"Hey, mom this is Sadie." I introduce
Red to my mom sitting on the kitchen table painting her nails.

"Hello, it's nice to meet you," Sadie speaks timidly hiding behind me. It was a drastic change to the person I had been with nearly a few moments ago. It made me smile though.

"Hey, Sadie." My mom smiles trying to peak over my shoulder.

"Mom, do you think it's alright if I sleep over at her house tonight?" I clasp my hands in front of my chest while giving her puppy dog eyes.

She nods, "Sure just make sure to leave me the phone number and address."

Sadie steps out from behind me with a big smile and thanks, my mom.

We run upstairs to get my clothes and toothbrush. I'm not going to lie it's my first time going to a sleepover. Sure I have friends but I usually skip the sleepovers and spend my nights watching shitty romcoms with my mom.

"I'm so excited my parents are going to love you." Sadie was now sitting on the handlebars while I peddled the yellow bike. I was pretty nervous, to say the least. I was pretty good with parents but there was always this little nagging voice in the back of my head contradicting everything I say or think.ย

"Lana, Lana Spring. It's a pleasure to meet you." I put my hand out for them to shake. A bit of conversation was shared between all four of us before we were excused to go up to Red's room.

"Holy- wow." I walk in slowly admiring the light green room. There were sheer sages colored curtains hung over the white windowsills along with beautiful photographs taped to the clean walls. I looked over at her bed which had a white comforter with sage pillows.

"I'm guessing you're favorite color is green." I chuckle taking a seat by her small wooden desk.

After a while of talking, we sat on her floor with a generous amount of tapes laid out in front of us. "This one my favorite." She says pulling out a Radiohead tape and placed it inside her Walkman. She shifted closer to me allowing me to get a good listen. A minute into the song she lays her head onto my shoulder.

My palms began to sweat and I get nervous, but I stay still. I know this is what girls usually do but it was still a bit strange. The song had ended and I now had my eyes shut. Sadie looked up at me and poked my nose. "How'd you like it?" She asked. It took me a second to process what she was saying.

"It's different. I've never heard anything like it. I really like it." I scrunch up my eyebrows. Picking up the case the tape was once in I read the song's titles. The first track was called Creep. Which I'm guessing was the song we just listened to.

We ended up listening to the Smiths and I was blown away. I was never big on music before because all my friends listened to was the Backstreet Boys, which never called my attention. But this was something else, it was...passionate. Is the only word I can use to describe it.

"Maybe we should go to bed before my mom has a fit." Red laughs stacking up her tapes into a show box.

We lay on her bed under the cool comforter. Everything was silent for a couple of minutes and I assumed Red had fallen asleep. Until she rolled over to face me. The moonlight bleeding through the window illuminated her features. Her eyelashes batted in a sleepy way.

She brought her fingertip up to my face and began to trace my eyebrows down to my lips. "You have really soft skin." She giggles into the pillow.

I'm taken back by her action. I just nod unable to respond.

She turns back around, now facing the ceiling. We both lay in silence once again. She takes my hand in her's and interlaces our fingers.

My heard begins to race as I feel my face flare up.
