~DABI~

"Who the fuck do you think you are talking about her like that?" Chika screamed at her and the whispers erupted more into noise from the girls.

Funmi looked like someone that had just been slapped across the face, and I muttered curses under my breath.

"Y'all should really be ashamed of your shallow selves," Chika spat in disgust at the girls.

The room's temperature had already dropped drastically and her voice was the only thing resounding, over and over, and boy, she was adamant on clearing these girls up.

"And so what if Miranda's hair is fake? How is that supposed to be your business?!" She screamed at Funmi particularly.

"Chika-"

"No, tell me. All of you, tell me!" Chika cut Funmi off, gesturing towards all the girls at that part of the room, and Lord, they were so shocked.

"Are you the one carrying the hair on your head? Are you? So, WHY do you all attach so much of your time to other people's business, instead of focusing on the betterment of your own lives? Will Miranda's hair earn you a grammy or will it earn you more money?" Chika did not stop reprimanding them.

Infact, she looked like she was only starting.

I noticed the hard glare on the faces of KT and her clique that was zeroed on Chika, shooting out venom on the girl who was probably too furious to even notice them.

Why Chika was taking this so seriously...

Why she always took things like this so seriously...

"Why?! Why?!"

She wasn't done.

"WHY are you all so OBSESSED with other people's lives?!! Why are you so intensely addicted to a life that does not add a penny to yours? Are you really that BORED with your own lives that you HAVE to look for what to keep you busy in other people's lives?" Chika bellowed.

The girls looked so insulted. Funmi looked completely shocked and embarrassed. Winnie was silent, just watching silently.

KT and her clique? They looked like they wanted to rip Chika in half.

I was scared. So, so scared.

"You all clearly don't have a life." Chika said, scoffed. I winced, she continued, "Because only people who don't have lives care so much about other peoples' lives. So, congratulations, Funmi and co. A big congratulations to you for giving away the fact that your lives are indeed empty!"

Even if none of these girls said anything in defence, I saw the look of hurt that sparked for a second, in the eyes of some of them, and when I thought Chika was going to stop talking, she further went on to imitate Funmi's voice from earlier, when she made fun of Miranda, "Pathetic."

I actually winced.

"Chika, why- why are you t-talking to me like that?" Funmi's whisper-tone voice shook as the fear and obvious embarrassment sipped into her semi-defensive tone.

Of course, Funmi was afraid.

Putting aside the fact that Chika was capable of smashing her face in, Funmi, being one of the students of Castron High, was well aware of the most glaring invisible rule yet. The one that made it clear enough that, even if you were 'worthy', there still were some people who you should not cross. Everyone knew their limits, so there was no need going beyond it and crossing the line, as it would be equivalent to social suicide.

Funmi understood that fact perfectly.

"I'll talk to you however I like, and say whatever shit I have to say to your hearing, and there's nothing you can do about it, Balewa," Chika retorted, "After all, isn't that what you did to Miranda?"

I looked to the girl in question, who this wahala was all about. Miranda. She just sat there, on that isolated bed of hers, a tiny smile of appreciation, forming at the corner of her lips as Chika was defending her.

I smiled too. I knew exactly how that made her feel. There was nothing like having someone have your back and that - this, was exactly what Chika had also done for me in Junior school.

"Shame on you all." Chika's voice was calmer now, as she observed all the girls , one by one, making sure to pass down the guilt, the shame, the embarrassment, into each and every one of their souls.

"Shame on you for thinking it's okay to look down on people, because somehow, they're unable to afford the kind of things you buy. Shame on you all for making a fellow girl, a fellow woman like you...", Hardened eyes narrowed at them, ".. feel so low."

I don't even know how people like these girls looked themselves in the mirror and prided in themselves, when in reality, there were just a bunch of fucked up people with even more fucked up mentalities.

"I feel so bad for you all," Chika continued, laughed to herself as she was in thoughts now, voicing them out, "Imagine living life, believing that all there is to it is money and material things. Imagine believing that money is the only source to true happiness. Imagine having to believe that money is everything in life...."

