Both Dr.Wolfhard and my Mother shift their attention to us standing in the doorway.

Dr. Wolfhard stands up putting his glass down onto the coffee table. The first thing I notice is his height he was a bit taller than Finn.

Unable to comprehend what was happening I looked over at Finn, but he was equally as confused.

"Finn? What are you doing here?" He questions his son.

I look over to my tipsy mom sipping her wine without a care in the world. It was almost as if I were watching my father sitting there drinking his evenings away.

"What are YOU doing here." Finn emphasis the "You".

"Well, I'm here to meet Lana." Both boys stare at each other standoffish.

Everything began to make sense. The late-night shifts and the constant sneaking in and out of the house at dawn. He was the reason my mother was almost never around and the reason she would admirer herself infront of the mirror longer then usual.

"Mom?" I ask stepping over to her slumped figure. She was wearing her fancy pearl earrings she wore to church or on our family dinners out. Her hair was up in a bun and she had red smudged lipstick. What a mess.

"Lana! Meet Eric Wolfhard. My fiancรฉ." She squeals holding up the rock on her finger. I stared at the rock on her finger for a moment. All I could think was of my father. She wasn't even properly divorced yet, but here she was getting married again.

"What?" Finn yells looking at my mother then back at me. I couldn't bring myself to say anything. My mother knew exactly what I was thinking because she only looked away from me.

"Why?" I step closer to her. Choosing my words carefully I tell her everything I was thinking. "Why are you doing this mom? Why didn't you for once consider my feelings before making this life changing decision that wouldn't only impact your life but mine. I don't know this man and you expect him to just be able to introduce himself to me and he will suddenly take up dad's spot. His spot in the couch, his spot in the family photos, his spot in the table?" I question her with tears in my eyes. I knew this man's intentions way before he had the opportunity to show them.

"Don't over react Lana. We'll be moving into his- well our home soon." She says struggling to stand up straight.

"This is crazy. I don't even know this man. I'm not leaving. This is my life too and I believe I should have a say in this." I protest.

"I didn't remember asking if you wanted to." She squeezes her head in anger. Her exact movements matching my father's whenever they would argue.

"But Dad. He's getting better. He promised he's getting better." I rush to her side kneeling in front of her. "He's going to come back for us mom. You can't just abandon him. He needs us. " I tried getting through my hot mess of a mother. I truly believed he was and I knew my mother was still in love with him. They both were still in love; my mother's eyes would soften whenever he would call she would wait around the phone waiting for that call. She looks at me with so much anger in her eyes. Grabbing my arm she drags me to the kitchen.

She puts her glass down and steps closer to me. I back up not knowing what to expect.ย

Before I could say anything else her hand crashes into my face making a loud splat noise as her boney hand makes contact with my wet cheek. My eyes widen with shock as I grab my cheek.

"Your father isn't getting better. Grow the hell up Lana. He doesn't want you. He never has. All he wants is money. It's foolish to ever think he may actually want a relationship with you." She spits at me with a serious tone scaring me half to death. I know I could blame it on the alcohol, but I'd only be lying to myself.

I watch her pick her glass back up and take a drink from it. She throws the glass into the sink shattering when it hits the wet metal. Nodding my head I turn around exiting the kitchen to find Finn waiting for me outside the door.

He wraps his arm around me helping me up the stairs and into my room. The last place I wanted to be. He shuts the door behind us. Picking up a backpack I begin to pack clothing into it anxiously opening and closing my drawers to grab things I'd need.

"Lana, what are you doing?" Finn questions standing behind watching my every move. I Ignore him and throw on a jacket.

"Lana, what the hell are you doing?" He raises his voice grabbing my arms. I look up at him seeing a worried expression on his pale face.

I try my hardest to keep my tears in.

"I have to go. I-l can't be here." My breath becomes shaky making my words come out in a stutter.

He runs his hands through his hair. The last thing I want is to be another burden to someone else, so I push through him and out my door. He follows close behind me calling my name. I pass my mother and Dr.Wolfhard talking in the living room. My mother turns to look at me and over to my backpack, she quickly looks away trying to look unfazed.

"Finn, honey, leave her it's just a tantrum. It'll pass." My mother says to Finn as I walk out the door slamming it behind me. But of course, it reopens and outrunning comes Finn.

He catches up to me standing in front of me stopping me from walking. "Where are you going?" He questions out of breath.

"I'm leaving." I shrug. In reality, I had nowhere to go and nobody waiting for me. I was completely alone. Pushing his arms away from me I continue to walk.

"Lana you're not thinking straight. Come on let's just talk about this." He pleads, watching me walk away from him.

"Please, you can't leave me alone with them." He shouts making me stop in my tracks. What kind of person would I be if I just left him to fend for himself; I wouldn't be able to bring him with me because I have nowhere to go.

I turn around walking back to him. He looks at me with his sad brown eyes. I drop my bag and slump down onto the curb.

"What are we going to do Finn?" I ask genuinely not knowing what to do. This didn't only effect me but him as well.

He shrugs taking a seat next to me. The street was empty, dark and cold. Everything looked dull.

"There's nothing we can do honestly. " I nod leaning my head on his shoulder. We sit in silence looking up at the stars.

I felt guilty for being selfish.

"Lana?" He questions laying his head over mine.

"Yeah?"

"If things don't get better, and you do decide to leave. Don't leave me," he whispers to me.

"Promise." I take his hand in mine.

Like it or not we were in it together. With no place to go and no one waiting for us.
