They say your life flashes before your eyes and all the memories you have ever made comes rushing back to you. Yeah, that shit didn't happen to me.

I just see white so maybe I'm not dead. I can't feel anything too.

A hear a voice echo into my ear but I can't fully register who it is. They speak again so I groan and groggily open my eyes. I squint my eyes to adjust to the bright light beaming on my face.

"Finally!" I hear someone say I turn my head to the side and see Alea grinning at me.

"How long was I out for?" I rasp, rubbing my eyes and stretching.

"An hour. You have surgery in two." She says, giving me a bottle of water. I thank her and take a sip of it before putting it to the side.

I scan the room and furrows my eyebrows. "Where's Ac-"

The room door flies open.

"RIVERβ€” Riverβ€”"

I turn my head to the side.

Ace is standing there, face flushed, chest rising and falling, staring at me like I might be a ghost. His brunette hair was wet along with his clothes as I can see his defined muscles through the thin layer of clothing he was wearing.

He strides across the room before I get a chance to say a word and cups my face in his hands, his eyes searching me. "Are you okay?" He says. "Godβ€”areΒ  you okay? What happened? Are you all right?"

And here he is.

"What the hell happened to you?" I say, gaping at his drenched state.

He wraps me up in his arms, not bothering to answer me. He just holds me, one arm tight
around my waist, the other held to the back of my head. My face is buried in his chest and the warmth of him is so familiar to me now. Comfort.

He runs his hands up and down my back, tilting his head down to mine. "You scared me." He says out of breath and kisses the top of my head.

I pull back and gaze up at him. "What the hell happened to you?" I repeat.

He sighs and leans his forehead against mine. "There was traffic so I left Theo in the car and ran here. Then it started to storm," He steps back, waving his hand over his attire, "as you can see."

"You ran.. You.." I gape at him. "You idiot!" I scold him as my gaze turns into a glare.

"What? Why?" He furrows his eyebrows.

"What if you catch a cold?" I scowl at him andΒ  smack the back of his head.

"I thought I lost you, River. What was I suppose to do? Sit around and wait in the fucking car?" He scoffs, rolling his eyes.

I sigh and wrap my arms around his neck. "That was incredibly stupid of you, Ace."

"I'll do it again." He says sternly.

My husband is the type of person who would do that shit again. One day I will get a heart attack because of this man.

I roll my eyes at him but he just kisses my cheek and sits in the chair beside the bed.

"I'm getting the doctor." Alea says, getting up from her seat and walking out the door.

"What happened?" Ace says, brushing hair away from my forehead and intertwining his hands with mine.

"Ivan and his stupid little goons." I say, rolling my eyes and leaning my head against his shoulders. "They ran away before I could kill their asses."

"How many were there?" He says, his voice oddly calm.

"Five. Killed three. Other two escaped." I say, yawning and resting my chin on his shoulder as he hums.

He turns his face to the side and kisses my forehead as I close my eyes, sighing softly.

"Can I get you anything, baby?" He says softly.

"Strawberry ice cream, skittles and peanut butter." I say, furrowing my eyebrows when he gives me a 'the fuck is wrong with you'Β  look. "What? I want it now go get it." I scoff, pushing him away.

"Okay weirdo." He chuckles and pecks my cheeks before leaving the room.

I grin and lean my head back against the pillow. The door suddenly opens again and the doctor walks in with Alea.

"Mrs Del Rosso, how are you feeling?" She says, smiling at me as she checks my vitals.

"Just tired." I say, sitting myself up slightly with Alea's help.

She nods her head and writes something down in the notebook in her hands. "Your surgery will be in half an hour," She meets my gaze briefly before giving me a tight lipped smile, "I'll come back when it's ready."

And with that, she leaves.

"I'll go back to the house and grab your clothes." Alea says, putting my hair in a bun for me. "Rest River and I mean it." She gives me a pointed look and I roll my eyes as she leaves.

"They didn't have peanut butter darling, I'm sorry." Ace says, walking into the room and giving me my food.

"That was the best bit." I groan but take the food anyways after giving him a kiss as a thank you.

"I'll get you some tomorrow, love." He sighs, sitting back down in the chair and ruffling his hair.

"You better." I say, my voice muffled by the ice cream in my mouth.

He chuckles and shakes his head slightly. "What did the doctor say?"

"I've got surgery in half an hour."

He hums and slips his hand under the covers, resting his palm on my bare stomach as he kisses the tip of my nose.

The room door flies open again.

"Ace! You motherfuβ€”River! My sugarplum, are you okay?" Theo gasps, rushing over to me and cupping my head in his hands as I glare at him.

"First of all, stop calling me that." I scoff. "Second of all take your hands of mβ€”"

"Take your hands off my wife." Ace sneers, glaring at Theo.

"Shut the fuck up no one was asking you." He scoffs, glaring at him before turning his attention back to me. "Are you okay?" He says softly, moving his hands away. I sigh and nod my head, watching a grin take over his face as he ruffles my hair. "You gave me a heart attack."

"I gave everyone a heart attack." I say, laying my head on Ace's chest when he gets into bed with me. He wraps his arms firmly around me, making sure to be gentle where my wound is, and kisses the top of my head as he rubs my lower back soothingly.

"Well on the bright side we have those men in our holding cells." He says, sitting down in the seat next to the bed.

"Keep them alive." Ace orders.

"Obviously. I want my fun too." Theo says with an evil glint. Theo's definition of fun is the same definition as mine. Murder.

Is it psychotic? No. Maybe. Yes.

The door opens again and Alea walks in with bags of McDonald's along with my clothes.

"You Goddess." Theo grins and takes the food of her before sitting himself down on the couch. She rolls her eyes at him and gives me my clothes as I thank her. We eat our food and talk about anything and everything.

I turn my attention away from the conversation and look up at Ace, finding him typing something on his phone. I kiss the corner of his mouth, gaining his attention as he turns his head to the side with a small smile. I put a fry up to his mouth so he slowly opens his mouth and eats it, holding eye contact. My eyes drop down to his mouth as he licks his lips slowly. Then I look back up at him to find he was already looking at me with a mischievous glint in his forest eyes.

My cheeks flush when his lips curl upwards at the corners along with his tongue. That damn smirk.

He runs his thumb along my bottom lip and leans his forehead against mine. "You know what'll happen if you keep looking at me like that, malyshka." He whispers, his minty breath fans against my lips.

I bite my bottom lip and clench my thighs together at the tone of his voice. I stare into his green eyes as the air around us thickens. His dark gaze drops down to my lips as he runs his tongue along the corner of his mouth.

I lean up and brush my lips over his, smirking when his breath hitches slightly. His mouth parts as he leans into me. Our noses brushes against each other's and our foreheads touch. His lips were a breath away from mine.

So close.

Then the fucking door flies open again. Seriously, what is with people and flying this damn door open?

"Your surgery is ready, Mrs Del Rosso." The doctors says from the doorway.

"Alright, thank you." I say.

He nods and leaves the room as I turn my attention back to Ace.

"Mrs Del Rosso, hm?" He chuckles deeply into my ear.

"I am unfortunately your wife." I sigh deeply, shaking my head.

"Unfortunately." He smiles against my skin as I feel my lips curve upwards.

"You're gonna catch a cold." I sigh, looking down at his damp clothes. He's such an idiot.

My idiot.

"I'll change when you're in surgery." He says, trailing his fingers through my hair as he feeds me the rest of my food.

"If you get a cold that is not my problem." I say.

He groans, burying his face into my neck. "Butβ€”"

"No."