She shook her head in pity, continued, "You haven't experienced real happiness, real joy, or even true and pure love, if that's what you think. And, I feel so bad for you that you have to miss out so much on the real, beautiful things of life-"

I felt that.

My life has never been perfect, even if my dad owned nearly all the money and luxury in the world. I find it hard to believe that even my father has ultimate happiness, even with the billions he had in his account. If he did, he wouldn't constantly be bitter the way he was all the time. He wouldn't always be out all night, drinking away his sorrows. Even with all those billions, he still had demons to fight.

Even the richest people in the world still end their own lives. There was nothing as comforting as one's peace.

Imagine a friendship like the one I had with the sisters. One that always knew how to relieve me of every stress from home. One that served as an escape means for me. Even if I had all the money in the world and lived in a such a broken home, I would have been unhappy. But these girls - Chika, Soma, Ebere, and Ebube - gave me a reason to smile, amidst my sorrow.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd pick that peace, happiness and love over a million dollars. And indeed, I felt sorry for anyone who was missing out on such a beautiful experience, just because they believed money was everything.

"..Infact, what's my business sef?" Chika's voice pulled me into reality again. "Y'all can keep fooling yourselves thinking you're living your best life. Keep fooling yourselves with the mentality that what you own is all that matters, and that you're excused to be a bitch for that sake. I haven't seen bigger clowns than all of you."

I hear muttered sounds of exclamations, coming from the girls and I knew that this last thing Chika said had hit different.

None of them said anything in defence. None. Of course, they couldn't have said anything reasonable in defence. And even if they did, they didn't have the courage to say it - not when they were well aware of the invisible rules.

They wouldn't even dare speak against Chika.

However..

KT and her clique were not quite conversant with how things work around here.

That's why even when Chika scoffed, shook her head in disgust, and turned to walk away, she refused let it slide so easily.

KT charged towards Chika, getting all up in her face and screaming, "Who do you think you are talking to us like that?"

The room was instantly on fire.

A confused scowl was on Chika's face as she watched the raging, light skinned Maranatha Queen, going bat shit crazy on her, looking like she was ready to get violent, and scratch Chika's face with those long nails.

Oh, God. Things were escalating quickly.

My heart started to explode.

Chika didn't even budge. Didn't even move back or feel threatened, considering KT's face was so close to hers'. She only stared at her, with a raised brow, and I could have sworn, I saw a corner of her lips were struggling to stop that amused smile from showing it's full self.

"KT, let it be," That was Winnie, pleading.

"Oh hell no, someone needs to set this bitch straight!" KT was screaming into an amused Chika's face.

"This is getting out of control," Soma whimpered beside me, and the twins were silently spectating, murderous glares shooting at KT.

"Stay put, Soma." Ebere held onto Soma's hand, stopping her from going in-between the war.

"I'd love to watch Chi break that bitch's neck." She glared at KT.

I knew. I knew the twins wanted to rip KT and her clique to shreds themselves.... but I knew the EXACT reason they weren't acting up and getting into the matter, like they normally would have.

It was because of their pledges.

KT was sizing up to Chika, nose almost touching hers' as she looked her straight in the eyes, daring her to do something.

"I think you should take a step back, Katherine." Chika calmly spoke into KT's face that was close to hers'.

Chills ran through me... The calmness in Chika's voice... It scared me.

"Or what?" KT tilted her face, challenged the girl to do something about it, got even closer - if that was possible.

"It's for your own safety." Chika calmly responded.

Shit.

God, don't let this escalate, please...

I wouldn't be able to watch this...

Chika would cream her...

"Such confidence you have," KT scoffed in her face, "Look around you, b. Take a look around."

I don't know if Chika looked, but I did.

Girls, no, an army was behind KT - an army of girls who I knew would do anything for her, even if it meant getting into a physical brawl, right here, right now.

I wondered why Chika didn't look bothered. Not one bit.

Did she really think she could take them all at the same time?

