I lie cuddled up into Scout's side as he snores quietly. We both were on my bed as Carmen laid on my carpeted floor reading a magazine.

I had recently found out that Carmen and Scout were actually related. It made me realize how little I really knew about Scout.

I run my cold fingertip along the bridge of his nose and onto his lips. Still asleep he twitches his nose. This brings a smile onto my face. He was so mellow and gently as where Carmen was the complete opposite. She was reckless and chaotic. Don't get me wrong she always knew when she had to be serious and she's always there when you need her.

It had been 3 months since school had started. It was beginning to get cold. A lot had changed since summer. For instance, Red and Finn have made their relationship official. Scout and I on the other were taking things as slow as humanly possible. Red had completely cut me off. The only time we made any contact what so ever is the occasional stares.

"Hey what time is it?"ย  I casually ask Carmen. She lays her magazine on her chest and pulls up her sleeve.

"It's umm, 6:47. Yeah, 6:47." She nods her head in reassurance.

My eyes go wide as I jump off my bed and grab Scout's sweater that was lying on my desk chair. I grab my watch from my nightstand running down the stairs.

"What's up?" Carmen runs after me. I turn to look at her while trying to catch my breath.

"I'm late for my shift at the book store." I rush out trying to find the keys to the store on the plate of keys by the front door.

She nods while standing by the stairs. A groggy Scout walks down the stairs while wiping his eyes.

"Do you need a ride?" He offers while swatting away Carmen's hand from his hair. They biker quietly for a moment.

"Umm," I continue to look for the keys frantically. "Yes please." I nod my head finally finding the keys.

We pile into Scout's car as he speeds to the store. I look down at my watch to see how late I was.

Gasping I shut my eyes tightly.

"What?" Both Carmen and Scout question.

"It's barely 5, Carmen!" I yell turning around to see her. Her cheeks flare up as she raises her hands innocently.

Scout laughs while Carmen flips him off. We decide to kill time by going down to the arcade.ย

I observe how the small shops around town had already been decorated with fake cobwebs and other cheap decorations. It reminded me of how my grandma use to pride herself on the decoration of her small store. The small memory made me a bit sad. How things could change so quickly.

Scout interlaces our hands as we walk into the surprising calm environment. We take a seat at a booth. Carmen plays with the straw of her soda in boredom.

"Hey, Lana. Aren't your parents having that fancy dinner thing tonight?" Carmen questions. I roll my eyes and let out a sigh at the reminder.

"Yeah. My mom's making Finn and I go. He's bringing Red of course. The whole thing's going to be awkward." I huff grabbing Carmen's soda and taking a sip. She scrunches her nose smacking my hand.

"If you want I can go." Scout plays with the paper from the straw. I think for a bit.

Scout and I weren't even completely sure if we wanted to be together so taking him to meet my mom and Mr. Wolfhard was a big step I wasn't sure if I was ready to take. But, I didn't really care about what they had to say about Scout and our "not" relationship. Of course, they loved Red. My Mom already knew her but she said "oh you and Finn are perfect for each other. He's a respectable man Sadie I wouldn't let him go." I recall my mother's exact words.

It bothered me that Finn could do whatever he pleases and he got a gold star from my mom. Dr. Wolfhard really didn't give a shit what either of us did though.

Carmen clears her throat bringing me out of my thoughts. I nod my head giving him a warm smile.

"Yeah. I'd love that." I grab Scout's hand that was laying on the table.

"Ok." He gives me a dorky smile looking down.

"Ugh, you guys make me sick." Carmen says while pointing at her mouth with her tongue sticking out. She gets up walking off to talk to the boy behind the register.

Scout stands up to switch over to the seat across from me. He lays his head in his palms. I copy him and make a funny face making him chuckle.

"I should get to work." I sigh.

He nods his head sliding out of the booth. Extending his arm he helps me out fo the booth. We tell Carmen that we're leaving but she decides to stay with the blue-eyed boy.

The drive to the book store was quiet. But, a good, comfortable quiet. I constantly found myself watching Scout. The way he carried himself intrigued me. The way I knew nothing about him but was able to predict what he was about to do next.

It's as if we had something that tied us together it's odd. It sounds stupid I know but I feel like there's a connection between us that I am yet to figure out.

He parks his car across the street from the empty bookstore.

"Thanks." I smile leaning over giving him a short kiss on the cheek. He nods his head with a smile.

"What time should I get to your house?" He grabs my wrist stopping me from getting out of his car.

"Umm 8:30? I'm closing the store early tonight." I shrug my shoulders before climbing out of the car.
