Majesty shrugged. "I tried calling her but she don't answer. And I refused to keep bothering someone who obviously doesn't wanna be bothered." Majesty shook her head. She loves her mom, but she wasn't going to beg nobody to speak to her.

Carson frowned. "What's wrong with her health?"

"The doctors found a lump in her left titty, and she doesn't wanna get the surgery because she's scared she's not going to wake up." Majesty took another drag from the blunt before throwing it off the balcony.

"Oh," Carson honestly didn't know what to say. "Maybe that's why she's distancing herself. Maybe that's her way of being stand-offish towards you so when she's gone it won't hurt as much." She shrugged, trying to understand Majesty's mothers point of view.

"Girl, I guess. That's kinda a dumb reason because either way ima be upset because we never got to spend this much amount of time together, and she just gone." Majesty clicked her acrylics together.

"Well, be lucky you even got to spend time with her. My mom was just selfish and died without warning," Carson looked over the railing of the balcony.

"Girl," Majesty couldn't help but to laugh. "Shut up."

Carson just shrugged as the balcony door slid open and Jack stuck his head out, "I set up the game," He gave her a goofy smile which Carson returned. She stood up and grabbed her water, Majesty was just watching them confusedly.

"What game?" Majesty sat up a bit, neither one of them answered as Carson continued to gather her items. "Guys.." She watched Jack go back inside and just two seconds later Carson followed behind him with a laugh. Right before the door closed Urban came out, he took the blunt from her hand and he sat down.

"What game is your friend playing with Carson?" Majesty looked at Urban who was frowning at the blunt between his fingers.

"Why you smokin' with lip gloss on?" He furrowed his eyebrows. She pulled the blanket over her eyes and sighed, "Nevermind, not a big deal." He mumbled, looking away.

Majesty sighed, rubbing her temples, "Sorry. My mom is just stressing me out." Not knowing what to say he passed the joint back to her silently, she wiped the gloss from her lips with her sleeve before putting it back between her lips.

"She's a stubborn bitch. I don't even know why I spend my time worrying about someone who won't even worry about herself, her and her lumpy boobs can rot in hell."

"Maj, you don't mean that." Urban looked down at his Private Garden ring, twisting it around his finger a few times.

"Of course I don't," She sniffed, tears ran down her face freely as she hide her face in the blanket, Urban just watched her with a soft expression. She sniffed a few times before lifting her head back up. Her face was flushed a light shade of pink and her eyes were bloodshot red. "Give me a minute," she mumbled standing up and walking inside, before completely walking out of the hotel room.

She wanted to be alone right now.

"It's green." Carson formed her lips into a thin line as she looked at her laid out dress on the bed. It was currently the morning of the VMS and her and Jacks outfit had just gotten dropped off. Jack looked over at Carson disappointed expression and laughed.

"It's not that bad," He laughed looking at his. Personally, he didn't find it that bad. He knew he was going to look good in it either way.

"It's...green." Carson repeated, she was was trying to comprehend why the actual hell out of her colors the could have chosen for her, they chose green.

Jack laughed even harder at her dramatics, "If you can't pull off green there's a black backup." He held up the second dress in his hand, it was the same exact style as the green one, it was just black. "Here, go ahead and be basic."

"Who the hell you callin' basic?" She snatched the green dress from him. "I can pull anything off, don't try me."

"Alright then," He shrugged with a grin.

"Alright then," She mimicked, tossing the dress down onto the bed. "Are you changing for your performance?"

He nodded, "Green leather doesn't fit in Nas' theme." Jack leaned against the dresser, scrolling through his phone. Carson just nodded trying to think of a way to pull off the green dress, she refused to go the simple route with the black one. "Why couldn't you just be like every other guy on a red carpet and wear a black suit?"

Two hours later Jack and Carson were walking the VMAs red carpet together, it was Carson's first event like this but she was fairly comfortable with all the flashes coming her way, mostly because Jack kept her mind off the fact that there was dozens of people with their attention on her. After laughing at another one of his jokes she playfully pushed him away, "You're not funny."