"Yeah?" Chika boredly glanced around, to the girls behind KT, for the count of a second, "I've looked -"

So confident.

"-and I don't see much." She completed, shrugged easily, and my heart dropped to the fucking floor.

KT actually took a step back, two steps, three steps back, momentarily stunned by Chika's comeback...

Then the next thing...

She.... laughed?

What? She was laughing. KT was laughing. As in, holding her tummy and throwing her head back and laughing.

Chika wasn't laughing.

"She's very confident, she's so confident!" KT was telling her friends, laughing about it, and I had a very bad feeling about this already.

A very bad feeling.

Putting aside the fact that these girls could be a direct physical threat right now, KT and her clique were very privileged children.

All those girls had parents who were placed in the high ranks of politics in this country - people who could easily fuck you up in the blink of an eye.

KT, herself, was the daughter to the ex governor of this very state, so this confidence Chika was having, wasn't seating well with me.

"Babe, don't start something you won't finish, you have no idea what I'm capable of doing to you." KT said to Chika.

I swallowed.

"You can't imagine it, I guarantee you." She continued.

"Seems to me like you're more of a talker," Chika retorted easily.

My God, Chi, just let this go.

Instead, she smiled a sharp, catchy smile I knew was intended to spite KT and added, "I'm not afraid of you, Katherine Bello."

The room became hotter.

"YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I CAN DO TO YOU!" KT screamed at her, and woah, she took that personal.

She was livid now, even more angry than she was before. Her hands were vibrating with rage, I didn't know if it was attempt to scare Chika off, or if she was controlling herself from lashing out on her.

God, this girl is an animal.

"You have NO idea, I swear you don't!" She was screaming, "I'm worse! WORSE! WORSE than that little Giwa Falade all of you are OBSESSED with in this school!"

"KT, chill," Funmi quickly came in to hold her, as though trying to stop her from saying something, but KT pushed the light skinned girl away from her and she fell on the bed roughly.

Chika's smile was more vivid now, spread out in more amusement as she watched the raging mad animal infront of her.

I was so scared.

"Now, I know what this is about," Chika actually laughed, "I get it now."

"Chika.." Soma tried to call out to her. The twins held Soma.

"Our Giwa Falade is a threat to you, isn't she?" Chika went on, nontheless, speaking the hard truth straight to KT.

Shit.

"This drama you're putting up now is just a means to prove some sick point against her, ba?" Chika was still talking, my heart was still beating, "Well, Giwa will be here soon, I heard she's coming. Why don't you directly face her and show everyone what you're really made of, K?"

Chika's words were like a bullet to KT.

Would she even want to cross Giwa again? After what happened last year? After what Giwa did to her last year in Casper's party?

"I'm not proving myself against anyone!" KT screamed at Chika who just laughed at her meaningless rage.

"You know?" Chika shook her head, put a hand to her chin feigning a thinking face that I knew was a disguised taunt. "Isn't it funny though?"

Where was she heading at?

"You happen to care so much about Giwa Falade. Know so much about her... And.." she twitched a mocking smile at KT, "I'm pretty sure she doesn't even remember or know who the fuck you're supposed to be."

Shit.

"EVERYONE KNOWS WHO I AM!" KT was nearly losing her mind.

"Everyone, except Giwa Falade." Chika's reply was calm and subtle, I knew exactly what she was doing. She knew exactly what she was doing too.

"Yeah.." Chika nodded, wasn't even done. "I can bet you that Falade would walk into this party completely oblivious to the fact that Maranatha students are even in existence, come to talk of acknowledging you."

"Stop." KT was at the brink of her sanity, sweat on her forehead, anger oozing off her like smoke, "I'm warning you, stop."

"Sad," Chika laughed under her breath.

Oh, God.

"Sad, because you know what Giwa is to you? A huge, sickening threat... but you know what you are to her?" Chika raised her brows, her mouth shaped to say the next word --

Chika, chill please.

"- irrelevant." Chika said the word, clearly, spelt it out for KT to sink it in.

