"he doesn't love me." santana mumbled to herself as she sat on the bathroom floor leaned against the tub.

"he doesn't love me," she repeated again this time as tears swelled in her eyes.

today was the day of her adoption anniversary and clearly she wasn't handling it all to well. her anxiety was through the roof and depressive thoughts crept as a predator does to its prey.

more vulnerable than ever, she felt weak and cradles into herself as she began to hyperventilate. a ringing shriek pierced her ears causing her to cover them in her defenseless state.

still on the floor, her vision blurred and after awhile she saw darkness. in this state her body was still in the realm but her mind was in another.

"tana come on!" the now, small girl hopped up from the floor and ran down the hall of creaking hood.

"stop all that runnin!" joyce called out from the kitchen.

"sorry mama joyce," santana apologized and transitioned to a speed walk outside the front door.

"finally," kass mumbled.

"where we goin?" santana asked the older girl.

"why you ask so much questions? you wanted to come, right?" kass fussed.

"sorry, dang." santana rolled her eyes and followed
kass's strides down the side walk.

"so how's school?" kass asked as they made it to a stop sign.

santana shrugged, "good, i guess."

"i mean i'm doin okay in my classes, but the kids there are mean kass."

kass looked down at santana's short frame, "mean? they be pickin with you tana?"

"well, yeah. especially after they found out i ain't have parents," santana said while kicking the small rocks in front of her feet.

"sayin stuff like what?"

"this one girl told me that my real mama and daddy didn't love me, so that's why they gave me away,"

"that's not true tana, they gonna come back eventually." kass said trying to reassure santana and even more, herself.

"but when? i'm starting to forget what they look like, kass." santana stuffed her hands in her pockets.

"they will and you'll know it's them even if you forget, because they live here." kass pointed to santana's heart.

"and don't listen to them stupid ass kids, they barely even got parents of they own. you got me so it don't matter no more,"

"i love you kassidy."

"i love you too tana,"

like tv static this memory faded as another appeared and the darkness grew making it harder to see.

"stop it! i don't wanna go," santana resisted as her social worker guided her to the car.

"kassidy!" she called out.

"ms joyce, you just gone let them take her?" kass asked as tears streamed down her face.

"she's a problem kass, that little girl ain't no good," joyce said.

kassidy ran outside as santana managed to get out of the tight hold and went straight for kassidy's arms.

"you can't let them take me away," santana cried.

"just promise me you'll be good, i promise i'll see you again." kass said trying to reason.

"promise me santana,"

"i promise." santana mumbled before more tears fell.

"alright let's go,"

"kassidy!"

and like the click of a button, kassidy was gone just like her parents and although she promised, kassidy never did see santana again.

santana was lost and hurt, she felt as though everyone was right. she was unloveable, she was no good, just a clearance only to picked last.

by the time she was eleven, she had been in and out of foster homes, many over her age and the system wanted less and less to do with her.

her attitude had become worst and she was a runner, any feeling of disappointment or lost hope; she ran. no where particular, but she always hoped to run into her parents or even kas as she went city to city.

never successful, but she hoped.

"are you sure this is somethin we wanna do?" xavier asked ryan who shrugged.

"it's somethin i wanna do, you either with me or you ain't." he said.

"don't do that because you know i support everything you do, but this is serious. we gone be parents, ry." xavier said softly.

"and we're ready." ryan said to his husband who held his hand as they signed the papers.

"perfect, let's meet in the dining hall. be patient with her, please." both gentlemen nodded and headed to the dining hall as instructed.

anticipation grew, but the sounds of footsteps eased their thoughts.

"ryan, xavier, meet santana." leigh anne introduced the trio and it was a bundle of mixed emotions.

"i'm ryan and this is my husband, xavier. we're so happy we finally get to meet you!" ryan said as his excitement took over.

santana stayed silent as she scanned over the couple who had pretty much just took her in willingly without force from the government or as a charity case unlike other homes she's been to.

"right.." she trailed off.

"can i get a hug?" ryan asked as he teared up.

santana stepped into his arms and his fresh scent made her feel safe, the darkness started to clear and suddenly everything wasn't as foggy as it was.

"tana, baby- baby wake up." elijah shook her body as he grew into a panic.

slowly, her eyes opened as they adjusted to the light.

"wassup witchu man? i was bout ready ta call the police and you know ion fuck wit them," elijah said as his accent began to voice itself.

santana laughed lightly before lifting herself up with his help, "i'm sorry."

elijah shook his head, "talk ta me."

he sat on the floor and threw his arm around her shoulder and brought her in close to his chest.

"today's that day." she mumbled while looking down.

"i don't even know what happened." she said.

"you scared the shit outta me, i know that much." elijah expressed.

"i didn't mean to, i just- i let my thoughts take over and i guess i blacked out." santana said trying to explain.

"i was thinkin all kinds of stuff, but i wanna believe its not true. elijah- do you love me? like truthfully," santana had fixed herself so she could see his eyes.

"i love you more than i love myself and i mean that with every bone in my body. what we got is somethin i don't want with nobody else, and you- i don't want nobody else but you."

"it might be corny, but i see a future every time i look at you. i see our future, together. it's so much i wanna accomplish but i want you right thea with me."

"whatever it is you may think, i'm not leavin. i love you and that's enough fa me." elijah had said as the sincerity in his voice evident.

he wiped santana's tears and placed his lips to her forehead gently before holding her in his arms.

her cries turned into slumber after awhile and elijah had taken her body to their bedroom, placing her in the middle of the bed they shared.

"elijah," santana muttered.

"wassup?"

"thank you,"