He smiled, grabbing her hand to pull her closer to him. "I told you that you could pull off the dress." Jack wrapped his arm around her shoulders as they walked along the carpet. The dress had perfectly matched his suit in color and it was strapless with a slit up the right leg. Carson had opted to wear the elbow length gloves that came in the garment bag with the dress. She paired it with silver jewelry and got a 30in body wave install to top it all off.

"It's still green," She shook her head. "Next time, I choose the color." She mumbled as Nas started walking towards them, "Hey y'all," he smiled and gave Carson a hug.

"Why did she get a hug first?" Jack rose an eyebrow as Nas just rolled his eyes and pulled Jack into a hug too. "Man, you look amazing tonight," Jack told his friend as he pulled out of the hug, keeping his hand on his side.

Nas fixed the train of his outfit, "Thank you." Carson reached up to push one of the curls off of his shoulders, "Yeah you're so pretty." She smiled.

"Are we plotting a threesome right now?" Jack smiled, resting his other hand on Carson's shoulder. She quickly pushed it off while Nas moved Jack's hand too. "Why are you always being sus?'

"What are you talking about? I was just making innocent conversation," Jack shrugged, dropping his hands by his sides.

Nas shook his head, "Your conversation is never innocent. Do I need to show Carson our DMs?" He asked, crossing his arms.

Carson held up a finger, "Uh, yeah, let me see the messages."

Jack grabbed her finger and just held it, "Don't hurt yourself, it's not worth it." Carson pulled her finger from his grasp as both of the men laughed, dapping each other up before Nas stepped back. "I'll see you inside." He told Jack before hugging Carson once more, "It was good seeing you." And with that he continued down the red carpet.

"I love that man," Jack watched him walk away with a smile on his face.

Carson was sitting on the edge of her seat, chewing on her acrylic nail. Jack had left nearly ten minutes ago to get ready for his performance and she thought he would've taken the stage by now but he hadn't.

She was two seconds away from calling him when she saw the curtain lift on the other side of the stage, a smile came across her lips when she saw Jack in his black jail costume, sitting in the jail cell. He had one of his hands in his hair like always, his other hand being occupied with a microphone.

Carson quickly grabbed her phone to take a picture of him, she thought it was the funniest thing that Nas had Jack sitting in a cell away from everyone else. As soon as she snapped the picture the lights in the theater turned off, being replaced with bright pink spotlights.

She set her phone aside so she could enjoy the performance. She was slightly upset that none of her friends could come along but she didn't let it stop her from enjoying the night. When Jack was let out of his cell Carson jumped to her feet, he looked great in his black jumpsuit and the crowd must've thought so too because the cheering got much louder once he was out.

"My track record so clean, they couldn't wait to just bash me." She rapped along with a smile, she couldn't have been prouder of Jack knowing how much hard work and effort he put to be on a stage like this. As he rapped his verse he moved to the edge of the stage, like always, which Carson hated but he would learn one day.

"I sent her back to her boyfriend, with my handprint on her-" Everyone in the theater clapped at the same time as Jack and Nas did, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The performance ended and Jack went backstage to change back into his suit before going back to his seat where Carson was.

She wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug, "You did so good"

He hugged her back and gave her temple a kiss before he pulled away so they could sit down, "Thank you, baby." He mumbled.

"Do we still have to stay now that you've performed?" She asked, crossing her ankles.

"Yeah, you don't just leave in the middle of the show." He chuckled as he took her hand in his.

"Damn, I thought it was almost over." She squeezed his hand before sliding his ring off his finger and putting it on her own.

"It is, just a few more minutes." He watched as she put the ring on. "You want one?"

She looked over at him, "You know I would lose it. I don't want you to even waste your money on it." She glanced back down at the ring she had positioned on her pinky.

He poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue, "I'm gonna get you one anyway. The guys think it's a good idea."

"You asked them before asking me?" Carson looked at him.

"Yeah," He said simply before turning his attention back to the stage where they were announcing another award, because they were talking he had completely missed what category it was.

Carson gave him back the ring before grabbing her phone and unlocking it so she could see the pictures she had taken before the Industry Baby performance. Before she could open her photos Jack took her phone from her and slid it into his pocket. "Pay attention," He said softly, ignoring the look that she was giving him.

"I hate you."