Once again.... Shit.

Well, as expected, KT lost it, charged towards Chika like a red bull.

I watched, as girls in the room, mostly from our school, rushed to hold a thrashing, raging, out of control KT.

Chika stood still, watching her, unmoved, blinking in boredom at the scene.

Soma stood up in alarm, rushing in panic, towards Chika, and the twins stayed put, glaring at the scene, looking like they wouldn't still care even if a fire broke out in the middle of it - looking like their utmost desire was to see Chika strangle the life out of KT.

I wasn't sure how to act... My body suddenly was on the edge. I reached out, grabbed a pair of scissors on the desk where Soma had dumped her bag, and I held onto the scissors... just in case.

I wasn't sure why I held the scissors... I just felt the need to.

KT was MAD!

"Who the fuck do you think you are talking to me like that? Who are you? Who you be? They born you well?? You dey craze??!!!! WHO'S YOUR DADDY?! WHO YOUR DADDY BE? WHO YOUR PAPA!?"

Oh, Lord.

"You wan fight me?" Chika was laughing now, gladly spreading out her armsbto the girl to charge at her if she wanted.

I was shaking. Literally, I was vibrating.

"You people should leave her, abi she wants to fight, allow her to fight naw," Chika was basically laughing her ass off now, like KT's anger was fuelling her with intense amusement. Like it was a comedy show.

"Chika, don't do this!" Soma pleaded.

The girls only left KT when she seemed to calm down a bit, even though her chest was still heaving with mad anger.

"Don't get into a fight, Chi. It's unnecessary," Soma pleaded with her.

Chika and KT were in a glare down. Or atleast, KT was involved in the glare down, Chika looked impassive as fuck.

I only gave a sigh of relief when Chika said, "Relax, Soma. I'm not going to touch her."

Relief washed through me.

"I'd kill her if I did." Chika sounded too sure of the fact as she briefly looked the angry girl's stature.

There was something about her calmness that scared me.... Probably even scared KT too. She wasn't charging towards Chika anymore, even though no one was holding her back anymore.

"This isn't over." KT said, muttered audibly to herself and goosebumps formed on my skin at the certainty in her voice.

"This isn't over." She said again, out loud now to Chika's hearing, to everyone's hearing.

"Your name is Chika, right?" KT smiled at an unfazed Chika, looked briefly to Soma who had revealed it so, and a confused, panicking Soma looked nervously between the two girls, Chika and KT, and I thought the poor girl would die of a heart attack.

"I won't forget your face, Chika. I won't forget this day either, and I swear to you, you are going to regret ever crossing me this night. You are going to eat all those words you said to me. I will make sure you fucking pay."

My heart beat raced more, and I clutched the scissors in my hand tight, tight, tighter.

"I will make you pay, Chika," KT repeated her words, looked over Chika briefly and added, "Mark my words, bitch."

That was the last thing she said before they walked out of the room

I couldn't stop shaking. Something about the way KT said that... unsettled me.

Something felt wrong with how KT and her friends left. Something felt very wrong, and I was anything but comfortable.

The room was akwardly quiet after they left.

"Do you even know how hard that was?"

Ebere was the one who spoke, breaking the silence of the atmosphere, and causing heads in the room to turn to us.

I knew she was only talking to us, so I didn't understand why every girl in the room was attentive too.

Ebere didn't even give a shit.

"Do you know how hard it was for me to sit here and watch that bitch run her damn mouth?" She said again, and I heard little, oh so little murmurs, coming from the spectating girls in the room.

Ebube wasn't even saying anything, I watched her as she glared still, with eyes filled with a burning rage and resentment, towards the door - the door that KT and her friends had already left through. She still stared at it.... And there was something sinister, something dangerous about that look.

Something was on Ebube's mind.

"Are you okay?" I asked softly, tapping her shoulder lightly to get her attention.

She didn't move for three seconds.

"Yes." Was all she said when she finally did move, turned back to us, and she said absolutely nothing
