WITHIN THE MONSTROUS TREES, A GIRL LAY FLAT ON THE COOL GREEN GRASS. With ribs shown through the white thin clothes accompanied by specs of dirt, she lay on the place where she first opened her eyes.

Within the monstrous trees, the single source of light shone from the highest point in the sky. With the height of the plants, black was the colour seen from the surface of the earth.

Within the towering walls, there stood a man with an expressionless expression, a man whose height was not needed to shine amongst the crowd.

Within the towering walls, the three adolescents mounted their respective horses and rode under the clear blue sky.

The ground rumbled as the horses galloped at full speed. The people emerged into groups, getting into formation as they rode through the outside world.

The green flare reached the sky, signifying a change of formation. "Oluo, you fire it," the captain said as he faced back to the front.

"Understood, sir!"

Eren had his eyebrows furrowed and sweat dripping down his cheek as he thought about the people in the front.

"Reporting, sir! It's an oral message!" a cadet said, riding his horse beside the captain, "Right-wing Scouts, decimated! Detection network, partially out! Please pass this message on to the left."

Eren's mouth hung open as he heard the news. "You heard him, Petra. Go," the captain ordered.

"Yes, sir!" And just as she rode away with her horse, black signals appeared, signifying them that an abnormal had been spotted.

"An Abnormal?" Eren muttered under his breath.

"Eren you fire it," Levi ordered, looking at him from the corner of his eye.

"Yes, sir!" he said, rummaging to get the flare gun.

"This is disgraceful," Levi quietly uttered, "We've let them get pretty deep inside the formation."

And under the shadows of the trees, they reached. With much caution, their thoughts ran back to the abnormal Titan not far behind them.

"Captain! Captain Levi!"

"What?"

"'What?' This is a forest, sir!" Eren stated in disbelief, "There's no way in detecting the approaching Titan this far in with only the centre rank! Something seems to be in our right too. How are we supposed to avoid Titans or protect the wagons now?"

"Quit whining about the obvious," his captain interrupted, "We can't do any of those things anymore."

"But... why?" Eren gasped, still staring at the captain's back.

"Take a good look around, Eren. See all these absurdly huge trees?" he asked, "This is the perfect environment for using omnidirectional mobility gear. And use that middling head of yours to think. Use your brain for once if you don't want to die."

"Yes, sir!" Eren let out, going back to think on his own. He looked towards his left and saw Oluo staring at his horse in confusion.

"Dang it. What are we doing here?" he muttered, "Seriously. What the heck is going on?"

That made Eren look through the faces of his fellow cadets. The confused yet alarmed expression they had told him all that he needed to know.

Neither of them knew what was happening.

Black smoke appeared from behind the group, alarming the soldiers.

"Draw your swords," the captain ordered, snatching his own sword in the process, "If it shows itself, we'll only have a moment."

They stared at him with wide eyes, anticipating the next order. And in the cue, the blonde-haired Titan appeared.

"Move!"

"Gunther!"

"Eren! Don't stop! Keep moving!" Oluo exclaimed whilst grabbing him.

"But Gunter-" he paused, "Who's that?"

"Protect Eren," Eld said.

"What now? Which way to go Eld?" Oluo cursed.

"There's no time to get to our horses! Head to the headquarters at full speed!" Eld commanded.

"Is that the female Titan's operator or was it someone else?" Oluo wondered.

"You'll pay for this!" Petra declared, "You're going down, even if I have to die too!"

The person with the hood on disappeared promptly and an explosion appeared.

"It's coming!" Eld warned as long blonde hair appeared in their vision, "The female Titan!"

She ran towards the group who were flying relentlessly through the trees, trying to get their way to the headquarters as ordered by Eld.

"How could you? This time I'll kill her myself!" Eren shouted, facing her.

"No!" Eld stopped, "The three of us will take her down! You just keep heading towards the headquarters as fast as you can!"

Eren, with much hesitance, turned back towards the direction they were previously heading in.

"I have faith in our squad's victory! Good luck!" he said, before flying away.

The statement made the other three more determined to win against the abnormal Titan as they headed towards it.

But luck was not with them. And to add to the chaos, Eren turned into his own Titan form to fight the female one.

Roaring noises were heard. But it was all muted for the girl. She trembled inside the place.

Hunger. Cold. And fear. Was all that she felt in the cramped place.

Mikasa flew after the running Titan after she saw her adoptive brother get eaten by it.

"Give Eren..." Mikasa muttered with a cold glare, "Give Eren back!"

She sliced the titan's cheek as the monster held onto her nape to prevent it from being sliced. She continued slicing the Titan in different parts of her exposed muscles.

"Why can't my blades penetrate?" she thought out loud and the Titan faced her, "He is alive. Eren is alive!"

"Stay back for now," Levi said, carrying the girl along with him, "Maintain this distance. She must be worn out too. She is slowing down."

"He seems fine," Levi assured, "He's filthy but alive."

Mikasa looked at the unconscious boy in relief, staying silent as she continued to stare.

The two Ackermans flew through the woods once more. The captain peered from the corner of his eye towards the right and paused, causing the female to stop as well.

She glanced towards where he was looking and saw the peculiarly shaped trunk of a tall, large tree.

"Head back," he commanded, "Don't wait for me."

Levi handed over the boy to Mikasa and flew towards the tree.

He stood in front of the trunk. The trunk was covered with clear crystal. Inside was a girl. He bent his knees and squatted down, examining the female.

The girl looked at him with a fearful expression. Wide eyes and trembling body.

The captain looked at her with his eyes slightly wider than usual, though not enough to be visible.

She had her body hugged by her frail arms and clothes that reached down to her knees. Dirtied h/c hair reached her elbows and teary e/c orbed eyes.

The eyes of a weak girl and humanity's strongest soldier met, making the e/c eyes glinting ever so slightly for she knew she was saved.

Author's Note: Once again, this is a Levi Ackerman x female reader with she/her pronouns fanfiction.
